Firebug's Road to Recovery & Nationals

I am weighing in a little late here, been very busy, but WOW, I am so impressed, and would be even if you were 100% healthy. Given everything else, you are kind of a miracle, you know?

I am helping out with Relay for Life here in Ronan, MT, and will be thinking of you then.

Well, I would love to, but I will most likely be doing this meet in Equipment. It will be a testing ground for World’s in October. Thanks for the vote tho

Thanks. I am just being me. I would love to know what I could do if I had been 100% ;-). And thank you for helping with the Relay for Life! When is it?

Training 22 May – Bench

Bar x 10
115 x 8
135 x 6
145 x 5
150 x 5
155 x 5 for two sets

then the following grips… all at 95 lbs
close - 10, wide - 10, normal - 8, wide - 10, close - 8

I was pretty beat after that. Felt good to be back in the gym after taking almost a week off after the meet.

Malinda, how many meets have you done since you started competing and how many years have you been doing it? On average, how many will you do in a year? I’m always interested in how other people manage it. Some only do a couple a year. One of the M2 ladies has been competing 17 years and does 5(ish) meets a year.

Hey, How many meets? I have lost count, really I have. I have been competing since May 2000, that was my first meet and was the Texas State meet. On average I probably compete in four meets per year, although I had been trying to cut back to three (Nationals, North American’s, and Master’s Worlds). This year it looks like I will be competing in 5 meets (Nationals, State, North American’s, Master’s and Open Worlds – if all goes well). Many people keep telling me I am getting to old to do so many meets, not so sure I believe them.

I did 4 within 6 months and I loved it but found it pretty tiring. I’m keen to do this as long as I can and don’t want to kill myself right out of the blocks.

So you’re going to be in the Czech Republic in September? What day do you lift? My weight class is Sept. 28.

I will most certainly be there! I lift on that Thursday 1 October…either 82.5 kg or 90 kg class, I hope

I look forward to seeing you there…

25 May 2009 – Squats

Knee sleeves - TKO’s

Bar x 8
135 x 8
195 x 5
210 x 5
Belt and sleeves
220 x 5 for 2 sets

5 sets of 10 – 115, three sets close stance, two sets wide stance – next week will be the opposite

GM – 115 x 8, 120 x 8

Weights felt good. 220 was a good number as the fifth one of each set was hard, doable but difficult.

Weekend after next, I think. My boyfriend’s mother keeps track for me, haha. My memory is pretty bad right now–I had a bad reaction to anesthesia in Oct, compounded when my body decided to quit breathing for awhile nine days later due to pulmonary embolism. Gr. I have had a noticeable decline in short term memory…sigh. Anyway, she lives down the street and remembers stuff for me. We are making two quilts to raffle off. We need to get them done by Saturday. And I think relay for life is the next weekend…or the weekend after that? I have no fear, she will tell me when to show up?

Good Luck with it and have FUN!

Thanks Momma, it is the breathing and stamina part that is difficult. I just don’t seem to be able to catch my breath – it is running faster than I am. And I just seem to give out faster than I want. Hopefully it will come back better and faster than it left.

It will come back. Each chemotherapeutic drug and method of delivery has it’s own side effects. And each patient’s experience with treatment is different.

Make sure your blood count is in check, anemia can cause breathlessness and fatigue.

But I wouldn’t worry too much, you are still able to push yourself harder than most people can go. And I think the benefits of doing this will help your immune system recover, maybe even better than before. After all, there is no growth without challenge. But you already know that ;^)

So training the past week or so has been a bit hit or miss…
ok, mostly miss.

9 June 09 Bench

Bar x 10
115 x 7
145 x 6
155 x 5

  1. 4 55 32
  2. 5 14 58 10 09 90
  3. 5 41 09 15 51 79

16 June 09 Cardio

Concept2 Row machine 5 minutes
Elliptical 25 minutes

Hopefully I will make it in to the gym tonight/sunday and then again on Tuesday for some real training

Thanks Momma, this round of chemo was the first time they said my blood counts were low. My white count was borderline but still just high enough to give me chemo. So, here is hoping they make there way back upwards before next week… hate wanting to feel good enough to feel like crap.
