Are you used to eating anything five minutes before training, especially something with 250 calories (including 9 grams of fat)? That could be the simplest answer. When it’s that close to training, I generally prefer liquid calories, if any at all.
I’ll be picking up some Finibars to deal with 8-hour marathon paintball games. When I’m sporadically sprinting, jumping, and diving for eight hours, I’ll take any advantage I can get. And I can’t express how happy I am that some type of peanut butter flavored bar is back.
I took a Finibar about 5 mins before my kickboxing training. I’m not saying I’m an elite athlete but I do train on competition level and it’s a grueling workout. My stomach felt kinda heavy during the workout and it actually didn’t go well.
Was it maybe the combination of Spike Shooter and the bar? Should I only take one and if so which one is the best choice for a heavy workout geared to endurance?
Thanks in advance!
Personally, I don’t like carbonated beverages immediately prior to or during training as they will make me feel bloated as well. I recommend allowing more time between consuming Spike Shooter and training. Twenty minutes works well for me.
The best time to consume FINIBAR depends on your meal schedule and training duration. If you just recently had a meal prior to eating FINIBAR, the combination may have been too much food before training.

I took Spike 30 minutes before training. The bar was consumed at about 3 hours after my last meal.
Apologies if this is too basic a question but are there any special storage requirements for the FINiBARs to keep them as they are?
Are they very sensitive to temperature and sunlight etc and what would you suggest is the best way to store them if you had a few boxes which would last you about 4 - 5 months?

There are no special storage requirements for FINiBAR. Just handle as you would any other packaged food.
While not required, it’s a good idea to freeze FINiBAR to maintain freshness if you’re not going to use them for a couple of months or longer.

Thanks Brian - is keeping it at room temperature ok for storage purposes or should it be kept somewhere cold when using on a reasonably regular basis?

I love these bars! Had my first training session after eating one, and no drop in energy levels during the 3hr long weight training session… and I love the taste.
Just took my first FINIBAR for a test drive on my 8 mile run. These things are awesome!
They taste great and not at all heavy in my stomach. I felt great the entire time, with energy left over when I got home. I’ll be using these for all of my long runs and hill runs.
Just got back from a strenuous mountaineering/climbing trip where I relied on FINIBAR as my main source of food and I didn’t lose any muscle.
Normally, I come back from trips like this and my muscles are very flat and my strength is down, but if anything they now seem fuller and I look more ripped.
I just got mine. I’ll be trying them before my long mma or grappling workouts.
Brian, do you drink more water than normal with this or do you just drink as usual??
Do you have it with just water, or a gatorade type drink or a carb plus protein type drink like Surge…
I’m trying to take advantage of the ‘hyper’ hydration effect of the glycerol and just want to know what you suggest in the way of fluids…types and amounts…or just drink fluids as usual.
Thanks

Just drink as you normally would.
Our athletes probably have a minimum of 8 to 10 ounces of water or Surge Workout Fuel with FINiBAR. Their choice of fluid is based on the workout duration and intensity, as well as environmental factors.
By the way, the super-hydrating effect from FINiBAR is primarily the result of the unique carbohydrates it contains, not glycerol.
Hey I was wondering about powerlifting meets and if these bars would be great for a snack during the meet? I usually have to not eat to make weight and I then have to lift two hours later and I cant handle too much food without it upsetting my stomach so these bars sound great. What do you think too much for just about 20 lifts?
Not because glycogen depletion is such a serious problem in that situation – it’s not – nor is getting carbs into the muscle that important per se, but if you’re like me you’ll feel better from it.
While that might overkill to do every day if the workout situation was such that its abilities to get carbs into the muscle were of no importance, how often does one have a meet? And there’s a reasonable possibility that simply feeling better could result in a slightly but importantly-better performance.
The below is not, so far as I’ve gathered, the intended use. Nor have I personally been doing it for so long as to be thoroughly proven in my personal case.
But it seems so far to work very well and is interesting and may be quite beneficial for some.
Namely, on dieting non-workout days I’ve been starting the day with just a FINiBAR.
Then 2 hours later, a Power Drive with half a tablespoon of coconut oil, BCAA’s, Flameout, and other items I take for health and/or performance such as Beta-7.
This has every time covered me fine for the first 4 hours of the day. Even when dieting I’d have normally consumed at least 600 calories in this time period and quite possibly 800 or more. (E.g., 1 scoop Low-Carb Metabolic Drive, 3 eggs, and 1/2 tbsp coconut oil is about 410 calories.)
I haven’t totaled up the calories of the FINiBAR and those supplements, but it’s way less than that (especially as I’d be taking the Flameout and that part of the total coconut oil intake at some time during the day anyway) yet has been quite satisfactory and has not resulted in increased perceived need for calories later in the day, either.
The reason, I expect, is the lack of any crash from the carb intake of the FINIiBAR, unlike if it were typical carbs.
This is a question for Laurie, but if any one else has experience with my situation or knowledge, don’t hesitate on the input.
Right now I’m using Beta-7, Flameout, and SURGE Recovery to help me with my training which consists of 70 miles of running a week. I’ll soon be bumping this up and expect to be in the 85 miles/week range for most of my college winter break. In addition to just running miles, I’ll do 2 running workouts (hills, repeats on a track, or structured runs) and lift twice a week.
My system is that I don’t eat 2 hours prior to my runs because of my sensitive stomach. Sometimes this leaves me without the adequate energy and nutrition I need directly prior to a run. I also have terrible trouble running in the morning right after waking up. No matter how much I try to get my body to adapt to getting up and going out the door, I always experience a “break down”
From your experience, how will FINiBAR help in these situations?
