Final Fantasy IV Remake for DS

im pretty excited. that was a pretty amazing game cant wait to play the remake

I never really got into the Final Fantasy games, but as a DS owner, I have to say, that looks mighty impressive. I played I&II on the GBA and enjoyed I, but II seemed broken to me.

How was FF III for the DS?

Final fantasy 3 is amazing, its great to see it now without importing it.

I’m trying to finish the FF’s in order for kicks. I and II for the GBA are done. III had a dumb plot and I didn’t care for the chibi graphics, but the other graphics looked gorgeous and it was still fun to play. I’m midway through IV for the GBA when I heard the DS news… but keep in mind the December release date is for Japan only. It’s likely they will bring it to the U.S. in the springtime.

I hear they are adding 75% more stories that they couldn’t fit into the original Super Famicom/Nintendo cart. IV is the best of the bunch I’ve played so far and the fact that the characters aren’t chibi makes the remake even more buyable.

A bit off-topic, but my friend’s FF I and II for the PSP’s graphics made my jaws drop, and it was 2-dimensional!

BF,
You were able to make it through FF II? That battle system seems all out of whack to me.

I’ve heard mixed reviews of FF III for the DS…I’m thinking I’ll give it a go now that the price is (finally) dropping.

I was thinking of getting FF IV for the GBA. I heard that was really good.

God.

Final Fantasy rules

If I’m not mistaken, IV was released as II for the SNES over here.

Goddamn, I loved that game. Cecil and Kain were bad asses. Not so sure if I’m thrilled with the graphics of this - I really liked the original.

I’m sure its gonna be awesome though. Long live Final Fantasy.

Looks fantastic to me. I am happy that they are releasing 20th Anniversary editions of the FF series, but I wished they released 1+2 on the DS not the PSP.

I liked 1+2. I was able to get through 2 and I liked the fact that you had to play another level of the game with the characters that died throughout the story.

FF3 is really good. I do not like the fact that you have to have “friends” (people to send messages to) in order to unlock the best weapons for each job class and the Onion Knight job class.

I loved 4 on the GBA, the dungeons that you can play after you beat the game were fun.

Yeah, made it through both the regular FF II and “Dawn of Souls” (VERY hard at the beginning but when you get over that hump the rest is smooth sailing).

I though the battle system was innovative. If you want your character to be good with axes, then make him/her use axes all the time until he/she goes from “shit” to “suck” and eventually reach “Paul Bunyan”. It forces you to think more when you get a new weapon and are trying to decide how to equip it than just “Ooh, Excalibur makes my ATK go up from 90 to 110!”

I don’t like the system as much when it comes to spells, since most of the time you don’t need to use spells and Ethers are hard to come buy, but when it’s time to battle a boss, most of the spells that would really help you are too weak for you to cast effectively 'cause you haven’t practiced it enough. That would be my only complaint, really.

If you didn’t like the FF I story, don’t get FF III because it is almost the same story, only more detailed and you can change jobs on the fly. It seems that the original FF games had a pattern: odd-numbered were purely battling games and even-numbered were purely storytelling games.

I would wait and see when the DS version of IV will hit the U.S. Might as well make the most of your DS, but IV is my favorite so far and whichever system you decide to play it on, it will rule.

I didn’t mind the story in FF I…in fact the story, to me, wasn’t a huge part of the game. Like you said, it was more about battling.

FF II I guess just frustrated me. I have wanted to play through it, though, just to say that I did. Sounds like if you can get through the beginning, it picks up steam.

I still have my GBA and try and use it when I can. That’s how I got into FF I&II (Dawn of Souls), so I still buy games for it from time to time; even though the DS is my main portable system.

I, IV, VI, VII, and Tactics are the worthy ones, and even then, the first game is just a dungeon crawler and VI has too much emo and silliness in it for a lot of people. Including spin-offs and such, maybe 10% of Final Fantasy is actually worth playing…

Yeah, you feel so worthless when you can’t even beat one lousy soldier in Fynn. I know what you mean, not a great mindset to have when you start a RPG. It gets easier to the point that you don’t even have to “level up” (look for fights for gold and experience) before you move on to a new quest. The last part of the game, the underground passage (I think it’s called) was the only time in that game that I had to level up for a while first.

III requires pretty much no leveling up except for the very last palace. III’s final quest has two dungeons, SIX major bosses, 4 mini-bosses, a shitty cinematic sequence that you can’t skip between dungeons, and no fucking save point in between! >:-O Of the 3 I’ve beaten so far, III is definitely the most satisfying.

FFVII is the only one of the FFs that I would be interested in buying the remake of. I’ve always said that I would buy PS3 just to have that game.

I doubt they will remake that game for a long, long time. I’ve heard that Square Enix doesn’t plan to remake any game that is playable with current consoles. PS3 can play PS1 games, which I’m sure you know.

Right now it looks like FF7 will be made the for the 20th anniversary of ff7. For those who don’t know advent children was on the 10th anniversary.

If you want to play another game of ff7 wait till crisis core arrives on are shore.

Yeah, I’m not a big fan of leveling up…takes up too much time when you could be progressing the story. I guess if you have a lot of time to play the games then it’s not that bad, but when you don’t, it’s tiresome.

Oh, and what’s the deal in FFII where you can select to attack your own party members?

III is sounding more appealing. Thanks for the honest feedback.

So, I have to admit, I’m very inexperienced when it comes to RPGs. Are there any tips out there in terms of what I should do when I start up a game (follow story, look for side quests)? I feel like I’m just wandering aimlessly at times with no real direction.

Attacking your own party memebers in that game is a way to break the game into getting more hp. Ususally its put in so that you can cure confuse(use a blackmage to hit the guy confused).

Final fantasy 2 is to easy to break.
