Been feeling shitty, the whole family is fighting a virus, I’m doing about the best but still definitely not well and very low energy.

Tonight:

Mobility work - resistance band pull-aparts/dislocates/cyclones/face-pulls. Fire hydrants, kicking entry step drill + leg lift.

10 x 3min rounds/30sec rest heavy bag Muay Thai combinations - lots of kicking focus.

Core - ab wheel roll-outs.

Total rest Christmas and Boxing day. Back to it today:

3 min Bas Rutten Thai boxing to warm up. 1 round.
Mobility work and stretching.
5/3/1 trapbar deadlift up to 12 x 125kg
5/3/1 swissbar press up to 5 x 60kg
superset inverted rows with BBB swissbar press @ 40kg

10 exercises, 1 min each, 5 second change over.

Thanks Cavalier. I’m just realising how little time we all have.

Tonight went back to the dependable Bas Rutten workout- 10 x 2 min rounds of the all round fighting CD. I wore my gum shield whilst training and it made the training way harder, I had to take it out after 8 rounds. I intend to keep wearing the gum shield during conditioning training as I’ll have to wear one to compete.

Also went for a 5km walk which included a nice big hill.

Bas Rutten all round workout. 28 minutes non-stop shadow boxing, push ups, ab exercises, neck bridge, mountain climbers, tuck jumps and jumping squats. Argh…

2 hours training mma at Leicester Shootfighters.
Clinch work
Kicking inc. technical sparring.
Back mount escapes.

Great to be back on the mat after the Christmas break. Also had a good discussion with the coach about fighting later this year. Got some good advice, mapped out what training I need to do and discussed some ideas about dropping weight.

Jan 9th

Strength work
5/3/1 swissbar bench up to 10 x 65kg superset with inverted rows to failure
3 x 10 x 40kg Kroc rows.

Timely thread for me. Been doing BB stuff lately, had a bicep tear an am building myself up again at 42.

My gym has as kick-ass MMA section, though. Dominated by Azerbaijani wrestlers, those guys can really kick just about anybodys’s ass. I still really want to join, although it’s prob. a really bad idea for a former TKD/Karate/BB guy with bad knees :slight_smile:

Good wrestlers are seriously tough dudes.

Last night was going to train floor to ceiling ball but the elastic was mullered so scrapped it after three rounds. Circuit instead, something different:

100 punch punchout on heavy bag
Sandbag clean and press x 8
barbell anti-rotation twist X 10
Sandbag row x 8
Sprawl + 4 punch combo x 10
Sandbag get-up x 8
100 punch punchout on heavy bag

Twice through aiming for speed.

14th Jan:

Foam roll - lots on the IT bands.
Shadow boxing warm up + Mobility work.
Dumbbell snatches 5 x 5 up to 32kg
5/3/1 trapbar deadlifts up to 8 x 132kg. Left a little in the tank as I’ve got 2 hours of MMA tomorrow.

Jan 15th

2 hours MMA training; 1 hr clinch and low kicks including technical sparring. 1 hour mount escapes and triangle chokes with some light rolling. Great training tonight really felt some progress.

Lots of snow here at the back end of this week so I’ve taken advantage of it.

Friday 18th. sled dragging 2km with interval sprints 50m x 10

Saturday 19th. sled dragging 3km with interval sprints + 2km hike in snow.

Sunday 20th. 5 hour grappling seminar.

Need to get back to some lifting this week.

5/3/1 press up to 5 x 60kg superset with inverted rows on all sets
3 x 10 x 40kg
5/3/1 deadlift up to 8 x 112kg

I was just getting the required reps due to time and tiredness.

Wednesday 23rd Jan
2 hours grappling at Leicester Shootfighters inc. 5 x 5 min rounds. Got my ass handed to me as this is the advanced class with competitors and fighters, but the coach says that I need to get the rounds of sparring in if I want to fight this year.
