Fiber and flax

I consume a few protein shakes a day that include flaxseed/GLA oil. I was considering adding a fiber supplement to the shake. Would the fiber make the shake less effective by carrying my “good fats” out of my body undigested? Don’t want to lose the benifits of the flaxseed/GLA oil.

I want to know this too.

I’ve often wondered this as well. I’m sure it depends on the type of fiber (soluble, insoluble, etc.), but I don’t know how. What I do know is that I’ve read that consuming fiber with your fat-soluble vitamins can cause those vitamins to be unavailable, so I would assume that the fiber can bind to at least some of the EFAs you’re trying to get – the real problem is how much you would lose. In order to get the most out of the fiber and the EFAs, I try to take my fiber in capsule form (like those Colon Cleansers Chris Shugart has recommended) with my P+C meals and avoid taking extra fiber with my P+F meals.

Why not get some flax seeds? They have fiber and omega 3 oils. Be careful to either grind them fresh (coffee grinder) or buy them some place that keeps them in the fridge.

try adding flax seed meal, you get the benefit of the flax seed oil in the meal and the fiber. tastes better as well.
