I think the weights look good but where you may run into trouble is the weight combined with the 2" axle. Women’s hands are a bit smaller. Looking at the lightweight category, they may have a problem cleaning with a 2" axle at 100lbs and doing a farmers carry at 110 with the same.
Maybe get a couple people to try it out. I could be wrong though.
she didnt seem to have a problem with it

Looks good Greg! Good opening weights for a first contest. The deadlift is a little heavy, considering my max is 225, lol…
Now is this contest open to any female competitor, or is it for novices only?
I’m thinking if the weights were a tad bit lower, you may be able to attract more potential competitors…

Are all of the events timed?

Okay Mr. Smartypants. I can’t help it if she has big ole man hands. The fact that she is strong as hell has nothing to do with it
One more thing…
Is the clean completely off the ground, or from a tire or something? And is it a strict press or is push pressing aloud?
Thanks!

It sounds like the deadlift will be with a trap bar type thing which is higher off the ground than a standard DL with 45’s. When my conventional DL was 225, I could pull 265 with a trap bar. The positioning is a bit different too.
I don’t know how low I’d go with weights. If it’s too low, it’s boring and becomes less about strength than speed.
True, Julie…
I figure I can practice the side bar DL with the farmer’s at Grahams house(strongman chairmen)
My gym doesn’t have a trap bar…I tried laying two barbells parallel on the lowest setting on the rack, and lift em that way, but it didn’t work so well, lol!
Unless I set up some dbs measured up to 16" off the floor? hmmm…
Oh, and I answered my own question about the press!

Saans, and BEG…still thinking of competing???
Anyone else out there? :)
I’m thinking about it. I honestly cant say until I see where I’m at in late March. I’m supposed to do a meet in April now…
So if training goes well, I think it will be April, then start focusing on strongman stuff. If PL training for April doesn’t go well, I’ll be doing August, so no Strongman.
Like I said. Its tempting, but I can’t commit either way yet.
The frame DL we will be using is considerably easier than a standard deadlift. If I had to train this event in the gym I would do 16? rack pulls to get the feel. The frame DL will be easier than rack pulls because you are pulling from the side and the weight is centered over your body, less lower back. I will get actual dimensions and pics the next time I?m out at our training camp.
Greg
BEG- GL in whatever you decide to do! It’d be pretty sweet to meet some fellow T-Nationer’s though!
Greg- I think I asked before, so sorry to be a PITA
But are all of the events going to timed, and have you worked out what those times would be? Thanks!
thought some of you ladies would like this, just saw it posted on marunde-muscle.

Axle - most reps in 60 sec
Farmers - fastest time with a 60 sec time limit
Tires - fastest time with a 90 sec time limit
Frame DL - most reps in 60 sec
Odd object load - fastest time with a 60 sec time limit
This should answer your question.

A Woman’s division has been added to the Oil Region’s Strongest on June 20th in Oil City, PA. The link for the entry form is listed below

yay! Thanks Greg…
Anyone still deciding out there?
I’ve kind of been taking it easy in my training until I got word on my knees…(which was just ‘slight degeneration,’ whatever that means!)
Good news! I’m not broken…just worn down. My physical therapist gave me the thumbs up to keep training as I am!!
Minus the leg extension machine, and no running/sprinting/hopping/skipping
He gave me some stretches to do for now…and next week we will start with the strengthening stuff…
I’m going to start implementing strongman stuff back into my training to continue preparing for the comp. in June!!
Sounds great!!! The frame DL is a 19" pull. So, this should not be a problem for the women. Can’t wait to see you all.
Greg
I just received my first entry form for the Women’s division. There will be a slight change, the axle press will be changed to a Log clean once and Press for reps. 100# for the LW and 120# for the HW Women. I hope to see more women at the contest.
