The other thing I noticed is you start with a bend in your elbows. The arms should just be hooks, they shouldn’t bend.
x2. A lot of people rip there biceps by this
Great lift
Eeesh, I know! Probably most valuable thing I’ve gotten from T-Nation posts “Girl, quit bending your elbows!”
I will work on it I have to think about it really hard to keep myself from doing it…clearly, I didn’t think hard enough on this set.
Thanks for your critique. Appreciated![/quote]
I said this in your other thread, but it’s not just about your elbows. Pull the tension out of the bar and set your whole body to lift. Then lift.
I am really impressed. I sincerely wish you luck in the contest. Please let us know how it goes. If this isn’t too personal how much do you weigh? I ask because I weigh 155. I wish to get more into power lifting and someday compete. However I can’t yet dead lift 300 pounds. Do you know much about the weight classifications and pound lift expectations?
Thanks and I sincerely hope my question does not offend. You may ans off line if you like.

Hey, thanks!
I weigh 160 at the moment. Before my May competition I weighed 158 and I dropped 10lb of water the day before to get into the 148lb weight class. I’m going to attempt to do the same thing this time, but it will be a major challenge.
Every federation is different. If you were entering a drug-tested federation, I’d look into the World Powerlifting Association/American Powerlifting Association for starters. There are “elite” qualifications for some competitions, like the one I’ll be attending in Tampa, FL - the Raw Unity federation – requires a total score number per weight class in order for you to attend.
The first number is the weight class, the second number is the combined total of all three lifts. For example, I qualified because in May I was in the 148lb weight class and my total score was 735.
But you know what – don’t worry about the totals if you’ve never competed! Just compete! It’s so much fun because whether or not you win you’ll learn about your lifts, you’ll probably set some new personal records and the environment is awesome.
Ginger thank you for your answer. I wish I could view these events on ESPN. I used to watch power lifting events there a long time ago. Don’t seem to find them anymore. It is fun to watch sports in which I personally compete.
I wish you well and hope you win. No way I could compete in the one in FL. However there are some amateur ones locally that I might work up the nerve for.
