Feets Don't Fail Me Now

At my fairly young age, I’m learning this works time and time again regarding fashion and facial hair

LOL…I got Nike’s I have only worn once in the closet. When I first got in the military, the reality of having a real pay check for the first time meant buying shoes I never could before.

The problem is I wear a “favorite pair” until I get sick of them or they tear apart.

LOL.

The black pair should be here today.
I’ve got a pair of black KSO’s, black KSO Trek’s, and a grey/red pair of something else KSO.
Okay Rod why so many? Is this just upgrades? Or is there certain training you use them for?
Hahahahahahahaahaha

I ask cause all the people at the gym are the same way, and they are as white as white people can get.

<------------Not a shoe whore.

Just wondering, I have a pair but no way I could run in them, but I know they make some to run in.

I only run on the treadmill in mine. Outdoors…hell no! That’s just asking for injury. My black KSOs are mainly for my boxing/kickboxing training, though.

Yea that is my thought also Rod, while they are great they are just NOT an all purpose training tool. I do love to DL and Squat in them, I have yet to find anything better.

These things are great for all leg training in my opinion. Even with the leg press, my grip is better than with regular shoes. The soles of these stick in place better.

How long was it before you run in them? I don’t even think all of that weight coming down with no cushion is really a good thing. I could see if you were smaller…

You callin me fat??? lol

I started running in them right out of the box. I would start with a short run…say, 15 minutes, then increase from there. I’m pretty used to training completely barefoot, so running on the treadmill with these wasn’t much of a stretch. I am also constantly jumping rope.

LOL. Dude, we probably look the same to most people in this country. I meant overall weight…because you do look like a gorilla.

I think your feet must be made of steel.

I’ll agree with both.

Just an idea here, but is there a removable gel insole you could use with the Vibrams for running?

I have still not gone full-retard with the VFF yet. They look too weird and I’m a vain motherfucker. I also can’t stand not wearing socks and the resultant stank.

I think someone mentioned the Merrell Trail Gloves in this thread before. I second those as being awesome. I wanted to get the NB Minimus but can’t find a single place around me that carries them yet. I’m happy enough with the Merrell’s though.

Can highly recommend Asics Tai Chi -very thin sole and look totally normal

You can’t be vain and wear these?

I mean…you do have real toes, you know?

I get what you mean, but honestly, I get more positive comments than I can count. If they are talking bad about them, they don’t tell me.

I think they’re just different.

I also tend to avoid fads. I wear them because they feel good. That’s it.

I just think they look odd. I can understand the appeal though, especially after wearing the Merrells, which are basically the same thing but without individual toes (same outsole, zero cushion, etc). The grip on them is unreal too.

That would defeat the purpose of them… The whole point is to get your feet to develop that “feel” with the ground.

Now I know I’m late to the party (7 pages in, WTF?) but glad to see Prof. X is onboard with one of the better shoes for lifting & running. I rotate my 2 pairs of KSOs among my various pairs of Nike Frees, especially for DLs, & especially squats/calf work.

They’re not as hardcore for the gym as true purpose built lifting shoes made by say Adidas, etc., but for under $100 CDN a hard deal to beat…

Testament to that is that the one retailer in downtown Toronto is always backordered, it seems.

Once you wear these even Nike Frees will feel like they have too much of a heel elevation (not sure if it’s psychological but I notice this doing DLs)

Some people notice in the gym and ask me about them but that’s cool, it comes with the territory when you’re wearing ninja slippers

Anyone read “Born To Run” by Chris McDougall? Good read & he mentions these as well -

It wouldn’t defeat the purpose of them if it’s an aid to help the transition. Some won’t need it. I was just making a suggestion strictly for running, not for walking or lifting (that’s why I said “removable”).

Doing the latter two activities is going to help you adjust to being essentially barefoot, but as the old saying goes, why run before you can walk?

I’m pretty sure that if that was the case, the guys @ Vibram would have milked that for all it was worth (removable gel insole you need to buy “separately” for additional $) in terms of marketing.

I’m not sure if you own a pair of VFFs but they do come with language in the disclaimer/owner’s manual portion re: training that stresses that you take it easy when wearing these for the first time, gradually transitioning & building up to running in them at first for short distances, sans socks (although you can buy Injinji toe socks for this purpose but for $18 a pair no thanks)

There is even mention of switching out and alternating with your regular running shoes between wearing these for runs so it sort of makes the need for a gel insole moot.

Good line of thought but if you wear them, you’ll see they’re like slippers with toe pockets… almost no room for a insole or liner of any kind, even the toe socks would seem to be a stretch (pretty sure they were meant to be worn without socks for optimal ground feel, kinesthesia & proprioception)

Closest thing I could think of to swap in & MacGyver on the footbed for cushioning would be low profile Air Zoom units ripped out of a Nike basketball shoe or Obusforme, Dr. Scholl’s, etc. but try it & see if it works for you (it might shift while running though, no?)

They just haven’t thought of marketing a gel sole with toes and selling it for a vastly inflated price… yet. They don’t market vibrams specifically to bodybuilders…

It was just an idea. No need to dissect it. Either you try a gel sole or you don’t. It’s a couple of bucks. I’m not going to get offended if you don’t give it a whirl. All that extrapolating and you’ve arrived back at Scholl’s, which is what I was suggesting in the first place.
