Dear Meat,

I’m doing the 5/3/1 and I feel confident that my squat and deadlift days okay.

Deadlift, assistance is RDL and shrugs. Would it be too much if I do 3 sets of light deficits instead of the shrugs? I’ve never had a problem locking out, if I can move the bar I will get it.

On bench and military press days I have done two upper back movements and another movement to directly support the bench and then military. Upper back and shoulders have always been my weak points.

Is it too much?
i’ve never gotten anything out of shrugs other than maybe some grip work. you could definitely do deficits. i actually do them as a staple in my training. i do them for speed work, against bands and i also do them as an ME at times. probably one of the best deadlift variations out there. shrugs aren’t even in the same ball park.

it’s not too much as long as you aren’t going to heavy on the accessory stuff. keep the reps high. the purpose of the accessory stuff is to build mass so you can get stronger on the lifts that are important. i like to do my accessory stuff as one big circuit. i actually feel better after that stuff then when i started. getting all that blood to the area speed recovery from the ME work. 3 sets of 10-20 reps is what i usually shoot for.

What ever happened to giving the guy the belt? I may have missed the outcome. Have a great week and thanks for all the info.
i just walked up to him one day and handed it to him. i said-“i think you could use this” and left it at that. He just took my hand and gave me a long stare. he said all he had to say with that stare. I see him all the time and he carries it around like it’s his pride and joy. I’m hoping that when i die, shit like that outweighs all the other crap:)… and if not, i’ll just get a front row seat in hell.

Finally got my hands on the Inzer belt I bought (it was delivered Friday, but I couldn’t actually open it until this morning). Damn, this thing’s quality! Got it assembled and I’m very impressed. Can’t wait to use it!
That’s great hoss. Got a lot of shit in my wake too bro. You give back everyday on this thread. My favorite quote to you:
My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is Heaven, my road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions are few, my guide is reliable, my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted, or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate… at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in a maze of mediocrity. I won’t give up, shut up, let up, or slow up."~ Robert Moorehead

Thank you Mr Meat. I will do the deficits, but light, and make sure I don’t overdo the assistance.

Hey Mr. Drummond

I noticed in your bench videos that your feet aren’t flat on the ground. I thought you can get more leg drive if the heels are flat . I was just wondering why your feet position is like that and if it’s more beneficial than having heels on the ground.

Thanks for your time

it’s not more beneficial to have the heels down. i get up on my toes and force my feet back as far as i can. as i lift off the bar, i push down on my heals but since my feet are so far back they aren’t going to come down. this keeps my ass planted on the bench and keeps me tight and back arched.

it really comes down to inidividual preference. i have short legs and get more leg drive up on my toes. someone with long legs could go flat footed and still get good leg drive.

Thanks that’s very helpful

When’s your next meet? Do you know what your openers would be and what weights are you aiming for?

The SPF Worlds in early October. at this moment my openers will probably be 650/500/650 raw open division 275 weight class

Wow that’s a lot of weight. I wish you best of luck. Do you think you can total 2000 within the next couple years?

Mr Drummond

Do you have any advise for me on when to compete. Do you think it’s better to wait a few years when I’m stronger ( I have a 210ish bench, 375 deadlift, and a 300ish squat), or do you think it’s better to get experience first.

it should be all about you. when i compete i don’t care who’s there, what the records are or what others are lifting. i go to do my best. that is how it should be.

go and compete NOW!! if you wait until you are “strong enough”, you will end up like 99% of the people on this site. don’t be a talker… be a doer.

one step at a time. i want a 1940 total. that would give me an elite EQUIPPED total. but i’m going to do it RAW. that would be some shit right there. but i like 2000. that’s a nice round number:)

Many questions but none about nutrition,

What your typical diet looks like ? Do you have any tips that you personally push forward for the kids (like me) trying to get bigger, stronger ?

Also, gosh your 495x2 on bench was awesome. You don’t know how hard was it for me too pull it !

i’m sitting at the top of my weight class right now, so my diet is much different from someone looking to gain weight. the most important thing to me is my protein intake. i take in at least 2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight. i get most of it from protein shakes. i take in four a day. each one is at least 100 grams of protein. the rest of my diet is dairy, lean meats, fruits and some veggies… definitely not enough of those. i try to not eat a ton of crap but do allow some. it’s really not brain surgery. just eat a lot of really good foods and get a ton of protein. be sure to spread it out over the day.

thanks hoss!!! keep moving forward.

Meat,

I have tried to read most of the posts here, but forgive me if any of this is redundant. I am not new to lifting weights, but I am fairly new to trying to do it the right way. I just got my inzer lever belt and wrist wraps in the mail. Any tips on the use of the belt and wraps? How tight should the belt be? Do I use it on all the major lifts? Even Bench? How high above my hips should it ride? Any general tips on the use of wrist wraps? I am in a constant battle with tendinitis in my wrists , forearms, and elbows, so I hope the wraps help. I have never used any type of equipment before.

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate all your help and this thread in general.

Jack

That’d be really impressive. How long have you been competing for and how long did it take you to get an elite total raw.

I really like that and you’re right. That would be some kinda shit right there.

Hey Meat, just wanted to stop in and ask you if my form on deadlift is alright…

Im thinking im leaning to far forward on all my reps.
