LOL good thread, VTBalla!
Some people have no respect for experience. I personally shut the hell up and listen when Dan John talks.

It’s dismissing the opinion of someone with decades of training and competing experience; along with professional experience coaching hundreds of athletes.
The guy making this comment is a rank beginner with no knowledge to speak of (based on comments like my jeans no longer fit due to BW pistol squats).
IMO that is extremely arrogant.
You find this ‘extremely arrogant’? What if they had the audacity to call Dan a “pussy dumbfuck”? Would you faint?
Come on.

Were there other comments? Because, if not then there’s really nothing ‘out of line’ being said here.
I don’t think VT is calling them out so much as just asking them to back up what they said.
And pink isn’t pink, it’s just the lack of green.

Yes I do, and it is.
Why are you so mad about a light hearted call out thread in the GAL forum?
It’s not like we are going to hunt them down and club them to death.

Just the opposite, I’m wondering why you all are so mad over such an inconsequential thing.

Who in the hell is mad here? If you can’t discern “anger” from “light hearted ribbing” you might want to consider the possibility that you are not socially well-adjusted.

Because they are by an individual who has made some truly idiotic posts and multiple stupid threads in the BB forum. Seriously, go and read his posts he is a completely clueless moron.
To then make throw away lazy comments to someone with more knowledge in his ass hairs than this guy has in his entire being means he deserves to be called out and made fun of.
The end.
I got the impression that they were saying the genetically gifted could achieve this without training, but not that they were necessarily part of this genetically gifted group. I hope this call-out was drafted because of their overall posting history and not solely because of those comments (I’m not familiar with either poster).
I agree with their premise (about genetically gifted folks, I myself am nowhere near those levels), but it was a strawman for Dan’s argument. Dan was only claiming that makes you strong enough for your sport if your sport isn’t a strength sport.
I also miss the old article discussions rather than the livespills. Wish they’d go back to that.
To start with, I thought it was a good article and this whole debate is certainly pretty far from the take home point of it. I do regret contributing to the start of it.
VTballa, yes sadly my DL has stayed pretty much linear with my weight… I’ve had my head pretty far up my ass for most of the time I’ve been training and my DL and bench especially have only been taking off recently. I weigh 160 in the evening (curious how you estimated that so accurately?) and my DL PR is 340. (though I’ve finally gotten the mobility to sumo DL pain free so we’ll see what happens there…)
A few caveats before I post a video.
First, I train in my backyard with non-olympic weights (cause I’m a cheap-ass) so you’re gonna have to take my word for it on the weight. Unless someone wants to pay for a day pass at some gym for me… ![]()
Second, I don’t have any kind of farmer’s walk implements, so I’m not sure I’ll be able to put something together to do that with. We’ll see.
Third, if it doesn’t invalidate it I’d like to split this up over more than one day cause I’d rather not screw up my schedule too much. Plus I need time to try and put together some kind of farmers walk set up.
Fourth, Is it OK if I sumo DL? I was planning on doing that today.
And no I don’t think most people could hit those numbers right out of the gate. But alternate was talking about “moderately genetically gifted men,” not average normal men. Personally, aside from having a fairly thick frame and really short femurs, I’m not really all that gifted. But you know what they say about hard work and genetics
I can’t speak for alternate’s genetics. (though I can say that by and large he’s a freakin goof.)
I’ll have the first video up by tomorrow at least.
good article, but I think most moderately genetically gifted men would be able to do each exercise you mentioned to the ‘Game Changing’ degree without any previous training at all!!
Alternate was called out because he made the above statement to a guy that has been coaching athletes for decades. It is easy to infer from this comment that the genetically average should be able to easily accomplish these feats with training if “most moderately genetically gifted men” can do it without.
Maybe that wasn’t alternate’s intent, but that is how it came off.

Yes, that’s what I meant. I don’t know about alternate
Here’s where the issue is: Dan John is a former competitive athlete and has been coaching for decades. Alternate is a guy that starts really ignorant threads asking about pistol squats and “neglecting mirror muscles” in the bodybuilding forum.
Basically, alternate has no proven credentials to question the standards that Dan John posted. I think it becomes an issue of, “if you think it’s so easy, then prove it.”
3 out of 5 after 5 years (including the I don’t know what hell I’m doing phase). 4 out of 5 if you talk about ever. I can’t get 18 pulls ups anymore, only 13 on a good day now.

I respect the fact that you showed up here…I only created this thread out of boredom (for the most part) and while I do think it is absolutely ridiculous to claim that even genetically gifted guys can hit this UNTRAINED, I will settle for a guy doing this for a couple years displaying it. I may even get in on this myself.
Dont underestimate the difficult of a farmers walk.
Edit: Forgot about the pullup portion…no way in hell I could do 15, I dont think…I am good for 10 or so, 12 on a good day I reckon…this doesnt seem to change even if I drop bodyweight…4/5 ain’t bad I guess

How far do you have to carry the farmers walks?

I think he said about 40 meters or so.

Dan John mentioned 40 yards as a good benchmark
