Mufasa, your “unknown author” is Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882). He was a public speaker, poet, and essayist. He led a movement called “Transcendentalism”. He was way cool for his time.

I have two favorites. One is attributed to several people, but usually Mark Twain. It goes “Age is a thing of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it don’t matter.” The other is by George Eliot. “It’s never too late to be what you might have been.”

Ender: THANKS!!! (Now I’m pretty embarrassed!) I will often see a quote somewhere, copy it and place it in a file of quotes. I am SURE that this was not out of a book on or about Emerson, and for some reason, as I look back on the original copy, it says “unknown author”. (Wow…did someone really blow that one!) Again, thanks!

“Fear me, for I have the power to destroy you.”

“That which we do in life, echoes in eternity.”

Although others have said it I’m sure, this Gunny I knew, when told something sucks, would say “It’s not as bad as a sucking chest wound”.

“If you always put limits on yourself and the things you can do, physical or anything, you might as well be dead. It will spread into your work, your morality, your entire being. There are no limits, only plateaus. But then you must not stay there. You must go beyond them. If it kills you, it kills you.”–Bruce Lee

All your life you are told the things you cannot do. All your life they will say you’re not good enough or strong enough or talented enough.
They’ll say you’re the wrong height or the wrong weight or the wrong type to play this or be this or achieve this.
THEY WILL TELL YOU NO, a thousand times no until all the no’s become meaningless. All your life they will tell you no, quite firmly and very quickly.
They will tell you no.

AND YOU WILL TELL THEM YES
