Favorite Punching/Kicking Bag?

Ah, yea i do kyokushin so i don’t practice with gloves.
Thanks alot guys.
How helpful you are.

my favorite striking dummy is kind of weird.

I took 4 4x4 wooden planks driven them into the ground about 18 inches and wraped them together with old carpet and duct tape.
next fav was one of the standing torso head ones not sure what they are called but you fill the base with water and its a little rubber guy that you slap around
they are about 2-300 dollars.

Shit, forgot something else!
How do i hang it. I can’t afford those stands. Do they have a giant screw you put directly into the cieling or do i have to find a support beam, etc?

support beam

hanging it is the hardest part and often more expensive than the bag itself

go to just about any sports store; they will sell a heavy bag hanger for about 10 buks. Its just a piece of flat steel with a “D” ring. You will need to get better lag screws that come with it. Drill pilot holes and make sure your beam is stong enough.

By the way, hanging it this way will probably cause noise through out your house when you hit.

You could also make something yourself; it isn’t hard once you think about it.

Option 2, if your house has a steel “I” beam, you can hang it from that with chain.

Option 3: build a wood rack. Blueprints are everywhere on the internet. Make sure you build it like a tank; use lag bolts and 4X4s: you want it real sturdy. And put sand bags on the bottom to help keep it down.

Option 4: Find a tree. DO NOT leave your bag hanging overnight or in the rain.

I’ve always loved the sand bag. I think it feels more real. Also when i used to train tong long we had a sand bag against a brick wall, i think i spent the most time on that than on any other. Taught me how to punch straight.

I know you guys are going to think tong long is stupid and it has many flaws. But it is a truly beautiful style, very focused on balance in mind/body.

Praying Mantis? It has interesting footwork and trapping attributes. I like the idea of using the mantis strike (no idea of the proper name) to hit nerve cluster and points.

With some exceptions, no art has no value; you just have to know where to apply that value.

I was crap at tong long but i met an old guy who did my grading from china who had amazing skills and instinct

Ringside has a heavy bag (100 pounds) and a simple stand for 99 dollars US.
Now i ordered them but i can still cancel.
It’s impossible for me to hook a bag on a beam here, my only options are to self build (which im not too sure on) or buy.

It’s gonna be so expensive but i can’t seem to find anything here. If anyone has any canadian websites to order stands or 100 pounds leather punching bags, it would be GREATLY appreciated.

You could build a frame in the house and mount the frame to the ceiling; you can shake a house apart if you are not careful.

Way to read the thread.
