Favorite Exercise Poll

I’d have to say my favorite exercise would be front squats. I’ll be different and add standing calf raises and barbell rows to the list.

I can tell you what my least favorite exercise is though: barbell bench press. I don’t seem to have any problems with dumbell benching, but I’ve never been able to get into regular barbell benching.

We all thought that the preacher curl was covered when you stated that the chin up was your favorite, after all isn’t the chin up just a glorified preacher curl?

Rick, how much does that bad boy weigh?

Hey Zeb re: preacher curls. On his site, Dan John says that Al Oerter’s favorite exercise was the power curl. Okay, not the same as a preacher curl, but interesting choice nonetheless. I’ve never tried these. Has anyone tried them and like them?

My favorite exercise is squat rack curls, especially when there’s people waiting to use the squat rack for squats! Whoa… sorry guys I thought I was on the Muscle and Fitness forum!

In all seriousness, power cleans I don’t know why but I just love’em.

Goodmornings, then chins.

Mike,
An empty 15.5 gallon keg (aluminum) weights somewhere around 20-30 lbs, and water weights about 8.35 lbs/gallon (3/4 full that would put it about 97 lbs of water weight), so the total weight is somewhere between 120-130 lbs. That sounds light, but cleaning and pressing it while the water is sloshing around is a bitch.

The aluminum keg is a very versatile piece of equipment (and cheap, I asked a buddy who’s friend manages a restaurant to see how much I could buy one for and he wound up getting one for me free of charge). Other exercises I do with it are zercher squats, bear hug walks and snatches. If I didn’t have a sled I could use the keg.

I plan on adding pea stones gradually to make the weight even more challenging.

ZEB,
I must confess that pull-up variations are included on my 5 must do movements list.

Well, I really like Squats, Leg extentions, french curls, pressdowns, and bench lockouts… very very heavy bench lockouts.

Sumo Deads

Rick:

Don’t try to suck up now!

No, seriously, glad to hear that. The Pull-up is the upper body Squat! I know all good T-Men know this.

Romanian Deadlifts. It just seems like I feel these working more than any other lift. Oh, and my wife likes the results.

Hip adduction machine forever!!

Well hell, I guess I gotta be the first and only soul to say Barbell Bench. I could not imagine training without heavy deads, squats, pullups and overhead presses, but just for sheer pleasure and enjoyment, it’s gotta be the bench.
