Pretty much anything by Garth Ennis. Hellblazer kinda tapered off a bit, but Preacher and Hitman are gold.
Currently reading The Boys. More Garth Ennis goodness.
i loved the batman series where gotham turned into some kind of warzone (sorta post apocalyptic) can’t remember the title. any aliens/predator/AVP comics. and any comics with venom or wolverine cause they’re just badass.
It really depends on what you like in particular… I think the general consensus (this is off the top of my head) is that the following are pretty good:
Kingdom Come
Grant Morrison’s JLA v3 (first 40 or so issues)
Marvel stuff… uh…
Nothing particularly good off the top of my head.
Chew by Image comics is pretty good too, almost done with it’s second story arc. But again, it really depends on what you like. Comics are like a microcosm of literature except with an majority of stories being about super heroes, so if you like certain things you’ll probably be able to find stuff.
LTKO: I think you’re talking about Batman: No Man’s Land.
Recent:
Immortal Iron Fist (cancelled, of course. Had the BEST Iron Fist stories ever, as well as the birth of the most realistic interactions between Iron Fist and Luke Cage]
No Hero / Black Summer - Heroes being too inhuman, too human. There’s Supergod, heroes being post- or non-human, but I couldn’t get into it.
Empowered is good, but doesn’t make my monthly grab. Just not my flavor, though it does play against many, many genre tropes, which I love.
Bomb Queen
Empowered
Blackest Night
Pilgrim
The Boys
Wanted (as opposed to the crappy movie that was put out)
Kick Ass
Fables
Criminal series
Walking Dead (but it’s starting to run out of steam, in my opinion)
The Dark Knight Returns
The Killing Joke
Batman: The Long Halloween
Batman: Hush
The Knightfall series (Banes 1st appearance)
Old Man Logan
Wolverine (the miniseries in Japan)
Xmen: Age of Apocalypse
V for Vendetta
Watchmen
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Old Man Logan was great artwork with a decent story but didn’t have enough literary elements in my opinion. For a story so violent, clearly intended for adults, I wish it had more psychological elements in it.
The Killing Joke was great
Kevinm, you’ve given up on Marvel while wearing a Thor avatar
Batman Year One is pretty good. I’ve read so much over the last couple years I can’t really remember. Old Man Logan really was fun to read.
Ultimates 2 was great. Marvel’s Trojan War was decent, better than I thought it would be.
The Captain America return was so botched it’s not even funny. Steve Rodgers as a property deserves so much better. It was promising, then it completely sucked.
Totally fucking forgot Secret Six. Drop whatever the shit it is you’re doing and go grab a trade, the current issue, a few pages from some kid’s throwaway copy, something.
I’d say it’s easily one of the top 10 books on the market, and possibly ever.
Secret Six has been really good. Hands down my favorite right now.
I just finished reading Superman: Red Son, this was the Elseworld comic where Superman landed in Communist Russia instead of the US. It was a very good read and showed me how freaky strong Superman really is. Also Russian Batman was a badass.
Fables is good stuff, funny to see storybook characters doing the real life shit that they do
The Superman/Batman series is well written and really funny to see the optimist(Superman) and the pessimist(Batman) take on a situation. Also the story arch where Batman was given Superman’s powers was really good. A superpowered Batman is nothing to fuck with.
Also a good Graphic Novel is: The Pride of Baghdad, I thought it was a excellent read.
