Favorite Comics

Well as long as I’ve been a member and trolling before that I haven’t seen a general favorite comicbook thread.

I’m not a long time reader, got into them when I was overseas and introduced to digital comics as a way of passing time over there.

I just finished reading All-Star Batman & Robin vol. 1, thought it was terrific. Thats the type of Batman I like.

Some of my favorites:
From Marvel
World War Hulk (I didn’t read all the before stuff)
Thor around the 600 issue… eventually lost track and stopped

From DC:
Batman Arkham Asylum
Batman Year 1
Batman The Man Who Laughs
Joker
JLA: New World Order

From Darkhorse:
Empowered Vol. 1-5 (love this one)
The Umbrella Academy Apocalypse Suite

Next up will be Identity Crisis from DC

Wish I had an iPad - I’d use it pretty much exclusively to read comic books on and play chess on. And I’d be happy!

Is there a sequel to Umbrella Academy? The first arc was good, but I feel it was left open for a sequel/mwaor, but never got around to making it.

Hellblazer and Preacher are win. Double-gobbletygook, omgwtfbmwbbq win. On steroids. With a ten foot penis that injects you with heroin.

There’s 2 volumes to Umbrella Academy - Apocalypse Suite and Dallas in that order

p.s. Since Empowered is so great and this thread needs pictures here’s a page out of Empowered. By far the most entertaining comic I’ve read.

Taken from Empowered vol. 4 page 29

green lantern, although i preferred kyle rayner over hal jordan. wish they would bring him back

Pretty much anything by Garth Ennis. Hellblazer kinda tapered off a bit, but Preacher and Hitman are gold.
Currently reading The Boys. More Garth Ennis goodness.

i loved the batman series where gotham turned into some kind of warzone (sorta post apocalyptic) can’t remember the title. any aliens/predator/AVP comics. and any comics with venom or wolverine cause they’re just badass.

I’ve been enjoying Jack of Fables lately, pretty bizare shit

It really depends on what you like in particular… I think the general consensus (this is off the top of my head) is that the following are pretty good:

Kingdom Come
Grant Morrison’s JLA v3 (first 40 or so issues)

Marvel stuff… uh…
Nothing particularly good off the top of my head.

Chew by Image comics is pretty good too, almost done with it’s second story arc. But again, it really depends on what you like. Comics are like a microcosm of literature except with an majority of stories being about super heroes, so if you like certain things you’ll probably be able to find stuff.

LTKO: I think you’re talking about Batman: No Man’s Land.

Current:

Thor
Hulk/Incredible Hulk

Green Lantern/Corps
Blackest Night

Irredeemable
Incorruptible

Recent:
Immortal Iron Fist (cancelled, of course. Had the BEST Iron Fist stories ever, as well as the birth of the most realistic interactions between Iron Fist and Luke Cage]

No Hero / Black Summer - Heroes being too inhuman, too human. There’s Supergod, heroes being post- or non-human, but I couldn’t get into it.

Empowered is good, but doesn’t make my monthly grab. Just not my flavor, though it does play against many, many genre tropes, which I love.

Blackest Night was pretty cool it had a nice dum dum dum ending for certain regulars of the DCU

The Return Of Steve Rogers wasn’t bad until the end

JSA and JSA ALL Strs are why I love comic books

I’ve pretty much given up on Marvel and anything X related

Batman: No Man’s Land. That was good stuff.

Bomb Queen
Empowered
Blackest Night
Pilgrim
The Boys
Wanted (as opposed to the crappy movie that was put out)
Kick Ass
Fables
Criminal series
Walking Dead (but it’s starting to run out of steam, in my opinion)

The Dark Knight Returns
The Killing Joke
Batman: The Long Halloween
Batman: Hush
The Knightfall series (Banes 1st appearance)
Old Man Logan
Wolverine (the miniseries in Japan)
Xmen: Age of Apocalypse
V for Vendetta
Watchmen
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

Old Man Logan was great artwork with a decent story but didn’t have enough literary elements in my opinion. For a story so violent, clearly intended for adults, I wish it had more psychological elements in it.

The Killing Joke was great

Kevinm, you’ve given up on Marvel while wearing a Thor avatar

Batman Year One is pretty good. I’ve read so much over the last couple years I can’t really remember. Old Man Logan really was fun to read.

Ultimates 2 was great. Marvel’s Trojan War was decent, better than I thought it would be.

The Captain America return was so botched it’s not even funny. Steve Rodgers as a property deserves so much better. It was promising, then it completely sucked.

Totally fucking forgot Secret Six. Drop whatever the shit it is you’re doing and go grab a trade, the current issue, a few pages from some kid’s throwaway copy, something.

I’d say it’s easily one of the top 10 books on the market, and possibly ever.

Secret Six has been really good. Hands down my favorite right now.

I just finished reading Superman: Red Son, this was the Elseworld comic where Superman landed in Communist Russia instead of the US. It was a very good read and showed me how freaky strong Superman really is. Also Russian Batman was a badass.

Fables is good stuff, funny to see storybook characters doing the real life shit that they do

The Superman/Batman series is well written and really funny to see the optimist(Superman) and the pessimist(Batman) take on a situation. Also the story arch where Batman was given Superman’s powers was really good. A superpowered Batman is nothing to fuck with.

Also a good Graphic Novel is: The Pride of Baghdad, I thought it was a excellent read.

Secret Six…why does this sound familiar…Sinister Six maybe?

Fuck DC.

Old man logan was pretty cool indeed.Anything by Garth ennis rocks, gotta say punisher max installment surpassed anything ive had the pleasure to read.
