kpsnap- ah 20 reps. Thats just a bit of variety. Plus squats are hard and when I do say 5 reps, getting the 6th takes me another 20% of the work Ive already done. Which is hard.
but doing 19 then doing a 20th only takes another 5% of the work done. So its easier.
This is on the basis that I havent passed out from the 19 previous reps.
When it stops being fun I’ll change to some other rep range, or so front squats
Bulldog- very little hair to go grey these days, although the beard comes in a bit speckled. But no doubt the forum is open to baldies too.
Hel320 very good to see a man wear a kilt- what tartan is it?
I got my kilt a number of years back, when there where a lot of weddings that year. It gets worn at all big social events. Ive got the right to wear about 4 tartans because of various parts of the family. Although to be honest the clan tartan business was all made up in Victorian times. The real clansmen didnt wear kilts which stopped at the waist and the colours were whatever vegetable dye was local to their part of the country.
Cavalier, I got a similar request for info like that the other day, except it was from Nigeria. Youre not from Nigeria are you?
Pete/Soldog- Depends on the mood of course. But sticking with the obvious answer, I’m partial to a Highland Park, Laphroig, Talisker and for a gentler tipple, a Glenlivet
yes yes yes, a Scotsman who owns a kilt and drinks whisky. And I eat haggis on a regular basis too. Robert Burns is rubbish though.
Pete, re beverages, I had gone through a phase recently of drinking White Russians just because of the film. Difficult to get a hold of Kahlua here though, its the lonely bottle covered in dust that sits at the back of the off-licence shelf.
stopped drinking beer a couple of years ago
Wine is great though, and I use the resveratrol as an excuse which sounds plausible
Hel, I went to the Bonfest last year. 30th anniversary event with tribute bands and stuff. Kirriemuir is a small town about an hour from my house. The avatar is a picture I took of the commemorative stone that sits in the town centre.
The Young Brothers are also Scots of course but I’m not sure I would venture through to Glasgow to see any memorabilia of their lives. Not after dark anyway.
I think some people, KP, Bulldog and Harry are getting a bit carried away with the events unfolding in Tunisia, Egypt and now Libya.
Outspoken criticism of the “Regime” (5/3/1) will not be tolerated and will inevitably result in a backlash from Colonel Wendler and his avid supporters, people who speak out publicly tend to disappear. You are all far braver than I, willing to lay down your lives in the name of democracy.
I too dream of the day when a citizen of our great T-Nation has the right to choose his own routine without fear of intimidation or reprisal, but sadly I don’t think it will happen in my lifetime.
So I shall continue my fight in the underground resistance.

We’re watching you, you free thinking hippy.
Now get back to polishing the statue of the all mighty Wendler.

I too will not bow to this regime. I shall fight for my right to pick whatever programming, and at times even have no programming, as I see fit to get B/F/S.

Couldn’t resist…It seems strangely appropriate
Just so you know “baldies” are welcomed . Apparently long haired hippy types aren’t.

And don’t forget Wisconsin. Yes, believe it or not, it’s actually spread to the States by now.
By the way, I’m, umm, not from Nigeria. Let’s try this: I’m a businessman from Argentina with an urgent business proposal…

Those are the US Air Force colors. It’s a sportskilt. I compete in the Highland games and not being of Scottish extraction (German mom, Cajun dad) I went with this.

Trying to determine my appropriate kilt to purchase, have about 5 different clans I descend from between mom and dad’s sides, and yes, I am contemplating Highland Games. Realized I have a bunch of sometime training partners who compete and actually train starting in April about 10 minutes from my house.
just fyi, the big speech Mel gave “you can take our lives but you’ll never take our freedom” was based on the Declaration of Arbroath “as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom – for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself”
and some historians say that the US Declaration of Independance was based on that. Mind you, a third of those who signed the US DOI were Scots or of Scots extaction. Its a small world.

the more people who wear kilts, the better, as far as I’m concerned, its a cool look, (for undeniable proof of that I cite Samuel L Jackson)

och thats ok then, I thought for a minute that one of my very distant relatives had died and had left me millions of dollars in their will, and you were trying to make sure I got the money to my account safely.
If youre from Argentina, could you let our national Rugby team borrow your front row forwards please. We are willing to pay handsomely
went to the gym on Monday and posted my lifts on this log. Went to the gym today and was guilted mymyself into doing at least 1 more or to add a tiny bit of weight to the bar. Couldnt bear writing anything less on todays log.
However, managed said rep and/or paltry bit of extra iron.
I can see this is going to become unsustainable very soon.
If my log says that I am still improving in 6 months time, I’m lying.
today
Hang Power Clean
132x3
154x3
176x3
198x3 (one extra rep)
Military Press
bar x10
77x5
99x5
121x5 (one extra rep)
Back Squat
165x20 (paltry extra bit of iron)
Dumbell Floor Pullovers
60x 11 (one extra rep PLUS a paltry bit of iron)

nothing to do with weight training though, sorry

I just wanted to clear this up real quick. The Brave heart clip was more of a reference to what is known as the 5/3/1 cult. Which is done in good humor. Plus I know that Farmer being English and you being a Scott. I could not resist being a smart ass. Another case of me trying to be humorous ,failing badly.
One another note. Regarding your log. Remember the purpose isn’t to impress any one on the over 35. You ll find that we all champion each other in here from the weakest to the strongest. It doesn’t matter if you add 5 lbs or 50 lbs in six month. Just the fact that you are making the effort is enough.

Strangely enough you can keep making progress like that. I’m not saying lbs will always go up but you can always do one more rep, or another set, or an extra something and it’ll start to add up.

Or, do what I do and keep switching exercises and claim new PRs.
