That is true, I have thought it would be nice if there was a fast food type of chain that offered sandwiches or burgers on whole wheat bread with lean cuts of meat and vegetables, but I guess there isn’t a market for that.

There’s definitely a market, but the problem is you’d be competing with peoples’ perception that Subway is “healthy fast food.” It’s clearly an improvement on McDonald’s and Burger King, which generally is enough for most people. On top of that, you begin competing with some of grocers as well, since most now sport delis, salad bars, and grilles inside where you can get a clean meal in relatively short amount of time(~5 minutes).
To be honest though, if the big chains got taxed, they might actually start to do things like that on their own as a way to keep business high. Think of how many people think eating a bad piece of food with a good one is “balance.” Start selling fresh apples as part of your value meals and people keep buying anyways.
“Ya I had a Big Mac, but I ate my apple too so its ok.”

Good thing they demand respect and not erections, I guess.
Fat is definitely IN, and its here to stay. BBW gets more popular every year, and girls are looking for more and more “Big Girl” stores (lane bryant, ashley somebody). I think its an overshoot of the previous era’s when people got so skinny they look like skin and bones. Slowly people kept saying you need more meat on your bones, then America started requireing bigger portions. Until finally we got so big we became a fat-fobic society.
With fatphobia in place the ones that can’t lose fat as fast needed to make themselves still feel secure so they say hey look I can still be cool and fat. Now we are just an overall heavier society.

As usual, “they” (in this case, the “fat”) are the problem.[/quote]
Or try replacing in with “insurance frauds” or “people that slack off on the job” or anything else that involves a choice, as opposed to a chance of birth, if you’d like to discuss something that isn’t a strawman.

Thank you for illustrating my point with a fresh example. Now we are to assume, of course, that overweight or “fat” people if you prefer, are lazy, no good, social lepers etc etc, are on the same level as “insurance frauds”, “people that slack off” etc.
And that doesnt sound oh a wee bit bigoted. Perhaps the fat among us are so fun to single out because they are so obvious, unlike other weaknesses that are by choice, that everyone in this thread has at least one of.
Or, to borrow from the proverb: let he who has not failed cast the first stone.

Or, from a different angle, are you suggesting that racism, gender-ism or the like are wrong because the individuals had no choice to be, for example, black or female or simply because racism etc is unethical and immoral. Hard to tell from your response…

Where did someone say it was “fun” to point out fat people? For the most part what I see discussed here are opinions on the level of tolerance we have for them as opposed to other harmful lifestyle choices, and their repercussions on society, mixed with some cause/effect debate.
You are correct, nobody is perfect. But my imperfections having a profound effect on society is not an easily quantifiable claim.
Isn’t the reason they are “unethical and immoral” due to the fact that the people had no choice? You are not posing mutually exclusive ideas, the answer can be both.

You must have an obese girlfriend.
Seriously though…if by people with weaknesses you mean murderers, rapists, pedophiles, etc., do you think everyone applauds these people? What kind of weaknesses are you talking about that would affect someone’s immediate health? Hey, let’s make fun of Timmy because he masturbates.
People single out fat people because most of them choose to be fat even though they know it impacts their health. Do people congratulate each other for committing suicide?

I am by far not against being fat either by choice or by weakness. But it seems in America the fat are not honest with themselves, and societies focus on fat makes it even worse.
If a person say Dave tate in his eating prime declares I want to eat all I can possibly eat, fine. If someone says I tried and they cut portion sizes but did not lose weight, cool.
But this bullshit about it’s in my genes to be fat is what annoys the hell out of me.
Or you dream in some dark corner about losing weight but in the public eye push “Hey!! Being fat is sexy too”, then your a hypocrite. I might not have the moral right to throw the first stone but I can throw all the ones after.
I’m not against overweight people who work a fulltime job, take care of a family, and have other obligations. I am however against people who cost more tax money then they give to the government to begin with becasue they are so fat. It’s the same thing as a casual smoker and a person who smokes like 2 packs a day. One is acceptable the other isn’t and that’s the end of it.
And no obeise woman will ever have the right to be sexually accepeted by me. The people who do the NAANFA thing or whatever need to grow the hell up and learn they aren’t all special like they think they are. One they get off of the calorie soda and mcdonalds induced trip they will finally understand how pathetic creatures they are.
And no whale of a person will ever be “fit” as they claim. They will still have worse health. THey want fat people to be fitness models, this is blasphemy. I read a guide for fat people getting on airplanes, it made me giggle myself shitless. The only reason you should have to get an extra seat is because your huge effing quads take up more leg room then your average gym rat. If I was a flight attendant and one of these people bitched at me I would tell them:
Wow the sheer number of bigots and hypocrites on this site astounds me. With all of the negative stereotypes associated with bodybuilding you would think we could all relate a little. I guess perspective is lost on most people nowadays.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t applaud fat people. I try not to condemn them either, as my feelings should have no impact on their lifestyle decisions- just as their feelings should have no impact on mine. There are so many other worse things in this world than being fat.

I think you’re missing the point. And if America were actually a free country you would be right. The problem is that as we encroach closer and closer upon universal health care, who do you think is costing us our tax dollars, the healthy or the obese?
Fat people are getting disability payments…because they are FAT. Fat people are the reason that draconian laws on trans fats used in cooking are being pressed upon the American people. Fat people cost us our tax dollars and get anti-freedom laws passed against us.
Again, if we were actually free, then fat people can get fat and die and it wouldn’t hurt anything but my eyes. But in the United Socialist States of America it just doesn’t work that way.

Do you really think fat people are costing you any more money than drug addicts when it comes to health care costs? What about women who get pregnant? What about babies born with birth defects? What about people who get in car accidents? What about…
The problem I have with your argument is you’re healthy- you are a fairweather complainer about tax dollars being used for healthcare. What if you got really sick, even by something natural and out of your hands (cancer for example)? Would you still be complaining or would you be grateful others are paying taxes so you can live? You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
