You know how there is a “upper limit” on protein intake before your body doesn’t utilize it as efficiently (whether that limit is 50g, 60g, 92.5g, whatever…) is there a simliar thing happening when consuming fat?
Assuming they’re good fats, is there anything counterproductive about consuming 20, 30, … grams of fat in one sitting (knowing of course that you’ve already planned out your caloric intake, and this isn’t interfering with it).
Isn’t that the principle behind gaining muscle or fat? Consuming too many calories above what you need, whether that be fat, protein, carbs?
EDIT: Now that I actually read your post completely, I saw you said about caloric intake controlled. Either way, each person has special circumstances (time of day, level of activity and eating in relation to time of activity) that would affect fat metabolism. What you need to find is what works best for you, not a general guideline.
Hmm… I’m trying to remember where I read it, but at least when it comes to monounsaturated fats, you should not consume more than 50g in one sitting. As they are quite readily stored away it seems.
Still, 50g is a lot
This would mean, for those for example following Berardi’s advice of 33/33/33 ratio between sfa’s, mufa’s, and pufa’s, you’re looking at a total possibility of 150g of fat in one sitting.
That should be well in excess of 1000kcals, in one sitting. Even if just sticking to olive oil, 50g is more than 420 kcal, which would make whatever meal it’s added to a quite calorie rich meal.
At least for me, trying to eat 5-6 times per day, and at least regulating calories, this much fat in one sitting is not a good option.
i normally consume meals with 30g of fat, but carbs with these meals are limited to whatever is in the veggies. i don’t even count them. on the other hand i handle carbs poorly and fat well, so this may not apply to others.
daily intake is anywhere from 80-120g or 720-1080 kcal. this fits nicely into 2200-3000kcal range if roughly isocaloric.
to boost healthy fat intake i will use avocados, nuts and fish oil. the avocados have way more nutrients than any oil.
