Like the Barbarian Brother reference, those guys were awesome.
i guess the upside of being a BOF is being able to wear jeans when you train…

and… i wore jeans again today. i took the bike to the gym again because we had another warm day today.
here’s my BOF training for today. I’ll be pull’n tomorrow though…
Foam bench press
225x3
405x3
515x3x3 + 20lb PR from last week
incline
225x4
405x4x2- + 1 rep PR from last week. i’ll up this to 5 reps next week. felt strong
schwabs
315x6
405x6 + 2 rep PR
drop set
315x12, 225x10, 135x15
that’s it. can’t wait to do some real lifting tomorrow.
Your thinking that 515 benches aren’t “real lifting” scares me almost as much as the mental image of you and Bunny spooning on the couch and watching Oprah! ![]()
I hope the back is better, big guy.

thanks hoss!!
tomorrow is pull’n and skwatt’n. hopefully all goes well.
just a FYI…
Me and my guys will be putting on a few training seminars in the next couple months at the Gold’s Gym in Manassas, VA. We will also be hosting an unsanctioned Bench Press comp. as well. If we have a good turn out, we will then plan a Push/Pull and hopefully work up to full meets.
If anyone lives anywhere close to us, i would love to meet your folks. More details to follow in the coming days and weeks.
I hope the event goes well and you guys start having meets. I would definitely fly or drive down for a meet.

if it takes off, i’ll definitely get them sanctioned.
so would I, if I weren’t (a) weak, and (b) way the hell out in utah. I have always thought it would be fun to host something like that. I have a friend that does “alley cat” racing. this is done on fixed-gear bikes, by guys with tattoos, racing on a street course where they are not allowed to, usually around midnight. This gave me the idea of doing a midnight squat competition. prolly no one would come, but it would be fun if they did.
Good luck with the meet, Meat.
The end of a BOF Era.

i’m hope’n so… with that said, here is my very modest return to real powerlifting.
each week we are going to rotate between a heavy squat variaion and a heavy dead variation with a ligh dead and squat.
i chose rack pulls at my sticking spot so i wouldn’t be tempted to go too heavy… and that’s exactly what happened:)
135x6
225x4
315x4
405x4
495x3x3
full ROM zercher squats-paused at bottom. this is the first time we’ve done these. i like them a lot but it’s really hard to get any air in between reps when the weight gets a bit heavy. the aerobic steps are there in case we needed to drop the weight. i don’t like pins because you can bend a good bar that way.
0x10
135x4
225x3
315x3
365x2-would have gone for three but couldn’t get enough air for 3. i guess practice makes perfect
315x3
225x10
incline situps
bw x 10 x 3
hyperextensions
bw x 20 x 2
work’n it back in slowwww…
Nice work, Meat. Glad to see you back squatting. I hope the back is OK! If you get up to St. Louis, I got a couple of homebrews with your name on them.
I checked out some of the older vids of you doing zerchers while I was watching these. Really good stuff. I started doing zerchers mainly for the caber toss and highland games. Are you doing the full ROM paused zerchers for it’s carry over to squats or deads? Both?

back is okay… thanks for asking. i had some pain but backed off when it started.
that’s a plan… never met a brew i didn’t like.

I had to do that today, but I just didn’t have time to get changed and make the gym before it closed otherwise. It was empty, so only the check in staff and one middle aged woman saw me lifting in a button down oxford shirt and my khaki jeans.
Finished the lifts in record times though.

i like the full ROM much better than the pins. these are more of a total body movement. definitely can’t use nearly as much weight but i really feel it all over.
i’m using these to help both the squat and the dead. my lower back is obviously my weakpoint right now. i wanna build up my lower back to help protect my injury.
Glad you’re on the mend. Great zerchers.
Hey meat remember me? I’d just like to say thank you for your help with form earlier this year, I just nailed a 300 bench a 385 squat and a 495 dead this week. Without your advice I probably wouldn’t have those numbers right now.
Hope your back heals up quick, keep on truckin.
