Fat Guy in a Little Coat- Powerlifting Log

Your training looks great. Congrats on the military PR.

I have been following your advice on Julie’s log. Great tips for squatting. I like your checklist.

Claire

That one with the minibands was like 8 seconds from start to finish. Brutal. Nice to hear you’re firing on all 7.

…8? I don’t do car metaphors very well.

Wow… nice work Boss! That deficit pull, you were shaking like a blind male person of an alternative lifestyle in a wiener factory… to be politically correct!

Sweet Jeebus that’s a lot of heavy weight getting moved around. Usually, sessions look easy when they’re written down. I get exhausted just reading what you did

Great work.

another solid session- just plugging away adding 5lbs to full ROM each week and upping weight on accessory and supplemental lifts. i messed around with my bench setup tonight. i got so fucking tight that my lower back felt like it was going to break in half. i got a vid of it but it sucks. it needed to be from the side and standing…not sitting right in front of me.

full ROM bench
0x10
135x6
225x6
315x4
405x2
435x1x3 +5lbs from last week. it’s really hard to not add weight but i’m going to stay the course and move b back up slowly. these felt light and fast though.

pin presses
405x3
455x5x2 +50lbs from last week

incline dumbell extensions- paused
40’s x 6
60’s x 6
85’s x 6 +10lbs PR

roll’n

roll’n roll’n roll’n gotta keep on roll’n…

it blows my mind to see you bench that many plates with ease!

My elbows would explode if I tried extensions with 85’s
nice one

I’m guessing this is how you’ve always trained?

not really. when i’m 100% i usually do some sort of wave with the percentages. since i’m still technically rehabbing my poundages are still way below my all time maxes. I’m going to continue to do a progressive overload until i get back to where i was.

Hello - been lurking; awesome thread! My husband is competing at Senior Nationals in a few weeks. Its fun to see the different styles of training. Thanks for sharing your info!

my pleasure!!

squat night- switched to front squats to give my arms a rest from the back squats. i can tell that i haven’t done fronts in awhile.

front squats to a box
0x10
135x6
225x6
315x6
405x3x3

zercher squats off pins
135x4
225x4
315x4
405x2
455x2x3 + 50lbs from last week

seated calf raise

some x some

another good one.

Sweeeet… those front squats have got to be the most strict from I have ever seen… your upper torso hardly moved at all during the entire movement… unbelievable at that weight.

You da man…

Wow! Great job on the front squats.

Claire

Meat, are you thinking about competing at USAPL Raw Nationals in July, in Charlottesville? I don’t know if you’re qualified yet (have to compete in a three-lift USAPL meet in the prior year), but you would rock that place.

nah… i compete pretty much exclusively in the SPF. I’m training for the Worlds in october. i may get brow beat for saying this but i feel that the USAPL is a little to micromanaging for my taste.

Sweet Jesus. Awesome work.

I find that those 2 lifts alone kill my abs and obliques more than anything else, including hanging leg raises.

I really enjoy reading your log. Such a dedicated individual, I really admire that quality in a person. You sir take it a step farther and totally inspire others to do the same. Of everyone on this forum, and I love them all, you are the one I would so enjoy meeting in person. You make me what to start powerlifting, unfortunately I’m addicted to inline speed skating at the time. Stay super strong and lift really heavy things.
