I cannot find the old string of messages about peoples fat fast experiences so I’m starting up a new one. I’m curious as to what to eat
exactly. I’m cool with downing some Udo’s Oil, tuna with a little mayo, eggs and such. I’m just looking to shed about 15 lbs of fat. I’ve read from so many of you how great things were working for you. Here’s my new concern, I came across this article Here’s the article summarized:
“…Low carbohydrate diets are also characterized by initial rapid weight loss, primarily due to excessive water loss. A decreased carbohydrate intake causes liver and muscle glycogen depletion, which causes a large
loss of water, since about three parts of water are stored with one part of glycogen…
…Dieters cherish this rapid initial weight loss and assume it represents fat loss. Actually, their body fat stores are virtually untouched. And, as the body adjusts for the water deficit, the weight loss slows or ceases.”
I almost hate doing research on any other site than here because I’m not sure when it’s bullshit and when it makes sense. John Berardi, is this article worthless? Are the fat stores not touched? Thanks for helping me clear up confusion T-Mag readers.
You do lose a good bit of water weight with keto diets. That water weight will return, but believe me, you can lose a heck of a lot of fat on keto diets as well. I’ve lost over eighty pounds in the last two years and most of that came off during keto diets.
Most diets produce an intial wt loss of mostly water…but keto diets do so even more than others. that doesnt mean that fat isnt lost. you will lose fat on any sensible diet. but with keto diets you will lose a bit more weight due to the loss of water. as far as what to eat, the site and the forum is packed with good info on that.
Do not despair.
Yes, you will lose water weight as you deplete your glycogen stores. But the same thing happens on any diet, only slower. The lack of carbohydrates causes your body to use what you have stored as glycogen.
You may want to have a small carbohydrate meal before working out, because “fire burns in the fire of carbohydrates”* also small amounts at other meals to power the brain.
