Hey Mainy, so true that a lot of the PW loggers have moved to different parts of TN, really makes it hard to keep up with all of you womenz.
Kinda off topic, my hubby wants me to get my passport, I really don’t want to go out of the states, except to visit you for a training session and out to eats!!! I think he wants to visit Canada but not sure which parts.
Are you really training for 2.5 hours??? I’d be on the floor and someone would have to drag me home.
No way in hell. I’m as anti-diet as you can get. Give me a slab of un-pasteurized goat’s milk cheese and sundried figs on fresh crunchy baguette with a glass topped with sparlking Riesling anyday. That there is my gold medal after a tough week in the gym.[/quote]
Ouch! You just made my stomach growl, mmmmmm!
Hey we almost have the same bday (I think).
2 rounds of squats? Was that your special bday present to yourself?
charlie - you haven’t been loggin; what’s up with your knees? knee sleeves, wraps, rehab, warm up? there must be something you can do?
Mim - yours are the sweetest. thank you.
Joe - had a good birthday on the 25th, husband took me out for some good food on the 26. Lovely new place very urban hipster, very creative. After we went for my favorite dessert: a high end hot chocolate. NOMM!!
Cal - no cake; I requested homemade raspberry pie (topped with candles and all), I got it and eated it all!! oh man, so good. Yesterday we had the most decadent hot chocolat you could imagine.
Brute- thanks!!
Spock - on the 5/3/1 program and other less intensive stuff that lasted around an hour I’d come home high and happy. I could spend 20mins dancing around in my appartment just to shake off the excess buzz. I find the Sheiko drains my soul pretty much and I come home empty. I want food, shower and bed. pretty much in that order. Grumpy? I don’t know but def tired and anti social. Unless this gets easier I plan to do my 12 weeks and move on to something else. Pushing beyond yourself each and everytime gets old on the immune system and drains you too fast. I’m up for the experiment though.
LILP - trying to power through the Sheiko as fast as I can on best days its 90 minutes but so far I’m averaging 2 to 2.5hrs. I swear I’m not yapping away either. Holy hell if you ever make it to Montreal def let me know, I can hook you up with some serious good noms and I’ll gladly have my ass handed to me watching you lift. please check ego at the door lolz We would terrorize my gym, loving the idea already.
MT: I’m the 25th my fellow mermaid and you? The second round of squats is Sheiko’s way of laughing at your silliness when you think “well I’ve been killing it for 2hrs now, I should be about done”…negative.
charlie - you haven’t been loggin; what’s up with your knees? knee sleeves, wraps, rehab, warm up? there must be something you can do?

Solution to the problem is rest and doing something different that doesn’t hurt (running and build up sprints on flat ground). This has been what I’ve been doing since Oct.
Then start adding back in the exercises that hurt. This is where I’m at with the dl, I’ll be giving it a try on the weekend. I think the squat will take longer to come back. I also need to be careful of knee tracking during these lifts and my left is weaker/lazier. It’s the right knee that was hurting so maybe doing more that it’s share caused the problem?
I’ll also be going up by 5 on these lifts instead of 10, maybe that was the problem or part of it.
Logging? Maybe, not sure. lol I’m kind of lazy and a bit fickle with the logging.
I rarely rep over ten, I’ve had this discussion with Snap and others; basically form gets very sloppy if you’re handling big enough weights which means recipe for disaster.
glad to know you are getting back into it. if you won’t log, I’ll share mine with ya as a fellow canadianner said with awful french accent. let us now how it goes this weekend.

I have noticed this trend a bit. I tend to gravitate to logs authored by competitive powerlifters because that’s what I really like to read about: the quest for maximal strength. And I am becoming more and more intrigued by Sheiko, Frenchie. All the squatting! Is there a way to sub out the paused DLs? That prospect does not appeal, probably because I’m afraid I would throw my form at the pause just like I do with rack pulls. I’d love to see a video of those paused DLs.
Hey Snap - I’ll bring my camera to the gym today. It’s usually nice and quiet on saturday afternoons. Plus I haven’t update my youtube channel since October.
I’m guessing you could switch out the paused deads for some elevated deads (boxed). The idea is to smoke your back before hitting the regular deads that way you are pushing hard at 80% rather than 95%. Maybe some bands? or heavy goodmornings?? Not sure…

Yep, I was totally like that at first (nlmain), but it was actually YOUR log and the hardcore-ness of your routine that gave me the powerlifting bug again, ha. THANK GOD for that, holy man.
I love reading this shit because it makes me feel like any strength i want to achieve is totally possible if I am willing to make it my first priority. And right now it is. I don’t WANT to care about weight loss or how sexy I look naked. WHYYY does that even matter, I am the only person who sees me naked?! I am not happy being weak, but I didn’t realize that ?!
Anyway, yay for both of your and your being strong is so awesomely bad ass attitudes.

Omg! I just realized that “smoke your back before hitting the regular deads that way you are pushing hard at 80% rather than 95%” is a viable training method that’s pretty fucking brilliant.
I’m doing something similar on my DL day by warming up with hang cleans and front squats. At first I was dubious about this method, thinking you’d want to DL fresh to get the most benefit. But at the stage I’m at now, where I’m working volume and form, it makes sense that you’d want to push somewhat fatigued - can’t articulate why this works, of course, but i imagine that you have to work harder to keep form and such. I don’t know. Either way, it makes the drop set after your top set feel so much smoother! Its pretty cool.
So its settled, if Frenchie is fatigued by Sheiko, there’s no way in fucking hell I’ll have the moxy to do it. Lol! Amazing work, mama.
Just stopping by to read about your awesomeness. Sheiko sounds draining, but I predict big gains for you after sticking with the program. I can understand, though, that you’d want to circle the calendar date when it ends.
Heh, I’m trying to get lean and strong at the same time. I know you can’t serve two masters but hey, I’m going to give it a damned good try.
Shieko, though…sounds pretty gruesome.
For me, sexiness is all about self-confidence. And [for whatever reason] I feel my most confident when I’m really strong. If sexiness were about a number on a scale, then I should be feeling really sexy right now. But I’m not. At all.
Spock: no shit, as I was setting up for my 2nd set of heavy deads today a couple of guys whom I assume didn’t think I heard them actually said: damn she’s hot! You’ll find that many people have a broader sense of sexiness than you might think. As Snap mentionned confidence is sexy. Swagger is sexy, a genuine hunger for all things pleasure is sexy.
And if there is a quote I have made my internal moto it’s this one:
“The myth that women should not lift heavy is advanced only by women who fear effort and men who fear women” -Eric Midkiff, Olympic Weightlifter
Written by a man. At the end of the day I do not care if I don’t appeal to the weaklings. Those that get it, get me. Embrace it.
Maschy - the idea, I suppose, is that hitting 95% constantly is demanding and also risky. It’s less risky to hit an 80% effort tired than 95% every week. At least, I think. I was also one to start the hardest thing fresh. I’ll see how this program transfers to my 1 rep maxes in a couple of months. Also regarding your new program, if you’re spending a couple of hours in there bring some back up food. Something quick digesting to help you keep going.
Busy - thanks, and your welcome. I’m sure other peeps will have some useful comments to add.
Kimba - I’m totally frothing at the mouth over the challenge but you’re right. Coming home drained is difficult even if it’s only 3 days a week. I’m taking this 4 weeks at a time. Part 1 is almost done.
Cal - discoveries weren’t made by following the over trodden path. prove my wrong and lazy
Snap - we have the same outlook on sexiness and self esteem. be patient and you’ll be tearing it up in no time. I must say those back to back operations would have taken a big toll on my sanity. Major cudos.
Joe - thanks - and she’s pretty although a little on the small side. I could probably bench her. lolz
Deficit Deads off step - never done these before and had to figure out my stance and balance
150 2x3
185 2x3
200 4x3
Deads pause at the knees - just for Snap. weren’t on today’s menu.
200 1x3
Bench
80 1x5
95 1x4
110 2x3
125 3x2
130 2x2 felt strong and controlled. very happy.
125 2x3
Sumo Deadlifts
185 1x4
215 2x4
245 2x3
275 3x2 -Ink said that I’d be a better man than him if I got these. So of course I had to get them, without straps I will add. (I never use those). This is basically 90% of my last tested max.
Dumbbell Lunges
30lbs 5x5
Flies
15lbs 5x10
In all fairness the program called for the flies before the 2nd set of deads but I wanted to keep hogging the new bar while I had it. Also I rested for a full 5 minutes between the last set of reps at 275. The first one was so shakey and tough to lock out I knew I wouldn’t make it without the rest period. Good news is the 275 is actually easy off the floor, my issue is locking it out. It was a struggle but I fought it through grunting and talking to myself out loud everytime. LWI!
CARBS! Man, if I ate all that I’d be like one of those mobility scooting walmart land whales. Srsly.
Damned good job on the pulls. Did that put some hair on your testicles?
