I’ve been pleasantly surprised that my ten year old has kept up with his workout program. He’s lifting 2 or 3 times a week. Been doing zerchers, back squats, pulldowns, bench, planks and MP. I was going to show him front squats but thought it might be to complicated. But yesterday without me telling him anything he unracked an empty bar and started front squating O-style. I’m hoping he sticks with lifting through the spring and summer. That along with lacrosse should have him in great shape for hockey next season.[/quote]

Makes me want to slap that Nintendo out of my boy’s hands…

I hope I didn’t give the impression my son is all about training. He plays xbox and goofs off as much as any kid. I purposely keep his workouts short and sweet. Two exercises for 3-5 sets and after that he can do more only if he wants to. And I let him pick the music. When the good weather finally gets here I want to get outside and do some fun stuff: hitting the tire, sprints, jumps, etc. I’m trying my best to keep things fun and new.

No no - nothing like that. Envy on my part. I just wish my son had a little more interest in lifting. I think I’ve actually driven him off it, since I tend to get really serious and intense about it. I get grumpy when the weight gets heavy too, which he doesn’t like.

That sounds like a good plan you have there. As a father of an artist, not an athlete its pretty cool to hear about your children’s endeavours. Thanks for filling us in

I just re-read my last post. I sounded so serious-sorry. What I meant to say is my son is as big a goof as I am. If he felt pressured at all he’d be done. Thats why I have to keep it light hearted and fun.

I think that its awesome that you get to train with your son, and it sounds like you have struck a great balance on the amount of encouragement you give him.

Great the son is getting into working out, sounds well rounded sports wise. Total trivia time. Jim Brown, the football player, elected to the Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1983.

Lacrosse… awesome sport, played during the summers when I was a kid to keep me in shape and toughened up for hockey (no summer hockey back then).

Training looking good brother… I was feeling like I was gonna puke after reading about those squats. I woulda yacked for sure…

Its got to be cool to have your son lifting with you.

I can not help thinking how much fun it would be to train with my kids…
however, I am already fending off the questions about wrestling. go figure.

Nice work Steve. I still think those high rep squats, gave us all doms.
