What a way to start your 48th year on this earth, at 5 a.m. with complexes and cardio. I worked up a good sweat. Nothing remarkable to report. I’m going back tonight and do something. The daughter has rehearsals for her voice recital. She and her mom will be doing that thing for a few hours.

JW’s Wednesday wonderment: If it’s so great outside, why are all the bugs trying to get inside my house?

Happy Birthday JW!

Only two more years until all secrets are revealed, as long as they don’t skip you like they did me. Nice way to celebrate the birthday.

JW what a nice way to kick off the birthday…

kmc

Happy birthday JW. May you have many more healthy ones.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. 48 came by pretty much under the radar.

Wednesday night workout

Bench with bands:
Bar x10, 115x5, 135x5, 185x5, 2x205x3(wide grip)2x205x3 (normal grip), 2x135x3 close grip

Tate press: 3x40x7
Rear delt raise: 3x30x8

I should have used 185 and the bands. The shoulder hurt pretty bad by the second set of wide grips. Its pretty obvious my left triceps is the weak one. I could do a lot more 40# reps with my right arm. I hope the rear delt raises help with my shoulder weakness.

Thursday morning workout:

Isometric rubber band twisty abs thingys: 3 at 30 seconds
Squat in the smith: 135x10, 2x185x8, 2x205x8
Decline leg raises: sets of 22, 15, 14
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

The summer morning crowd is coming on strong. What used to be sleepy quiet JW times with ESPN, USA Network, and TWC are filled with purple dumbbell toatin’, thigh-master usin’, bonus ball balancin’ fitness dudes and dudettes(well more like fitness mommies) falling all over themselves. For some reason we wannabe weightlifting types get in their wayâ?¦ Alas, JW is stuck… forever to be lost amongst the non weightlifters. ONE DAY, I’m going to build my own old school gym.

JWs pre going to the liver doc rambling: By all means marry; if you get a good wife, you’ll be happy. If you get a bad one, you’ll become a philosopher

Thursday evening workout

ASSISTED pull ups: 3sets of 5
Croc rows: 3x85x8
Barbell Curl and press: 3x85x8
Treadmill walk: 15 minutes

Went to the gastroenterologist today. Thankfully what I thought was a parasite is more than likely just a bacteria imbalance in my gut. He drew some blood, laughed at my travel tales. There were no threats of impending ‘scopies’ or ‘opseys’. There is not a better feeling than leaving a GI doc knowing he doesn’t have a hankering to run a camera down your throat or one up your ass.

Celebrated the anniversary by going to the gym. The wife and young’un were at ballet tonight. Just me and the cats from the steel mill and all the Zumba ladies…

JW’s thoughts of 15 years of marital bliss: Bigamy is having one wife too many. Monogamy is the same

Good thing my wife doesn’t read the crap I write

Happy belated birthday willy, and happy anniversary. I guess I didn’t realize till now we’re the same age. I turned 48 a couple months ago.

Thanks DZ, I dont guess 48 is so bad… yet!!

Friday morning workout
YWTL warm up: 7 lbs
Tortureplexes: 5 sets, increasing reps, still using 2 bars
Treadmill interval 20 minutes

I guess the holiday weekend has slowed the morning gym traffic. It was back to me and the radio this morning. Another good conditioning session. Going to work my back tomorrow again.

JW’s observation of the day: When God, who created the entire universe with all of its glories, decides to deliver a message to humanity, He WILL NOT use, as His messenger, a person on cable TV with a bad hairstyle.

Last Saturday morning workout:

Rear Delt Raise: 3x35x8
Lat pull downs: 3x130x8
Face pulls: 3x45x15
Chest supported rows: 3x135x8

I didn’t work to hard Saturday. I was off to the beach for the Memorial Day weekend. Played putt-putt, laser tag, and sat on the beach with the daughter and one of her friends . Moved furniture for my parents. Ate big ole sausage egg and cheese bagels for breakfastâ?¦ All and all a good time. They have a new gym that has opened at the beach. It’s a for real weightlifters, tire flipping, kettle ball tossing, polymetric doing, place. Iâ??d almost join and ride 75 miles down there every weekend to get some solid training in.

Monday morning workout: back to reality

Squat in the Smith: 135x20, 2x185x5, 2x205x5
Isometric rubber band twisting ab hold things: 3 times each side for 30 seconds
Decline leg raises: sets of 20, 20, and 12
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

Back to reality. I started the morning off with a 20 rep squat. THAT WILL get the old ticker going. I may just do that every workout for a while. It felt good to be back in the gym even if I was off only 2 days.

JW’s Monday morning wonderment: Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?

Happy belated Willy!
I too had one of those yearly things on the 19th. Training is looking good buddy, kep it up!

48 and still going strong! Sounds like you had a good holiday. I love egg, sausage and cheese on a bagel. The babes on the beach checking you out?

HAHA not hardly Eco… But it’s nice to dream!!

I was at my youngest sons basebal practice recently and this young woman comes over and says to me,“can me and my friend use one of your baseballs to play catch with?”. I said,“I’m not the coach so I’m not sure”. So she says,“I thought you were the coach because you look the oldest here.” I hate young people.

I’m glad it happens to someone besides me… They gave me a senior citizen discount a while back at the grocery store, the damn kid rang my purchase up, looked at me TWICE and hit the senior discount… I wanted to slap the little SOB. The sad thing is I accepted the 50 cents discount and left the store without a word… that still hurts!!

Someone told me “Dad, you only look like you’re 30 years old”

He really likes his new bike.

Work the system, J. Good with the bad and all that.

j_willy3…would you be so kind to explain Tortureplexes? I Googled them and checked all of the places online that I know to look and couldn’t find a description of the exercise. Thanks for your time…Dent

Dent, I dont think you will find anything about tortureplexes other than this thread. I coined the name myself as a weakling attempt to be colorful. Its basisly a complex done with 2 bars. I use a heavy weight for my pulling, stiff legged deadlift, high pulls and bent rows. I go to a lighter bar for military press and then on my back for a squat. I do them real fast thus the ‘torture’ and the ‘plex’ for the complex…

Hope this explains my silliness

Many times while reading your thread I thought to myself “this guys an animal” of coarse I thought it in a jealous, respectful way…this absolutely reaffirms that you are!! Thanks for the quick response and I’ll try to keep…keeping up with ya…thanks for all the laughs…Dent
