Fat, Bald, and D@%n Near 50

Sunday morning workout

YTWL Shoulder warm up: 5 lbs
Bench with bands: 135x8, 205x5, 205x3, 205x5, 2x205x3
Floor Press: 2x225x5, 3x245x3
Flat bench dumbbell press: 60x12, 2x60x10, 60x6
CGP in the smith: 135x12, 145x10, 2x175x6

Good workout. At times the weight felt heavy, others the weight went up pretty easy. I’m going to the Walgreens for an Ace bandage so I can fasten my boards to my chest. '?m planning to bring them in the training next week. My shoulder pain seems to be easing to a easily manageable level. My flexibility seems to be improving as well.

Looks like I’m over Ho Chi Minh’s revenge. My insides are not all topsy turvy any more. I’m back on the decent diet. Going to grill a flank steak tonight and make a fresh asparagus salad with sherry vinaigrette and prosciutto ham and shaved parmesan cheese.

JW’s Sunday words of sarcasm: I don’t approve of political jokes. I’ve seen too many of them get elected.

Been at work since 5:45 last night (day 4 of 4 with 12 hour shifts)…it’s 4:30 in the morning and when I get off at 6:00 my attention span doesn’t go to far past my pillow. After reading about the YTWL shoulder warm up and knowing my shoulders are my biggest obstacle, I am headed home to change and going straight to the gym to try it. If it helps me even a little bit I will be smile’n from ear to ear.

Thanks j_willy3 for starting this thread. I have learned a lot. Have a great week…and thanks again for helping fuel my addiction to the “IRON”

Monday morning workout

YTWL Shoulder warm up
Tortureplexes: 5 sets
Treadmill walk: 20 minutes

The YTWL’s are making daily progress on my shoulder. The T motion and the W motion give me the most trouble. Worked a good sweat up with the complex movement. I hate the cardio, but I know it’s all a part of the process.

8:30 am and this week is shaping up to be busy in both my work life and personal life. There seems to be a little spurt of business we are trying to capitalize on. The wife has a lot of crap lined up for me as well. Had to be the daddy carpool and get the young’un to school this morning. It’s all part of the process.

JW’s Monday observation: I drive way too fast to worry about cholesterol.

Thursday morning workout:

Squats in the Smith: 135x10, 2x205x5, 2x225x5
Decline leg raises: sets of 20, 20, and 17
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

Typical squat day. Hope to move the weights up real soon. I got called down about doing zerchers with all his aerobic gear to make a platform. I guess this is a good sign the gym owner isn’t going for my plan to buy him a power rack for his gym.

Having a wildly busy week. There seems to be activity and maybe business is getting better for a brief run. I’m trying to get in touch with my stomach Doc. I think I picked up a little stomach ‘tag-along’(and it ain’t no Girl Scout cookie) during my Asia travels. Never in my life has coffee given me heartburn. It sure does now!! Someone is going to have to fix that shit too!!

JW’s stoopid ass thought of the day: Life begins at 40 - but so do fallen arches, rheumatism, faulty eyesight, and the tendency to tell a story to the same person, three or four times.

they say memory is the first to go…

I tried the approach with my gym, to buy say squat stands- they had an answer very quickly
Insurance.

However, continuing to stack up the strangest assortment of stuff to lift off of, seems to be working.

nice work

Hey, memory is definitely the second thing to go.

Ask for a squat rack, if they say no. Advice them that you sure hope you don’t hurt yourself doing squats without one. That’s a law suit any lawyer will take. Squat racks are for safety, they’re stupid morons and have no idea what they saying.

Yep, But at least they make drugs for the first thing that goes…

Wednesday morning workout:

YWT… No dammit YTWL shoulder warm up 5 lbs
Tortureplexes: 5 sets of 6 reps
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

Between and Advil and the warm-ups the shoulders seem to be less gimpy. I worked up a good solid sweat and really raised the heartbeat today. All in all a good session. Going back in tonight for some chest work.

Looks like we are in a normal spring weather pattern of afternoon and evening thundershowers here. It’s been years since its been like that. The swamps are filling up, the skeeters are swarming, the grass is growing, hel’s favorite snakes are slithering, and I’m not riding my Harley because the grass needs cutting damn near every day!

JW’s Wednesday warbling: Just remember…if the world didn’t suck, we’d all fall off.

That’s too funny - I mix the order up all the time on the TYLW’s

Wednesday evening workout

YWTL shoulder workout
Bench Press: 135x10, 205x5, 245x3, 245x2, 2x245x3
Bent over cable cross overs: 4x45x15
Curl and press: 2x65x10, 2x75x10

I was kind of happy with my bench numbers. Lost concentration with the second set and missed the 3rd rep. The shoulder seems to be holding up OK. I think I’ll be able to start trying to sneak up on 300 again.

I have forgotten how much stress relief the training gives me. I guess the need to develop a mechanism for stress relief really hit me in the face today. I have a colleague that had a meltdown during his flying lesson for his instrument rating. He stopped flying the plane and the instructor had to take him down. This guy has a little mill that has been caught by the economic slowdown and the loss of the domestic furniture manufacturing business. The guy as not been able to adjust both his business and personal life to this ‘perfect storm’. I feel some kind of bad for him. But I feel some kind of selfish relief for me. I searched for few and different ways to operate, and for a way to keep my sanity. The iron keeps me sane!

JW doesn’t have any witticisms for tonight. I think I’ll feel like one tomorrow.

Bench is looking good in spite of shoulder problems. I’m back on my quest for the perfect bench form but at a lot lower weight for the moment. Iron helps keep us all sane or at least from getting any crazier.

Thursday morning workout:

Squat in the Smith: 135x10, 3x205x5, 2x225x5
Decline leg raises for abs: sets of 20, 18, and 13
Treadmill walk: 20 minutes

Tried to work on squatting deeper. I was used up after the second set of 225. The abs work finished me up. I struggled thru my treadmill work.

I’m waiting for my stomach doc to see me. I think I re-entered the US with an undocumented illegal single cell organism from Asia. The damn little bastard doesn’t like coffee, so I gotta get the thing fixed. I’m not giving up my Community Coffee!

More of JW’s meanderings: Life not only begins at forty, it begins to show.

Friday Morning workout

YTWL shoulder warm up
Tortureplexes: 5 sets 7 reps, 115# barbell and 75# barbell
Treadmill walk: 20 minutes

More conditioning. Nothing to be excited about. Just another boring post on a busy as hell Friday. I thought Fridays are supposed to be relaxed!!

JW’s Friday thought: Never pick a fight with an old man. If he is too tired to fight, he will just kill you.

Saturday morning workout

YTWL warm up: 5 lbs
Front Raises in the Smith: 4x120x8
Dumbbell Rows: 4x65x10
Lat pull downs: 4x130x8
Face pulls: 4x40x15
Chest supported barbell rows: 2x135x8, 135x7, 135x8
Starbucks: 1 Grande Blackeye, no room
4 Mother’s Day Cards (funny ones, not serious)
1 loaf French Baguette
2 lbs Smithfield Farms thick sliced bacon
2 bouquets roses for Motherâ??s Day

Solid workout this morning. Nothing really to note. I have to get off my ass and rework things to refocus on “ugly strong”.

Got the Mother’s Day stuff out of the way. Nothing sappy and sweet for JW. It’s laughs all around here. Going to fire up the hawg for a ride to work!

JW’s words of irrelevance: Never do card tricks for the group you play poker with.

Sunday morning workout

Bench with bands: 135x10, 5x225x5
Floor Press 245x4, 255x2, 245x2, 2x245x4
Flat Dumbbell press: 3x60x12
JM press in the Smith: 3x135x15

Interesting workout this morning. I tried to do the band benches like I would be doing a speed bench. I got a little cocky on the floor press with 255. When I dropped back to 245 somehow I lost my concentration and missed my reps. That pissed me off. It also made me realize concentration is so critical at 47, way more so than when I was 22! I’ll not make that mistake again. Between the aches and pains I need to stay on my “A” game every day I am in the gym!

JWâ??s Mother’s Day Mindless Meandering: When you feel neglected, think of the female salmon, who lays 3,000,000 eggs but no one remembers her on Mother’s Day

Damn nice pressin’ J! and your observation is spot on, loss of focus easily leads to injury for anybody - but it takes us longer to heal up these days.

Lot of pressin there. When a good song is playing at the gym I’ll get it in my head and lose count all the time. 1,1,1,uh,2,uh 5, uh, hell 8.

At least I’m not alone in relearning lessons. Way to many things to remember. Stay strong brother!

Monday morning workout:

Tortureplexes: 5 sets 8 reps 2 bars loaded with 115 and 70 pounds.

Treadmill walk, 20 minutes

It was hard going this morning. Had a little stomach bug put me down for about 4 hours yesterday. It just took all the wind out of my sails. I was better late in the afternoon.

Looks like today is a throwback day. It feels like March!! We have a cold drizzling rain and the winds are howling out of the northeast. What the Hell happened to May??

JW’s Monday thought: If at first you don’t succeed, then skydiving isn’t for you.
