I guess the time off really hit me. Weight up 4 lbs. Gym was crowded but still easy to get the workout in. I guess a lot of folks missed their Monday workouts as well. Not real excited about the work today, maybe my mind will be back in the zone for a better Thursday workout. However this has me concerned about the week I have to spend abroad in June. I have to get in touch with the travel agent and make sure the hotel has more than an elliptical machine!
JW-- Remember a bad day at the gym is better than a great day at the proctolgist’s office.
Keep grindin’ brotherman!
Also, for travel, my ‘required minimum carry on’ includes resistance bands for pushups, ab wheel, jump rope, and IronMind grippers. That way, no matter where I am, I can get something done. Add in burpee tabatas and BW squats and you’re golden!
OH HELL YES!!! You are right about that!!! Thanks for the advice Steely. Do you think I can get thru customs in a communist country with that? haha! The bands and the roller will be on the shopping list this weekend!
Good workout Willy! I have to ask… what are “Cuban Shrugs”? They done with a Mohito in your hand… lol! (seriously… never heard of 'em)
Steely… I love your outlook… almost passed my coffee through my nose readin’ that!
Cognac… welcome, you will find lots of us here willing to share our war stories and show our scars… and if you close your eyes, and concentrate really hard, you will smell the linament and hear the creaking/ popping and groaning of bones.
35 minutes of elliptical hell. That is the only way to describe it. After ducking 2 days of cardio work it was hard to get my legs under me this morning. The weather man made the forecast depressing, winds out of the north, 20 degrees cooler, big ass 200 hp electric motor is dead at work, the whole gamut is depressing.
But I soldiered thru. Weights tomorrow, the DAUGHTER’S ballet recital is on Saturday, and Sunday morning I think I’ll try to but in some new exercises. I have been thinking my workout is way to “push oriented”. But what the hell, it is working for me. Maybe I should set some goals first…
Oh, I did get in about 30 situps and a few dozen crunches.
Sorry to hear about the weather. We finally had a nice summer type day here on Monday (80 and sunny) and then yesterday and today it turned cold (highs in the 50s). Funny how the weather can set your mood but it does.
Are you going to have video of your ballet recitals for all of us to view? This is certainly one way to switch up your routine…
Great work Willy, I’m enjoying your log. Welcome cognac, you’ll enjoy it here in our old dudes community. A little while back we had Colin in a speedo, we may now have Willy in a tutu. Pics of the recital please.
DAMN I need to proof my posts! Its the daughter’s ballet recital. Boy me in a tutu would be way uglier than ANYONE in a speedo!
Glad I could make you smile DZ! Mday, my friends in Eau Claire swear it doesnt get warmer than 50 degrees there until July. Are they lying about Wisconsin?
Usually by July 4th, you can go outside without the parka and snow pants but by then the mosquitos are so bad that you don’t want to spend anytime outside anyways.
Our weather is nothing like North Carolina. My wife is originally from San Diego and she cannot wait for us to move to a warmer climate. North Caroline is on our short-list of places to consider.
I was rather looking forward to the pictures of you in a tutu…
Hey mday, come on down to Kackylacky. You can come to the east where you need webbed feet to make it to the mailbox, or move to the west where you need one leg shorter than the other to walk on the hill sides.
The skeeters are bad here state wide, and if you aren’t careful you will get bit by one in December!
Want some motivation? You have a 10 year old daughter, right? In a few years she will be a teen, and the boys will start coming around. You want to be as big and scary as possible.
Now was the 4 lbs fat, or muscle? Water? Sometimes taking some time off can actually result in more muscle, giving it time to recover and build up.
Anyway, if you hate cardio, have you tried intervals? Research is showing that short interval sessions are just as effective, it not more so then steady state cardio. Although it is best to have both in the mix.
I was actually amazed at how it affected me the first time I tried it. A few weeks after adding it in, I needed to climb a few flights of stairs, and when I got to the top I couldn’t believe I didn’t feel a thing.
Al Oerter (if you don’t know who he is you’re a heathen) was one of the most massive individuals I ever met. Think he went 6’4" and up to 295 with very little body fat. Use to tell the story of when his 2 girls first started dating. Would wait at the door until the date rang at least twice then yank it open and yell, “who the hell are you”. Swore one actually pissed himself.
Thanks for the welcome bunny. Do you guys recommend any PRE-workout powders or pills? Tough coming home from work and trying to hit the weights. Thanks

I’ve got a teenage daughter. A sword collection goes well with the shotguns
I read that Al Oerter story. My favorite rule for dating my daughter is Rule Four: I’m sure you’ve been told that in today’s world, sex without utilizing a “barrier method” of some kind will kill you. Let me elaborate: when it comes to sex, I am the barrier, and I will kill you.
Mage I have been considering interval training, I will look into it more.
Cognac, I do 8 oz of skim milk and a scoop of whey powder before and after my workout.
NICE THREAD j_willy3!!! You have made quite a transformation; I congratulate you & am impressed at your plan of attack and the way you have implemented it!

All the best on your workouts. Do you have access to dumbbells at your gym?
If you work barbell movements for about 3-4 weeks you might want to look into dumbbell movements to keep your muscles from adapting to one movement.
Other random comments from reading your thread.
Elliptical machines . . . Whenever I use these things my feet get really HOT and feel like they are burning. I use the treadmill.
Food log or diary . . . These are a pain but they do keep the results going.
Workouts . . . I used to work out with some powerlifters. Now I workout with my wife. I finally got her onboard and we are making progress together. I don’t have to hear about seeing the hotties at the gym any more.
My wife and I both are going to lose 75 pounds or more this year.
Well that’s about it. I enjoy your thread it’s pretty cool.
I discovered something about myself today. I’m a morning workout guy. They just work better for me. 7pm is not the time foe Willy to workout! I was locked out of the gym this morning so no worries, The youngun has dress rehearsal for her recital. Dad can slip in an early evening workout. Wow…the definition of FUBAR were illustrated tonight!
I just ran out of gas tonight. I guess with work and my diet during the day I don’t have enough for the evening work. Damn it just sucks! But now I have the resolve to get back on track Sunday morning.
