Cardio day today. The complexes help temper my absolute disdain for the treadmill or the elliptical machine. I guess they give me the weight lifting fix I need.
Sore from Saturday and Sunday. It’s that good, I worked really hard soreness. Off to banging my head against the wall at work. Looks like I’ll need to get used to that!
No treadmill. Going to get back on that tomorrow along with a complex or 5.
My brother and I went with my Dad to the hospital this morning. He had that deal where they run the wire in and look at the veins and arteries around the heart for blockages. Instead of an interstate highway, my Dad’s veins look like a back woods road thru West Virginia. I guess we sit on our hands and wait for my Dad to make the obvious decision.
Today makes my return to the gym really seem worthwhile.
Damn I hate winter. After a few years of mild Decembers, this is one from my childhood. Highs in the high 40’s and dreary drizzle. If it’s not cloudy it’s as cold as a witch’s boob in a cast iron bra, lying face down in the snow. Yep the really cold days the highs are in the high 30’s. I hate winter more than I hate the treadmill!!

Willy, sorry to hear about your dad.
When are deadlifts entering the ‘ugly strong’ quest?[/quote]
Thanks Eco. I am trying to work dead lifts in, but unfortunately for me the gym isn’t dead lift or squat friendly. I’m going to try to sneak them in regardless.
Squats in the smith machine: 2x135x5, 3x185x5
Leg curls: 80x6, 95x6, 2x110x6
Leg ext.: 4x95x6
Today is the first time I have squatted in a while other than the complexes. Yes its a smith and I hate it, but I’m going to work my weight up. I think I may work in some heavier lunges. Plus I may put in split squats or the Bulgarian thingies.
I stepped on the scale today, I was shocked when it leveled at 234. I guess the complexes are beginning to work.
Then I took the time to retrace my journey by reading my logs. Lately and they just suck. I guess life is getting in the way of expressing my feelings. Sorry for the shitty posts.
I wouldn’t worry about squatting in a smith machine. While not as effective as free squats for total development, you can still make your self some very strong legs with it. Use what you got, go for something better when it presents itself.
Glad to hear the complexes are working. It’s hard to do them when you like to push heavy, but they pay off. Some folks like to alternate heavy days and complex days, even to the extent of working out every day, though I would go slowly into the that.
The thing I like about our threads is that we can express how we’re feeling at the time we write in them. Those feelings aren’t always overwhelmingly positive, but those who matter don’t mind. And those who mind don’t matter. That’s what I think, anyway.
Things are getting difficult out there. It ain’t just you.

Skid, deep down you have to be a Southerner. Thanks for the opinion. I like to lift every day, and I feel better when I lift everyday. I’m going to work the complexes in on my “non-lifitng” days along with the renewed cardio.
I was huffing and puffing today. Passed on the treadmill. I should have done 15 minutes at least. I forgot to make the coffee pot last night, and I rushed on home to stay out of the doghouse. Yep, yep, that’s my story…I’m sticking to it! I will renew the effort Monday, my next complex day.
My Dad goes today to determine his course of treatment for his heart stuff. I guess the treatment is pretty obvious. I think he is having a time coming to grips with his mortality. He is upbeat, and in good shape for a man that turns 75 in 6 days. All will be fine. Anyone would not look forward to spending their birthday and Christmas in the hospital.
I re-read my last workout post and what a freaking pity party post I wrote. Damn, I have to stop with them. Someone slap my ass and call me Sally! I am going to try for a no pity party zone here!
I was trying a repetitive type deal with my bench work today, along the lines of the Tim Henrique’s train of thought. I mean damn, the guy went to JMU and they pounded the crap out of ASU this season…Maybe I need to be looking into someone from UR since they kicked our ass in this season’s playoffs…
Anyway I got a huge pump out of the rep work, even if I really didn’t make the 20 rep maxes. I may bastardize his program a bit to suit my training desires and the limitation of my gym. I guess I should have read the article better. I was doing 4 sets rather than 3. (It’s a wonder I even got a degree in college!)
I guess it’s off to finish the Christmas shopping. Hope y’all have a great weekend!
Hope everything is going well with your father Willy, that shit can be scary. Your training is still looking great! Best to and your family through the holidays Buddy. Oh, if it helps you feel better at all,we had 10 inches of snow yesterday here in W. Michigan, and forecasted to get another 8 inches tomorrow with highs in the teens, 30 mile an hour winds, creating 4 foot drifts.

Thanks for the warm wishes DZ. I am damn glad we are not having that stuff here!
Standing Military Press: 105x6, 2x115x6, 115x4
T-bar Row: 4x135x6
Lat Pull down: 4X170X6
Lat Raise: 90x6, 105x6, 2x105x5
Bent Row: 2x135x6, 2x155x6
Face Pull: 45x12, 3x65x12
Albeit sore from yesterday’s rep fest, I had a solid back and shoulder day today. I have to put pull ups back in. I don’t know how I left those out…ha-ha. It will be interesting to see how sore I am in the morning.
I think I’m going to bake a ham and make a ham stock for collard greens today. For some reason I have a taste for them. I will be cooking collards New Years day, along with black-eyed peas and cornmeal dumplings. I guess Emeril had it right when he said “Pork fat rules!”
