Fat, Bald, and D@%n Near 50

So y’all know I’m not lying.

Monday Morning Workout - Shenzhen China

Dumb bell complex 5x5
Elliptical machine: 20 minutes

Dateline: China 6a.m. The Chinese gym attendant thought I had lost my mind by set 5. I KNEW I had lost my mind at set 3. I had to resort to dumb bell ccomplexes. while this gym has more Precor machines than you can shake a stick at, no free weight barbells.

So I proceeded to whip my ass with a 30# set of dumbbells. A complex consisted of 5 high pulls, 5 box squats, 5 OH press, 5 box squats, and 5 dbell rows. Needless to say I’m whipped. I decided to engage some personal torture with the elliptical.

Off for some breakfast and then to meet with factory managers. Should be an interesting day. Good 'ole redneck willy in amongst 10 million Chinese. I think they know I ain’t from 'round here.

“An American Redneck in China”. Gerswin’s dead so we get Skynyrd to write the music. Naw, Sweet Home Shenzhen just don’t sound right. Just try an blend in and they’ll never notice you. Kinda stoop over a lot.
Glad you’re managing to get some work outs in. Hope all goes well.

Great to see that you are still getting the workouts in. Even here in the states, you get some funny looks when doing any type of complex work.

Let us know what your breakfast was. I am sure the local cuisine can be very interesting?

Despite your heavy workout schedule, make sure to get out there and sell some stuff…

That looks neat. I just found that the super gym in the city rec center set only has machines. My little satellite, which has weights and dumb bells and such is actually a much better facility for weights.

Tuesday Morning Workout - Shenzhen, China

Dumbbell complex: 5x5
Treadmill interval: 24 minutes

Damn, I was sore from yesterday! That little 30 lb set of dumbbells kicked my ass! But the treadmill intervals finished me off.

I could go into how culturally different the east is from the west, but I have seen some remarkable similarities. But I’m no China scholar so my thoughts are more general observations. While in Vietnam I was over whelmed by the scooters. Here its the shipping containers. And riding in the passenger side I had many a close encounter with the rear tandem of a container going to the port or to a factory yesterday! I think I am on a rather intimate basis with the shipping containers. Because more than once I said…“Oh shit…I’m screwed!”

3 more days. I think I’m going to ride with my eyes closed.

Anything good to eat over there? All noodles and pork? Any complex like you’re doing looks easy on paper but in reality is very difficult and humbling.

The food at this fancy hotel sucks Eco. But out in Gouangong we ate this fish today. It was very spicy and flavorful. I was the only round eyed american these folks had seen in a while!

McDonalds was right down the street as well.

No training this morning, dammit.

I was up late last night trying to arrange logistics with my peeps in the States. Between my wife and daughter being too much alike and at each other’s throats, getting the crew at my brother’s plant thinking differently about exports, getting my people to think differently about a specific product we can make, and me being excited about making progress, I got very little Ambein induced sleep.

Now I’m off to play dodge passenger with the 10 gazillion shipping containers that clog the roads. Should be fun!

The latest thing in cardio: Shipping Container Chicken!

JW,
Glad to hear you are fighting the fight. Way to go. I’m getting close to the big 50 and it is bugging the shit outa me. Don’t know why yet, age hasn’t been a big deal so I’m trying to figure out why now? I was over there (China) 15 years ago and had a fine time. Probably horse and buggy compared to what you have now.

No MickieD or WallyWorld then. Ate a pepper coated steak that was still cooking on the cast iron skillet. Had a few strange meals, for me, when I was inland too. Any way, congrads on the pullups. I find them very satisfying, up there with the squat and deadlift. Be Well,

way to keep a few workouts in there jw. it is very hard to do while u r travelling. that fish meal looks great. hope all goes well over there.

Thursday Morning workout, Shenzhen

Dumbbell complex: 5x30x5
Treadmill: 20 minutes

Last day in China. The third day of many for complexes. I will return to the barbell complex when I get home. I like the front squat part of the exercise.

I have 2 important meetings today. Then its back to the hotel by 4 and clean up for an airplane flight home at midnight. I’m not exciting about the flight. It has been a reasonably successful trip. I sold lumber more than I got turned down. Met some good steady potential customers. Fond out I like Hunan food, and only have 1 day left of dodging the shipping containers and the busses. Yesterday we had a few close encounters of a double decker bus kind…

I’m not excited about the flight home. But I am damn sure excitied about getting home!

My Best to all!

I’m impressed you kept training on the road.

Food kinda looks like what the wife cooks up here. Rule of thumb; If ain’t movin, taste it first, if it’s still movin, swallow quick. Sounds like you’re trip was successful and you still managed to get your workouts in. Good deal.

Good job on all accounts, Willy!

Safe travels home!

Cappy

Sitting in Hong Kong airport. What an intresting place southern China is. Driving thru Hong Kong at dusk with a full moom rising was a humbling sight. Wish I had snapped a photo.

Best to all. Can’t wait to be back in the gym Saturday.

Safe travels J!

Saturday morning workout…Back in NC

Dumb bell press: 85x10, 85x6, 85x8
Floor Press: 205x10, 225x7, 225x8
Speed Bench in the Smith: 2x225x5x5, 225x5x3
Bent Row: 135x10, 155x8, 155x7
Barbell Complex: 5x65x5
Treadmill 15 minutes

It’s good to be back in the gym. I dropped the dumb bell on my pec, thought the work/gym spouse was going to stroke! All is well. It was good to be able to push the workout harder. Speed bench was 5 reps with a 15 second pause and 5 more reps. I used the Eco technique of a rolled up gym towel to simulate boards. Complex consists of snatch pulls, military press, squat and row.

After 40 plus hours of working, flying, driving, and only a few hours of sleep I needed this workout!
