Hey just started reading this thread. Way to go. I totally understand where you are coming from. I was in a similar situation a couple of years back. My wife was also resistant for the same reasons afraid that hubby has found someone else. My experience was that after some reassurance she kind of chilled out. I also think another fear is that if you get in shape then you'll expect her to get in shape and she's kind of happy not being in shape. I don't know if that applies to you or not.
But what I discovered was that after a I lost some flab and built some muscle our sex life got better. Women are strange creatures. They will claim that they are not nearly as shallow and superficial as we men. They will claim that they don't care about the "physical." But I guarantee you, lose some weight and build some muscle and it will restoke those nuptial fires.
Glad I could at least get y’alls eyes rolling. Honestly This is pretty a cool forum to sound out ideas as well as be held accountable.
Sir_tris, you have made a helluva transformation, I hope I can come close to your success. Bunny, my old friend made me a lot better football player. In fact if I had taken a scholarship at a small school it would have been because I had to practice against this guy.
I have always tried to surround myself with better athletes or smarter business people. I have the theory that I can either bring myself up to their game, or more likely I’ll bring them down to my game!
Oh and DD, my wife is more understanding, at least she doesn’t think I am having an affair! She is still challenged by my “diet” but hell with out chaos there is no order.
Damn I am waxing to philosophical! I need a drink, but its not on my diet today…
Wow.The Barbie gym was a busy little place this morning. There were 9 of us in there. The soccer mom teacher ladies. The trainer dude was with a client, the high school principle was wasting space and talking to folks, and a few more patrons that wander in and out. Unfortunately my weekday morning workouts are under a time limit, so I really don’t have the time to work in sets at different stations. I abbreviated my normal work and tried to train a little harder.
I had to pass on the inclines, a soccer mom teacher lady was in her “fall back” training mode because of the 5 a.m. surge. She works hard and will spot me, so no moving her out. The Principle comes in more in the morning to watch TV and sit on a machine, He was busy discussing “No Child Left Behind” legislation with another teacher lady. They had the cable thingy all occupied. I just turned up my Ipod,as not to get drawn in that one. and believe it or not, a cat was in the smith machine doing high pulls and then teacher lady had moved to leg presses.
I called it a morning. I broke a nice sweat. I will try again Friday Morning I guess. I have to carry my Dad to a function in Virginia, for the day, so I may have to switch training days. Oh and no mindless drivel from j_willy on Wed. I have to go to my monthly Expensive Ass Group Therapy for CEO’s. I get held accountable there too!
Thanks Elaikases, I guess it has been a fast 4 month journey.
Had a meeting out of town today so no this morning. Even if all I missed was cardio work it sucked not being at the gym. Still we had a good meeting and my peers hold me accountable for my workouts as well as the those of you that read my drivel.
Tomorrow I’m going to try to get my weight workout in. I have to take my Dad on a trip to an industry trade show Friday. He gets to see all his peers. He really enjoys that since he realizes he is in the twilight of his career. Its my job to drive and hold the literature he picks up.

I ended up carrying forty pounds of literature per bag in more than one bag that way once. Hope it goes well.
Hahahaha! I have done it too! The funniest thing is we NEVER get thru the show for his visiting. I hope I am that respected after almost 60 years in the business.

Dammit to hell…forgot to set the alarm clock and over slept this morning. 2 days with no workout. I’m dying and gone to hell!!
I may try to go tonite.[/quote]
Or, carry those sample bags. You can work in a set here and there just as if they were dumbbells.
Wish you the best on getting your sets in.
By the way, one thing I got from a friend was what he called “eating clean” which meant no sugar and no white flour. He only lost a pound or so a month when he did that, but after a while it added up.
It hasn’t really made much of a difference in my weight loss (I was eating non-fat yogurt with sugar the whole time I was losing weight), but dropping sugar out of my diet makes me feel better.
That is what I am doing, no flour, no sugar, no potatoes (white or sweet), no white rice. From Jan 1 till today I have lost 28.8 lbs, or about 4 -5 lbs a month.
Recently I started eating my carbs in the morning, (oatmeal)and sugar free, low carb yogurt. Then I am veggies and protein heavy at dinner (lunch for most of the non-southerners) and supper. That seems to be working a lot better and the weight seems to be shedding a touch quicker.
BTW Dr Gott, the newspaper columnist has a no flour no sugar diet book, you can order thru his column. It has really good recipes. My mother outlaw bought it for me when I was about 297 lbs…

Ditto that about the carbs in the morning. When I’m strict with the carbs I can drop 4-5 lbs a month as well.
Back in the gym today for some light cardio. I had intentions of lifting a little bit, but a couple of guys that occasionally do a really heavy bench routine were in the Barbie gym and they had 475 lbs of the available 600 lbs of plates. Oh and one key component, they were using the sole bench!
I opted for the elliptical instead. So after about 40 mins I called it quits. I had worked up a good sweat and it actually felt good after 3 days of no training!
Tomorrow is lifting day. I’m anxious to get back under the bar. I feel all out of kilter by missing a weight day this week. Maybe I will have a good Sunday workout. It will be my last weight day at the Barbie Gym. I’m moving over to a different one that has an area set up for “weightlifters” (not that I am one either, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn this week). The gym owner is weightlifter friendly and a Harley enthusiast as well…This might turn out to be good fun…

Hey - that sounds great! A weight lifter friendly gym is just the place to train with people who might help push you along a bit.
You know I’ve always wanted a Harley but My daughter goes into college this fall and the wife is going back to college and my son follows in four years. So I don’t believe I’m getting a Harley any time in the next 10 years…
I kind of wish I hadn’t squandered mine away all those years ago. I spent way too much time drinking beer and chasing girls while only doing enough to get by. Drove my parents CRAZY!! 25 years later and I’m finally getting around to applying all that college stuff…
I went to bed early and slept in. But the wife’s snoring in my ear from 2:30a.m. to 4a.m. helped with the sleeping in.
My “last” weight day at the Barbie Gym. Tomorrow I go sign up at a more weightlifter friendly place, with a bunch more room. I’m looking forward to it.
My “work spouse” (a woman I have worked with longer than she has been married, both times combined) told the owner about me and had him call. I’m hooked and haven’t stepped thru the door of the facility. But after looking thru the window this morning I know I will be in good shape. The guy has 4 benches!
Total time in gym 45 minutes. Kinda pleased with the work today. Added some weights and sets. Maybe I was fired up about leaving. Maybe I was trying to work harder to “make up” for the missed workout earlier in the week, I don’t know. I do know I have never had a bad Sunday morning workout at the Barbie Gym. Of course there has never been anyone there Sunday morning either.
Well I have to get breakfast going. Egg white omlette for me, Rolls, cream, grits, bacon, and fried eggs for the family. Then its off to the outlaws to meet the SIL’s newest boyfriend…ugh Maybe I’ll ride the Harley!
Bein ah protect ah dee suthern skool stystem eye cunkur. Ain’t nutin liken a goode edumakation.
Poundage increase on the lifts, oh yeah. Lot of volume there.
There is nothing like the right gym and atmosphere to get you motivated. If for no other reason having a spotter lets you push yourself harder and try for that extra rep. Hope gym turns out to be right for you.
You are gonna be really motivated Willy, and will make good gains. Just stay away from the “social butterflies” of the gym… they will ruin your workouts. You will know what I mean…
