Fat, Bald, and D@%n Near 50

Mixed bag today. Woke up and stepped on the scales and I weighed 238. I think I was 35 when I weighed that last. Went to the gym, couldn’t get motivated. I had to lay some guys off today, I think that was weighing on my mind.

…Damn I need more coffee!! [/quote]

Every time I see “Fat, Bald, and D@%n Near 50” it makes me think of myself when I finally got back to lifting and it makes me smile since I got so far compared to where I was. I still remember getting down to 210 (I started at 265, slowly got to 245 and started getting serious).

Sorry about having to go through the layoffs. That is so hard, all the way around.

Sorry about the layoffs too. It’s tough letting people go. I’m seeing it every week lately where I work. I’m expecting to be next any day now.

Good work, JWilly, through this bit of a rough patch. Gettin’ it done at 5am is something else.

Waiting til it’s time to go to the college for Friday night torture so as I read this thread I had one of those moments we must all have at one time or another on here. You read something you really can’t relate to.

Though we share lifting in common we all come from diverse backgrounds. (What the hell’s he going on about, now?) Lay offs. 30 years military and now post office. I’ve never had to worry about not having a job or losing one.

I’ve had to discipline troops and even had to kick some out but I’ve never had to really tell someone “sorry, no more job” or had to worry about someone saying it to me. Guess it makes me feel kind of naive.

My respect just went up for you people who have to worry about job security and still keep working out. Ok, end of really weird post.

Weirdo.

I’ve had to recommend some one be let go (they really weren’t working out) and I’ve been fired myself after a nightmare two months of increasing demands for better job performance and scathing, unjustified criticism of my job performance.

The manager was actually trying to get me to quit by overworking me and criticizing everything I was doing. He wanted to consolidate my position into that of two other workers. I managed the increased workload and he finally decided to fire me for “not having the proper attitude.”

I worked graveyard alone, so I’m not certain who I was disturbing - all my communications were professional and I was always polite to my manager when he came in as I was leaving. His viewpoint might be different, he may have been telling the truth from his perspective…but it sure was uncomfortable at the time.

I’m truly glad that you don’t have to worry about those things. It certainly makes it easier to be a decent human being to others…something this world needs more of.

T’ain’t fair out here sometimes, but what are ya gonna do?

Hang in there J. Oh yeah I hate cardio too. That’s why you see it lacking most days in my routine. And look on the bright side you have a hot chick looking at your blog.

Hel and Skid, I really appreciate your perspective. This was a trying and stressful time for me. You see I have been at this place for 20 years. In all that time I have had to fire a bunch, I have had swings taken at me, knives pulled on me, the sheriff came out and escorted me around for a day because a former employee was supposedly coming down to “shoot my ass”.

Everyone I let go was because of “just causes”. This was a first for me because we just didn’t have the work. We didn’t need the extra maintenance man, the part time machine operators, or the forklift driver. It was hard, because I always pride myself in getting more out of less. I have been able to maximize people’s strong points and limit exposure of their weak points. This time the economy was greater than my ability.

Sat.Morning Cardio 5:45 AM

Machine crunches: 3x80x30
Treadmill 40 minutes

Slept in this morning, a whole 40 minutes longer. Not much to report. No one likes this gym early on the weekend mornings. Maybe I’m just a little crazy.

Called the asshole doc about my condition. He is booked up thru September. Must be an awful lot of screwed up asses in this area. This cat is supposed to the the “first team” doc. Now I have to decide if I want to take a chance on a “second team” doc.

I made the mistake of settling for a second teamer when my wife had me neutered. THAT turned out to be quite an experience! I get a mile of laughs when I recant the story these days. Still the bastard hurt me and if that doc stood between life and death for me, well they had better book me a spot in the funeral home! I don’t want a repeat experience “just around the corner”!

Going to help my Dad at the beach. Looks like a nice day is shaping up. Hope y’all have a nice weekend!

No kidding. You might be able to sweet talk them into watching for cancellations for you. All docs get them, and if you have schedule flexibility, you might find yourself in to see the doctor next week.

Take the staff a plate of brownies or cookies and drop in and ask them to keep you on the list for short notice cancellations.

Sunday Morning 5:40 a.m.

Weighted machine crunches: 3x80x45
Treadmill: 40 minutes

Cardio day, Still hate it, always will. There I said it! But I attempted to sleep in and 5:20 is a max effort! Oh well I enjoy the gym in the morning.

Between the Weather Channel, my IPod, and ESPN’s college football preview I kept my mind occupied during treadmill hell

Things I took note of this morning:

Cheryl Lempke of TWC slightly changed her hair style recently. What is it about these “F” hurricanes that make so much rain? Fay currently for my brethren in the deep south, Fran and Floyd up here over the last few years. Kirk Herbstreet is a Big 10, apologist even with the sound off. Lou Holtz is a character, and Lee Courso is completely irrelevant.

Oh and Autumn is fast bearing down, the Osprey left this week…I am anxiously awaiting their return, the first sign that spring would be approaching.

45 crunches, that is a heck of a way to start cardio …

Started to post this morning and the day caught up to me early. All the kids start school tomorrow.Off to the walmart, etc.!!!

The cardio is a part of your training that I need in mine.I was thinking about 20 mins. post training.

Jimmy, typically I’m doing 15 to 20 mins after I weight day. My non weight days I go for the 40 mins.

Monday Morning workout

Bench Press: 135WU, 205WU, 5x245x5
Incline BP: 135x10, 155x8, 155x6
Machine Flies: 150x10, 150x8
Treadmill: 15 minutes

Short workout today. I had to take the daughter to school for her first day. She begins 5th grade. 47 with a 5th grader…what was I thinking 10 years ago?? UGH!

I made my 5x5 on the benches. I think I’ll bump to 255 for the next “cycle” While I like the 5x5 I’m undecided about continuing down this vein for moving back to a more old schoolish declining rep, increasing weight method.

Damn, another sign of impending Autumn. The Juniper trees that live in the river are changing color. YUK!

The only good thing of Fall is the start of football. And my mighty Mountaineers of ASU are headed to the real Death Valley in Baton Rouge to take on LSU. Les Miles won’t over look ASU like Lloyd Carr did. Hope The Apps can keep the game decent!

Me too E. I wouldn’t trade her for a dime, but you couldn’t pay me $100,000,000 bucks to have another.

looking strong J. 5x5 is a great worout. It can get old though. I’ve been changing up reps and % max each week for over a month now. Hasn’t gotten old yet.

My heart couldn’t take it.

Your bench is getting strong. I’ve always liked the 5x5 but get bored real easy like eco. You just made me feel old remembering the last times I had to take my boys to class. New I was getting older when teacher’s started looking younger. Good luck to your team down at the Red Pole.

Tuesday morning workout

Assisted Chin Ups: BW-125x8
Dumb bell MP: 50x10, 2x50x8,
MP Partials in the Smith: 90x12, 90x10, 90x8
Lat pull down machine: 3x130x10
Seated Row: 3x125x10
Treadmill: 15 minutes

I guess the workout was OK. It looks better on paper than it felt. Slept like crap last night. I had a long time employee fall off a chip van and break his wrist and hip. It’s an unfortunate freak accident that I have been trying to manage and prevent a re-occurrence. I guess It has my focus preoccupied.

Tomorrow is supposed to be an off day, but I’m planning to do some triceps work. I have to go on a trip Thursday.
