Great work the last few days…250 for 2X on the bench, you are making me look bad. I will have a max. effort upper body day on Thursday morning. Thank you for the motivation.

First the daughter had a sleepover last night. Thank GOD for Ambien. I was only up twice with them and was able to drop back off the sleep!
The workout was not remarkable. Did some Tates for the first time. I like them and will up the weight next time. All and all it was a solid workout. I guess I was in “grind it out mode” and that is what I did.
Oh, and Jeff Morrow is still an ugly dude to spend your waking hours with. I too, am no morning prize!
Your “view” (i.e. grind it out) will change soon… perhaps you need a change, make it fun for a bit… take a look at Eco’s routine lately. Looks like he has having a good time.
Googled this Jeff Morrow guy… kinda looks like a chubby Toucan bird, eh?
Dead lift: 135x10, 185x10, 205x10
Leg Curl: 65x10, 85x10, 85x10
Leg Press 3x165x10
DBell Row: 3x65x10
I’ve never been much of a dead lift, leg work guy. You can tell by this log I guess. Still It felt good to pull 205. I have 225+ pulls in me. I used the old rusty bar in the corner, not the fancy chrome one. Seems my grip is a lot better with the old ugly bar. I guess that kind of goes along with me!
I had a workout ‘partner’. My work spouse wandered in the gym this morning. She wanted to learn the rows and the dead lifts. She is a strong skinny woman, dead lifting 100 lbs with excellent form her first time out! It was pretty cool. She has gone from yoga to elliptical machine to weights in 4 months.
Tomorrow is a cardio day and Saturday is bench day. I don’t think I’m going to do max effort day Saturday. I think I’m just going to get the sets and reps in.
Way to stay with the DL. Funny how such a small thing like a favorite bar or a certain bench can make a difference, but it does.
It is always fun to see someone new to the iron game excel very quickly. Some people just have a natural ability to lift weight. Did I mention how much I hate those people?

Good lifting, bro. I’ve never been one for high reps on the deads. If you’re doin 205 for 10 you definitely got more than 225 in you. [/quote]
I agree with Hel… and according to my calculations (ok ok… the computers) your one rep max will be 275. I will go further and say… without tiring yourself first, 300 lbs is in ya.
Had to pass on spending the morning with Jeff and Jen on the Weather Channel I found a repeat of the ASU vs. Delaware 1AA Championship game on some pirated channel on the satellite. Got to re-live the glory of being an alum of the 3 time 1AA Nat Champs. Plus I’m all prepped for LSU to kick our asses in the college football opener this fall.
Also was reminded of how shitty the officiating was in that game. I hate poorly officiated football on any level
Per Bunny and Ironman’s suggestion I changed the order of today’s session around. I had no intentions of going over 225 in the bench. I was shooting for a 5x5 there. BUT missed a rep on a set, got a sip of water, got the rep on the next set. SO…Willy said (yes I went 3rd person, ugh) WTF lets try 250 again. BAMMO!! 4 easy reps! It felt good, and I had a few more 250# sets in me but I decided to move on. Of course, I couldn’t do a weighted dip by the time I got around to them.
My Rows were done as superset, I was really out of gas by that time. Still I walked out feeling good about today’s session.
As an aside, I have never been scientific with my lifting. Even years ago I just did ‘shit’. Every session was a max effort day and I didn’t know about active de-loads. We just had lazy weeks. It’s pretty cool how most of the guys around here have a very analytical process of tailoring their workouts. I am learning a new approach to my workouts. For the first time in my training life, this 4 day thing seems like it works. I never could figure it out when I was young, dumb, and full of…well male hormones. So I’m thinking my next bench day will fall next Friday…Maybe I can get a stationary bike rider to give me a spot.
Enough of my waxing philosophic. Y’all have a good weekend.

You too. On those bench numbers you are entitled to one.

Ok, I be lovin the analytical approach. I will begin imploying it immediately.
Really great benching. You are definitely up to “shes got a great personality strong” and headin for ugly.
Smith Squats (no damn squat rack): 135x10, 185x8, 185x6
Leg curls: 3x80x10
Leg extensions: 3x35x10
Dead lift: 135x8, 185x5, 205x5, 225x3, 245x3
Treadmill 12 minutes
JEEZ!! Went to bed at midnight last night. Absolutely didn’t want to get up this morning. Upon reflection during the ride to the gym I realized I really wanted a big bench press and a big power clean. So in my unmotivated state I decided to switch my power cleans scheduled for today with the dead lifts. I think it will work out better that way.
Workout intensity was OK. I had more in me on the dead lifts. I just figured 245 was a good stopping place. Plus I had t come home and cook Willy’s Sunday family breakfast feast. Which I better get cracking. The spousal unit and our offspring will be string soon!
