Fat, A Smoker, and Out of Gym

Talking about a massive heart attack… one where you immidiately lose consciousness, go into cardiac arrest and die. Such an experience is typically painless and can occur during sleep. That or an unexpected gunshot to the back of the head (shotgun blast, don’t want to leave chances) would be my preferred ways to go, at least with these instances (I don’t want to die… not by a long shot, just listing the preferred ways I’d like to go out if it was to occur now)

Both are sudden and absent of pain

May I ask why you were drinking drano? Suicide attempt or accidental

No. You seem to have a creepy weird death fetish and I’m talking about actual life threatening events.

But, long story short–somebody put it in a whiskey bottle and I took a big swig.

Lol there’s no death fetish, on the contrary I’m terribly afraid of the concept regarding my own mortality, hence if I were to go i’d prefer I didn’t know about it. The scary part primarily stems from not knowing what comes afterwards… I assume it’s just emptiness/nothing, and it’s terrifying to think my insignificant speck of a life could be over so soon with absolutely no impact on the greater reality around me. I don’t fear death per se, I fear not knowing for sure what happens afterwards

And I’m sorry you had to undergo such a terrifying experience, that’s super fucked up

You know post history is a thing, right?

You’ve literally been saying this exact same thing since 2004 when you were a child, and the same in 2008, and the same in 2009, and the same in 2010. You’re a grown adult now. Start acting like one.

Well i went to a gym and signed up for a year contract aĺl i knew how to do was use a cardio machine for twenty five minutes. Then i used some free weights while this total super hot asian girl worked out, i was distracted. Mostly i realized how rolly polly fat i was which means its going to take at least six months to get anywhere and ill have to get a nutritional game plan. I still smoke a little which is a problem. Mostly i have gym membership thats a place to start so i can go after work. To be honest i have no idea what im doing in the gym at least ill exercise thats all i know.

That’s the place to start. Also…focus on one thing at a time. I’m a smoker and I’m still stronger and in better shape than 99% of the population, because irrespective of my smoking habits I still make an effort to get stronger. It can happen.

Focus on walking, compound lifting, eating better, and losing some weight. Then, if you want to, kick the cigarettes. But if you try to do everything at once, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

Also, stop beating yourself up. That helps nothing, I’ve been there. Instead, be better so you can feel better about being who you are.

What is compound lifting please?

Thanks

This is gold, right here.

Multi joint exercises.

OP:
In my experience, the no.1 thing you need to do is create good habits. Get into the habit of exercising in some way. Get some nutritional habits that you can do day in day out for years at a time, and that cover most of your issues.

Out of curiosity, if you smoke… how’s youre cardioresporatory functioning? Can you run a mile in decent time?

One of my closest friends is a smoker and is in excellent shape (aerobically and anaerobically), then again we are young, twenty years down the line the damage will be far more extensive (depending heavily on genetics)

Dude. You are literally on a forum for a site that has all the information you could ever need then you ask a question like this. The main piece of advice you need to follow is this: you need to put some work into it. Whether that is your diet, your smoking, you Asian Girl fetish or your workout plan…you need to pull your ass together and put an effort into it. Here, I will give you some foolproof tips:

Eat less. Yeah, should should also eat different shit, but goal number one is just to eat less.

Do. Not. Run. Everyone thinks they need to run, most people don’t need to. Obese people should never do it, it will lead you to misery. If you are going to do any real cardio, try an eliptical (no impact on joints) or beat the shit out of a heavy bag.

Deadlift. Squat. Bench. Overhead Press. Pull-up (or some rowing variation). Research them. Learn them. Do them. Do them some more. Do them some more. Do them some more. Get proficient at all of these things. Become great at them. Set a few achievable goals, and a few seemingly impossible ones. Go after them. Ask advice. Follow advice. Watch videos. All of this is waaaaaaay better than cardio, and arguably more enjoyable.

That’s it. Sure, you should quit smoking and improve the quality of your meals, etc. But step one is to pull your head out of your ass and START.

I started my own journey as a 37 year-old overweight smoker. I know of what I speak.

I haven’t tried in a while, but probably not. I can do high-rep lifting with no problem, but running is a different animal.

My best ever mile time was 5:55, I ran that my freshman year at 14. 3.5 years removed from track and 30 pounds heavier…maybe my mile is 7:30 - 8:00 if I bust my ass and reconcile myself with puking after the whole thing is over.

And yeah. I know I’m committing slow suicide, I just don’t care all that much (although I wish I’d never started in the first place).

Exactly - everyone has to start somewhere. OP, listen to this guy.

Like chemical compounds are different elements held together as one, compound lifts are many movements performed as one.

After skimming your post history, here are some that would be beneficial for you:
