Fasted Cardio Question

Has anyone tried taking BCAAs or whey protein and then running or doing something else pretty intense? I’ve started running a couple of mornings a week, not for fat loss necessarily but that would be a nice side effect. I think I’d puke if I drank a whey shake before going for a run, but then again, I’ve never tried it.
BCAA’s before lifting yes, but I always fuel weekly sprints sessions with good quality carbs BEFOREHAND

Finibars work like magic, and I also mixing up a sweet potato with greek yogurt. Both options digest quick and then you’re good-to-go

edit - just to add, I think its a mistake to focus on “fat loss” as the primary goal when doing HIIT stuff. Instead, the proper goal should be u performance and then the fat loss will take care of itself. Hence the emphasis placed on preworkout nutrition. IMO

I’m confused by this part of the OP: “Does anybody do it by itself in place of all other types of training”

Do you mean does anyone use this exclusively for conditioning work? If so, then I think the answer would be no. It has it’s purpose…but I don’t think anyone does it exclusively.
I interpreted that as him asking if any of us know of people who use fasted cardio exclusively…so obviously relatives, friends, etc. outside of the BB/PL community.

jskrabac, I have yet to actually read one of your posts. For some reason I keep getting distracted…

Tried a balance bar before my run this weekend and I felt much better throughout. No stomach issues at all. When I run out of those, I’ll switch to the finibars.

Wow, this actually turned into a somewhat intelligent discussion after I ignored it for a while. It’s amazing what happens when BBB enters a discussion because he has established internet credibility… Anyway, I want to comment on something someone said a while ago… that you have to do weight training and cardio to burn fat… as if they were separate entities. Why not do both at the same time? You need your heart for everything.

Cardio isn’t anything special and shouldn’t be put in a category on its own. You can get your HR up and keep it up over 140 or 160 for an hour with weight training if you are 1) In good shape; 2) Program the right exercises in the right order; and 3) Program rest intervals properly.

Tim Ward gives a bunch of different examples of exercises/programs for getting cardio and resistance training in at the same time (like barbell complexing) in The Theory of Fat Loss. Complexes, supersetting, KB swings, low rep/high load mini circuits, exercises with a high center of gravity… etc.

I know that guy! Seriously…he was my trainer when I first got into lifting.
