I think I’m mostly fast twitch. Everytime I train heavy 4-6 reps on all lifts I feel I respond best and grow. When I do 10+ reps I get a great pump during workout and look big but overall after training like that for a few weeks I think I get smaller. Is that because I’m fast twitch or because I’m natural?
Thanks
lol bro didn’t we talk about this in the other thread??
you should try layers think you will gain tremendously
Well could be many factors.
The only three things that could make you “smaller” while training hard are:
- Excess cortisol that leads to more muscle breakdown than muscle building
- Glycogen depletion (which can be due to excessive volume, caloric deficit or both)
- Lowered muscle tone making the muscles appear smaller and softer
Real muscle loss is only in the the first case. And maybe that is your case. And yes, of course, naturals are more at risk of losing muscle due to high cortisol levels.
The second case is likely the most plausible (maybe a combination of 2 and 3): if you do high rep/high volume work you use up more gycogen which could reduce glycogen stores making the muscles look less full. If you combine that with the lower muscle tone that will come with a decrease in CNS activation you might have your answer.
Here’s the question: when you get back to heavier lifting how long does it take to look big again? To get back to your original strength levels? If it’s 3 weeks or less, then you didn’t lose muscle while doing the low volume work.
Thank you for that! It usually is about 2 or 3 weeks and I feel like I’m back to muscles looking fuller and harder outside of the gym. And strength is back about that time as well.
Ok, so it’s likely just lowered glycogen stores and decreased muscle tone
