Farmers Log

That’s beautiful scenery. Looks like an ideal location for a nice nap.

River looks really low there–you must be having as little rain as we are over on dartmoor, my normal swimming hole is almost at knee-banging bare bones level.

Those were some good looking squats Brett. You are really killing the volume here.

Five sets of squatting 264 lbs for 10 reps straight were tougher than you expected? That would put the average gym rat in the ER. You’re tough.

Oh, the river is gorgeous. I used to bike a lot many years ago. Sigh.

Its up now go feel the pain.

when you squat that deep, whatever you are listening to becomes hardcore by association

very nice work

you have great form- nice squatting.

need to think about this volume approach.

damn you are a crazy good squatter. really smooth. fuck sets of 10. i’m already crying about the 6x6 i gotta do tomorrow :frowning:

punnyguy - I’m very lucky living where I do. There’s loads of places like that all around me.

BN - We have had much less rainfall this year than we normally would that’s for sure. The rivers around here react really quickly to the rainfall. A few days without rain and they’re barely a trickle, a day of torrential rain and they’re bursting their banks within hours. Where I took the photo from (a man made weir of large boulders) the water was at least 6 ft deep, ideal for a swim if it weren’t so cold (17c), if only we’d gone on Friday when it was 25c.

Joe - I’m enjoying the volume and despite doing a load of total ‘tonnage’, because the weights are low I can feel like I’ve worked without feeling like I’ve been run over by a truck, which is nice.

Cav - You should take up cycling again. Studies show that cyclists live longer than non- cyclists. Assuming they don’t end up under a bus of course.

Dude - Watched it. Much respect.

MJ - Thanks buddy.

Kevin - The volume is all very well and I know I’m working fairly hard, but I’m having a hard time dealing with my squat numbers starting with a 2. It’s hard on the old ego.

Alexus - I have every confidence you’ll nail that 6x6.

Brett, one of my interests is wild swimming, this year has been really poor because of spectacularly low river levels here. Our rivers that come off the moor go up and down like a whores drawers.

Last year i swam every month gradually getting used to lower water temperatures, amazingly addictive when you get into it–17 c would be considered as too warm by some of the hardcore winter swimmers. !!

Shoulder w/u

Band pull aparts x 20
Band dislocates x 20
Band pull aparts x 20
Band dislocates x 20

Wide Grip Pulldowns @ 99 lbs x 10-10-10-10-8

Incline Barbell Bench Press @ 154 lbs x 10-10-10-10-10

Bent Over Barbell Rows @ 132 lbs x 10-10-10-10-10

Standing DB Press @ 53 lbs x 7-7-7-7-7

Barbell Shrugs @ 242 lbs x 10-10-10

Face Pulls @ 88 lbs x 10-10-10

Did the shoulder w/u straight through with no rest between. Massive pump. Left my shoulders feeling as greased as a piece of hot butter on an oiled banana skin. Awesome.

Thought I’d properly test out my shoulder tonight. Upped the inclines 22 lbs to 154 and the DB presses 12 lbs to 53 pounders. They felt really good, no twinges at all. I think I’m back in the game and can start lifting heavier again, hooray.

I’ve learnt my lesson though, I think my over reliance on barbell exercises allowed my shoulder ‘stabiliser’ muscles to weaken over time, my first set of DB overhead presses was all over the bloody place, I just couldn’t keep them in the groove at all, now after a few weeks of unilateral work my form is much, much better. I’m going to keep some DB work in there all the time from now on.

A vid of my last set of inclines. I bet you’re all jealous of my ‘set up’, a rickety flat bench propped up on a wooden box. If I stop posting unexpectedly you’ll know the bloody thing has finally folded up on me!

keep up the good work Farmer.

i try overhead pressing with dumbbells occasionally and am fairly surprised at how wobbly and all over the place i am compared to the barbell version, too. think i might need to put some time in with dumbbell work. squats are starting to feel a-symmetric, too.

6x6 was surprisingly not too bad.

read the earlier part of your log where you did the RSR (came up on site search). damn that 4x4. i’m worrying about that now… that is some crazy perseverance to push through it on the second bounce… well done indeed. maybe i’ll set the video up, just in case.

Hey, you’ve got over a thousand entries on your thread! This calls for a celebration.

Great!!

Everyone round to mine for drinks and nibbles!

Off to do some hill sprints now and I’ve started a diet today. I’ll log later.

You must have solid brass balls to do inclines like that.

^x2, seemed to hold up really well though. Good stuff Farmer.

Lol…indeed. Good stuff, Brett.

Also, great pic. That is beautiful scenery. Good for the soul.

Big nurse - I like a bit of wild swimming myself IN THE SUMMER, but you’ve got to have a screw loose to do it in the winter!

Bulldog - Thanks, I’m going to start cranking up the poundage now my shoulder’s better.

Alexus - I remember that 4 x 4 day clearly, one of my toughest workouts ever, I really thought I’d blown it on that last set. I’m sure you’ll do fine on the 4 x 4, a bit of fear about the next w/o is healthy, I’d be more worried if you weren’t a little fearful because it would mean your weights were too light.

Joe, dday and strick - Needs must on the bench unfortunately. It’s not as dangerous as it looks. It can’t slide forward because it’s touching the wall and it can’t slide back, all it could do is buckle. But it seems fairly strong, the hardest thing is not sliding down it because it is straight and doesn’t have the seat bit at the bottom.

Hill Sprints - 35 yds x 10

Filmed them tonight to post. Worked extra hard because of it. Left much less rest time between sprints than I normally would. Finished, went back to the camera and it had switched off after the first one! F###ing typical!

Started a fat loss diet today. I’m fed up of being too embarassed to take my shirt off or wear a vest in public. So I’m going to do something about it.

I’m not going to count calories or take measurements, I’m just going to go by the mirror. I’m going to go low carb 3 days in a row, then a high carb, higher calorie day on day 4. Protein’s mainly going to come from fish and eggs with the odd bit of meat. Having raised animals myself I’m used to having a freezer full of my own meat, but now we’ve sold our animals I don’t have that luxury. And having raised animals I’m now very fussy about husbandry standards, so I’ll only buy Organic meat which is very expensive here. So I can only afford a small amount of meat.

Today, (I started at lunchtime) I had smoked mackerel fillets, rollmops, some eggs and salad for lunch and seared tuna and green beans etc for tea. My biggest problem is thinking of things for breakfast because I’ve always been a ‘muesli man’, so any suggestions would be gratefully received. I have pretty good will power, I think how successful I am will mainly depend upon how well I plan my meals and shop in advance, it’s always when there’s nothing in the fridge that I turn to the breadbin and make bad choices.

We shall see how it goes.

Any comments on my plan would be appreciated.
