I will be going to see Thor tomorrow. It will suck. I already know I’m going anyway… sigh… damned comic book geekness ia in the genes.
Real solid front squats. I also find I lose strength on swatz REAL fast. Is the only remedy doing a (metric) s##t-ton of them?

Don’t let me put you off I’m no film critic, it’s just I wish they’d spend a small percentage of the enormous CGI budget to write a better script!. I guess I’m just sick of computer game style ‘special effects’ and a plot that was written on the back of a napkin.
Each day I sound more and more like my Dad.

x3.
I have found that doing my normal heavy training (working up to 2 x 2 or 2 x 3) augmented by a steadily increasing but manageable 3 x 5 on another day has really helped me make gains with this lift. DL is the opposite. Just can’t train it too often.
Joe, Eco - Thanks
Alexus - So what’s up with your snatches?
LS - We’re going to do a tour of Europe in our campervan first (if we can ever sell) and then hopefully buy some where out there. Right now Portugal and Greece are favourites. It does sound a bit daunting, but also exciting.
Null - If we sell up completely I’ll take all my gear. If we sell our house, but keep our cottage (on the same land, but with different deeds) and split our time between the UK and Europe, I’ll buy some new stuff out there so I can lift in either place.
C_K & KP - I’m not happy with the way my squats have dropped real quick from the reduced volume so I’m going to gradually increase it back up again to 5 x 5. I’m not so into snatching that I could accept a weaker squat.

Overhead squats
Bar x 10
88 lbs x 7
Full snatch
88 lbs x 1-1
132 lbs x 0-1-1
143 lbs x 1-1
154 lbs x 1-1-0-1
159.5 lbs x 0-0-0
Deadlift
220 lbs x 1
308 lbs x 1
396 lbs x 1
440 lbs x 1
490.5 lbs x 1 (new PR by 5.5 lbs)
GHR @ bw x 5-5-5
Overhead press @ 110 lbs x 5-5-5 (supersetted with) Face pulls @ 88 lbs x 10-10-10
Inspired by Kevin’s great deadlifts the other week I thought I’d warm up to a max attempt. After the 440 I felt great so I upped it to 5.5 lbs over my current PR and it went up OK. Not sure if I could have gotten 500 or not, probably not. I’ve realised my irrational fear of hurting my back (I’ve never really had a serious back injury, so I don’t know why I’ve got one) holds back my deadlift attempts. As soon as I feel any real lower back effort at all I bail out. Today I actually felt my lower back kicking in to lock out, but I just ignored it and carried on. If my lower back feels fine tomorrow, which I’m sure it will, I’ll hopefully learn that it’s OK to use a bit of lower back when deadlifting.
The snatches weren’t too great today, just couldn’t drop under quickly, kept catching in a half squat. Oh well, one step forward, two steps back.
Pleased with the overhead presses. Still light, but a week ago I couldn’t even take a t-shirt off over my head, so progress nonetheless.
Vid of today. Please excuse the profanity, I can’t help it. Four attempts at 154 lbs snatch, managed to hit myself on the head with the miss. Then 3 misses at 159.5 lbs. Last one doesn’t count because it was a powersnatch. Deadlift at 440 lbs then 490.5 lbs for a new PR!!
VERY f##king cool!
Hello Farmer Brett, its me the 500 DL, 490 called me and said you were looking for me, I feel you breathing down my neck!
Awesome awesome stuff man.
great lifts-
that pull was great.
your front squats look great too.
I guess we see who is pulling 500 first :))

Can we make 2.5bw instead of 500 so I have a long shot, outside chance? Actually kmcnyc, didn’t you already do 2.5?
Kidding, 500 is a cool number
FarmerBrett wrote:
All you O lifters feel free to critique it to shreds, I really wan’t to get it right.
I don’t think I’m that good at critique so I could be wrong! But the only thing I cold see is you could get a bit more of a sweep keeping your shoulders over the bar a bit more before the hip extension (at 0:12 seconds) and that would give your trajectory a bit more of a curve and more power.
Kind of like this:
oh. thats what my lats aren’t doing. still gotta work on avoiding my knees. sigh.
nice deadlifting ![]()
hope your head is alright.

This is a reasonable and equitable request.
Awesome PR, Brett. Looking stronger than ever. I hope you didn’t dent the bar with your head…lol.
Great PR Brett - 500 WILL fall!
You definitely could have pulled 500.
awesome work farming guy! Once you move to portugal or greece, make sure you get something with servants quarters so i can be your live in gardner
C_K - Thanks
Matty - Thanks and nice imagery with the talking 500.
Kevin & Git - Taking bodyweight into account Kevin has the baddest deadlift by far out of us guys chasing 500, followed by Git, then me, then Matty. So I propose that we don’t take it into account, that way I have a greater chance of getting there first!. Besides I really don’t fancy making my attempts naked, shaved and after a sauna and enema combo.
DD - Thanks for the video, I watched it through twice and will try doing that on Monday. Although I have a horrible feeling that when I try adding the sweep the rest of the lift will fall apart immediately.
Alexus - Head is fine, just a slight graze. Ironic that I told my wife it was impossible to land with the bar on my head and then went a proved myself wrong.
KP - And who asked for your intelligent, reasoned and logical input?, shushhh will ya, I might have a chance of winning something here!
LS - Thanks. Unloading the bar after that DL I was pretty pleased with myself, then had the humbling thought that it was only 15 lbs heavier than the snatch world record. Kinda put it in perspective.
George & DCA - Thanks guys.

MJ I’ve seen what happens in the movies between the gardener/pool guy and the lady of the house. I can see it now, you using the alias ‘Ramone’, pruning the grape vines in your jeans and red bandana, stripped to the waist, your tanned, ripped torso glistening in the sunlight, while my wife looks on lustily while sipping a Marguerita and the moment my car pulls away … No, no, thanks for the offer, but the servants quarters will solely be for Elke, my Swedish tennis instructor and Mizuki my 19 year old Fung Shui teacher.
My wife quite liked the idea though!
Now there’s an image! I love it!
You mentioned Portugal or Greece. Greece is having some pretty bad economic problems at the moment, is that a good choice?

Yeah, Greece has already had an EU bailout and is asking for another one now. After Ireland (who have also had a bailout fron the UK), Portugal is the next country in most financial trouble. It’s just coincidental though, the reason that we prefer these two countries is that we have had many holidays there over the years and know them quite well.
As far as whether moving there would be smart?, I don’t know, property is cheap and the cost of living is lower, but all Europe is financially in the shitter at the moment, so it’s probably no riskier being there than staying here. Anyway, you only live once.
