Maybe I need to look into Oly lifting. You got all the girls.
Looking great Brett. You’ve taken to O-lifting fairly effortlessly.
Kent - Thanks, did you notice there was only 132 lbs on the bar though?. (I was doing them for the first time).
Cavalier - That accent you hear is English, I just live in Wales. Next time I swear I’ll put on a Welsh accent for you or even better swear in Welsh.
Dude - Looking forward to seeing some of your hang snatch vids. I find snatches harder from the hang, I need that speed off the floor.
Alexus - Started with overhead squats today and they really helped. Hear you on the shoes, I’m definitely going to get some, but might be a while before I can afford them.
Debra - Thanks for watching the vids, you won’t learn anything from mine, but I’m learning a lot from yours. Feel free to offer advice and criticism btw, I need all I can get.
UN42 - Learning the lifts is great fun, you should definitely give them a go. The ladies are an extra bonus!
Eco - Thanks for saying so, but I want to get so much better.
No problem, I can’t quite tell the difference between different accents, but think anything in the UK is charming.

First go at Pendlay rows, I liked them. I could go a lot heavier on these I think. I might post in the PL forum and ask “are these Pendlay rows?”. Should go down well. Ha Ha!

Not sure I missed this. But I cant help from laughing.
Im still getting over the humor that people are arguing over this in a powerlifting forum.
For the first time in what feels like ages, I left my gym feeling happy and satisfied!!

Overhead squat w/u @ 88 lbs x 6 (lots of bouncing and stretching at the bottom)
Full snatch
88 lbs x 3 singles
132 lbs x 7 singles (lost the first one forward, then hit 6 in a row!)
143 lbs x 2 singles
Back squat w/u to daily max
220 lbs x 3
308 lbs x 2
396 lbs x 1 then 90% of daily max
357.5 lbs x 2-2
Leg curls @ 85 lbs x 11-8-7
CG U/H Pulldowns @ 187 lbs x 9-6
Pushdowns @ 132 lbs x 6-7
Up until now the most snatches I’ve dropped under in a row has been 2. Today I got 8!. They weren’t great, my heels were still coming up and I was stepping forward on every squat up, but I was definitely starting to drop quicker and keep my balance at the bottom better.
Also, I’ve never dropped under anything heavier than 132 lbs before so the 143 was a PR for a full snatch (I’ve powersnatched 165). Wanted to go heavier for 154 because I was feeling so confident, but I was already at my intended quota so stopped. Very sensible for me. So I completed 11 out of my 12 attempts.
On the downside my squats felt heavier than usual, but that was probably because I’ve never squatted so many snatches up beforehand. Anyway I was so psyched from the snatches I didn’t really care.
Had to work out at 12.30 pm!!! because we were going to a barbecue in the afternoon. I always, always lift in the evening, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. But when, oh when will people realise just because it’s Easter Monday and a Bank Holiday that lifting still comes first?. Christmas day and Boxing day I’ll grant you, but Easter?
Last two snatches at 143 lbs (PR)
Nice work - I too do admire posting fails.
makes the good lifts all the better
and lets us see how much you work,
thank you.
good pulling too- I cant get anything over 455 to crack the floor.

Then I’m guessing a blowjob was involved…
Solid work. Those snatches looked great and huge props for filming yourself and posting those up.

Snatches are looking real good. Like they’ve been telling you, most of the instability at the bottom will go away when you get lifting shoes.
One day I’d like to squat like that. Damn fine work sir.
Outstanding snatches and, as always, squats were inspiring.
Kevin, Joe, UN42 and James - Thanks for taking the time to comment guys and thanks for saying nice things.
Carl - Thanks. What specific areas (apart from the flexibility and dropping quicker, which I’m aware of and am working hard on) are the major ones I need to work on? Any glaringly obvious flaws? I’d appreciate the early “heads up” so I don’t form bad habits.

Bike ride - To top of mountain and back - 6.5 miles in 39 minutes.
A really slow time today because it was very windy on the way up. At one point I was slowed to below 5 mph. I could have gotten off and walked quicker than that. Still, it was nice seeing the foals of the mountain ponies at the top.

JUST WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU IMPLYING?!!! You know very well I train alone.
Anyway that is just a very small part of the reason I’m doing all this stretching, flexibility and mobility work, mainly it’s to improve my Olympic lifting.
That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!
^^ Ok ,if you say so.

Hurray!
Bulldog - You know everything written on the internet is true.
Null - Thanks. The new equipment is great, especially the bumper plates. I love 'em. They’ve opened up a whole new world of lifting to me.
Cav - Yeah, it was about time. I was due a good one.

Warm up - Overhead squats
Bar only x 8
88 lbs x 6
Full snatch
88 lbs x 1-1-1
132 lbs x 1-1-1-1-1
143 lbs x 1-1-0-1
154 lbs x 1(PR)-0-0-0-0-0
Front squats @ 264 lbs x 3-3
RDLs @ 220 lbs x 10-10-10
Pendlay rows @ 176 lbs x 6-6-6
Went OK. The snatches at 143 lbs felt good so I upped the weight. Nailed the first one for a new PR then missed the next 5, Shit!!! Same old story. They were all pretty close, but lost them all forward coming up out of the ‘hole’ (not sure of the correct terminology).
And best of all, I didn’t accidentally power snatch anything. Very happy with that.
I think my bad shoulder is causing the misses, I’m just not confident with it, but I’m doing my rotator cuff exercise each night before I go to bed and it is slowly getting better. Going away to see relatives tomorrow, back Monday. After 5 days rest I’m hoping for a ‘blinder’ on Monday.
New snatch PR 154 lbs followed by some near misses.
Off subject question. How big of a actual deal is the coming royal wedding over there. Over here the National media is treating it as if where still part of the British crown.
My wife is getting up early to watch it live… AT 3AM!!!
