Farmer's Log 2

Awesome deadlifts. Your form was excellent throughout the 8 reps, something I do not see very often.

George - That is still pretty good. Remember you’ve got a few years on me too.

Steve - Wow 41 bpm is nearly in Lance Armstrong territory. What were you doing at the time to get it that low?

Alexus, Scott - Thanks.

Back Squats @ 330 lbs x 2 sets of 8 reps

Leg Curls @ 95 lbs x 8-8-8

Push Ups @ bw x 25-25-25-25 (supersetted with) EZ Curls @ 93.5 lbs x 7-7-7-7

Ab Rollouts (off knees) x 6-6-6-6

Second set of squats was much better than the first for some reason. Maybe I was better warmed up. The squats were harder than I’m used to though, but then I realised that they weren’t “that” hard, I’m just not used to grinding out heavier reps having just done lighter, higher rep squats for quite a while.

The 100 push ups in four sets was a goal I set myself after I injured my shoulder (when I wasn’t capable of a single rep). Time to start adding weight I guess. I’m going to add weight rather than raise my feet because I don’t want to change the angle at the shoulder. I’m happy with the way my shoulders are feeling right now, so I don’t want to mess with things.

2 sets of 8 reps on 330 lbs.

Do you feel sad that there isn’t some young girl crouched behind a bench trying to see your bum?

Nice work on the squats. They all looked heavy but they all went down and came back up again.

Or better still, I could have bunny hopped around behind her and checked out her…ahem… “depth”.

They did feel heavier than I’d have liked, but I guess I trained away my ability to handle heavy weights when I did the high rep stuff and I have to re-learn how to handle heavy weights again. It’s all very specific isn’t it?

Still, the lighter stuff was a rest for my knees. I forgot to ice them afterwards today, which I take as a good sign because it means they weren’t reminding me that they were just worked.

I was In London working for an international trading company. I lived and worked in Westminster. Our office was on Ebury St, I had a rented flat over on Warwick Sq. and than moved over to Chesham Place. So just a few blocks from Victoira Station. It was in the mid to late 80’s so I was just a YOUNG goat!!! Who enjoyed pubs! And spent time up in Northampton. A guy I worked with played rugby for Mens Own so I used to watch a tip a few with the boys afterwards.

I have been to Breacon Beacons National Park! really enjoyed it. I am trying to remember tha name of a Lake there I think was Langors or Langley maybe? Went to Cardiff and a few other places but spent most of time in Tondu-Mid Glamorgan by Bridgend. The company had bought a small gaming company ( no clue as to why) and the sent me to get it organized and boost sales.

Lol, funny O
Nice squats Brett

And just when i thought that i was beginning to get some depth myself…hell but you get down there !!

OG - Spooky!! Guess where I moved to from London?..Northampton! Small world eh? I worked there for several years and lived about 10 miles out until I moved to Wales.

German & BN - Thanks guys.

20/07/2011 Thursday night.

It was drizzling so I had to decide between riding in it for 40 minutes or running in it for 10. So I went with the hill sprints.

Hill sprints - 10 x 35 yds

Shoulder warm up circuit

Band pull aparts x 20
Band dislocates x 20 (twice through no rest)

Barbell Bench Press @ 231 lbs x 8-8

Standing DB Press @ 52.5 lb’ers x 10-10-10

Pushdowns @ 93 lbs x 10-10-10

Face Pulls @ 63 lbs x 10-10-10-10

Cuban DB Rotations @ 9 lb’ers x 10-10-10

I was really fired up tonight. I don’t know why, but it was good. There was no way I was going to miss a rep, in fact I had to stop myself from doing extra reps. Best to save them for later on in the cycle.

I’ve worked out the specific movement that bothers my shoulder. It’s when I rotate from an upright row position to an overhead press position. Which is why it hurt the other day when I attempted a snatch. So I’ve introduced the cuban rotations to try and strengthen that portion.

Off to see “Harry Potter And The Crock Of Shit” or whatever it’s called in 3-D. Not really my cup of tea, but the wife wants to see it. I just go for the popcorn!

Glad to see your shoulder is doing better, there was an epidemic around here for a minute. Nice work.

LMAO!

Umm . . . I might be able to help out here.

Such nice work. I always think you’re wearing wraps when you squat because of the stripes. But they’re just sleeves, right?

Those squats looked great. Tough but you kept your depth which is usually the first thing to go. Like the hill sprints…

dday - The film wasn’t as bad as I thought. It got a bit slow in the middle and I almost dozed off, but the ending was pretty exciting. The audience were clapping and cheering at some points when the baddies got their just desserts and gave it a standing ovation at the end. I’ve never seen that in a cinema before!

KP - They’re just sleeves. I didn’t choose the pattern, that’s just what they come in. They seem to be going a bit loose so I’m going to try washing them on a hot cycle.

James - Thanks. I never have a problem hitting depth, it’s the getting up from it I struggle with!

Deadlifts (straps) @ 385 lbs x 5-5

Leg Curls @ 75 lbs x 12-12-12

GHR @ bw x 5-5-5

Pull Ups @ bw x 6-6-6

Seated Row @ 209 lbs x 7-7-7

Ab Rollouts (off knees) x 7-7-7-7

The deads felt pretty comfortable. I’ve started to try and pull them as fast as possible. (Taken from Andy Bolton article).

I’m starting to like this routine. I’m constantly looking forward to the next session. Right now I’m coping OK, but over the next 3 weeks I’ve got to do 2 sets of five with 400, 418 and 436.

Looking strong Brett. My wife and kids hate Harry Potter. I can’t get them to go see it with me. I always have to wait for dvd. I’m jealous of your hill sprints. I’ve had to give them up because my heals can’t take the pounding. I limp for days after a sprint workout.

That’s surprising. It’s normally the other way round.

The hill sprints definitely can be hard on the achilles. I always stretch really well beforehand and limit myself to 90-95% effort. If I go too hard I end up coming down the stairs one leg at a time in the morning.

Hill sprints (holding a 55 lb DB in each hand) 35 yds x 5!

Can’t really call them sprints, but I was trying to sprint. The intention was there. Hill walks is probably closer to the truth.

Started out wanting 10. After the 2nd interval it had dropped to wanting 6 and by the 3rd I was happy to settle for 5. I got to the level of fatigue I get to after 8 or 9 un-weighted hill sprints after only 3. Having to carry the bastard things down again meant even the rest interval was knackering.

First 2 hill “walks” with 55 lb DBs.

Nice one brett, for what it’s worth i have had my first few tries at farmers walks in the gym with a pair of 25kg db’s, dont half get some strange looks from the cardio bunnies, strangest feeling when i put the bells down almost like my shoulders are floating !!!.

Farmers walks–must be a pun there somewhere…

That will put hair on your chest. That is awesome work!

james

DBHillsprints are an awesome idea! I’m so jealous.

HMMMMM…Farmer doing Farmer walks…who would think it. Alright ,fine I cant think of anything better to say.

Awesome Brett…I like the landscape too.
