Bike ride - 45.08 miles in 3 hrs 3 mins - 14.78 mph avg speed

One category 2 hill - 578 m elevation (1895 ft)

Time included a stop to eat a Snickers.

Was starting to get a sore Achilles tendon on my left foot, so I raised my saddle a cm or so and it seems to have sorted it.

God, that’s a lot of biking. I used to take bike rides many years ago and liked it just for the diversion, but if I aimed for big hills and kept times and speed records, I’d croaked.

I was hoping for a big banana seat with an orange flag sticking up and baseball trading cards in the spokes.

Hi Farmer,

I got the cilantro planted yesterday. Weather was blustery, but got it done. Radishes should be a real bumper crop this year.

I was hoping I’d be able to start all my tomatoes from seed again this season, but that didn’t work out. Will be hitting Behnkes in a couple of weeks and setting them in straight from plant.

Occch s a chilly one today. How’s your new ass?

Hi Sen Say,

firstly, youre not really Scottish are you? just because you use (and misspell) the word “och” doesnt fool me for one minute!

and talking about gardening is a very English thing. if you were Scottish you would be planting Thistles and Heather and other non-Alan-Titchmarsh-sorts-of-stuff

and as for asking about another mans ass!!!

you may as well just buy yourself a one way ticket down the M74-you are hereby BANISHED!

My tomatoe plants are popping up from seed right now, we are still waiting on the peppers at the moment. We are shooting for a total of 60 tomatoe plants and 18 pepper plants this year. DO either of you guys have suggestions on how to keep rabbits out of your gargen? We never got a chance to taste any of our lettuce or peppers last year a they just kept mowing them down.

I’m really enjoying my bike rides. There’s so much win as you Americans would say. Lots of fresh air, pretty countryside to look at, a nice 70’s playlist on my Ipod (not so loud that I can’t hear the traffic mind you) and I get to eat several chocolate bars guilt free WHILE exercising! What’s not to like?

And it seems to be taking some fat off me and putting some mass back on my legs. I do put in some sprints too, especially up small hills, in the hope that some of the muscle will be fast twitch and not just the gay type (slow twitch). Despite spending over 3 hrs in the saddle on some rides the time really flies, it only feels like about an hour.

I’m planning a 50+ mile ride tomorrow.

You mean this sort of thing. This was the bike I learnt to ride on. I didn’t own one, but my mate had one. It was THE bike to have growing up in the 70’s. It still looks pretty good today. A bit of a style icon I think. They are fetching £1000 on ebay these days.

Cilantro? what the fucks that? It’s called Coriander. CO-REE-AND-ER. And while we are on the subject Coriander is a herb, not an 'erb. Why do you guys say 'erb, you 'aint French.

I like to sow my radishes fortnightly that way you get a constant supply throughout the summer rather than a glut and then a lull and we always plant loads of extra tomato and bean plants and sell them at the gate. The money taken normally pays for all our seeds.

My ass is fine thanks and looking super hot in my new jeans.

I’ve never had to deal with them before because we don’t have them here, myxomatosis killed them all off, but they are a problem in my new place in Portugal. They do say they can’t jump very high so a 30cm chicken wire fence would keep them out and apparently they won’t dig under it either, but that’s a pain if you have a big vegetable garden, they also are quite resistant to electric fences too because of their hairy feet. I’m going to try and keep them down with my air rifle and if that doesn’t work probably put a low fence around the most vulnerable stuff.

And if that doesn’t work, I’ll get a pet fox.

Now friend, before we get down to brass tacks, I don’t want to just list off my rabbit keeping away log, och. Have a seat an’ let’s tip a shanter of drambuie, och? Oy there goes Nessie!

You don’t know what cilantro is?

Oh my. You’re missing out.

I think I am going to have to procur an air rifle as dealing with the fence is a pain! Tried that last year and the little bastards jumped right over it.

Thats the way Alf Garnett pronounced those words- and who is going to tell him he is wrong?

I take it back, you clearly are a Scotsman-you have seen Nessie after all.

To everyone else- come to Scotland, see Nessie, buy shortbread and tartan stuff. It hardly ever rains and the midgies have all died- you’ll love it. Bring your friends.

We talk like that? Curious what television shows you get over there. We do say “It’s a win win”, as in I win and you win too.

Yeah, that’s what I liked about biking, the breeze in your face and the scenery rolling by. But I would have gone bonkers up and down hills and timing myself.

I thought all you Brits talked like that. That’s how they talked in My Fair Lady and Mary Poppins.
