Farmer's Log 2

That’s so sad, Brett. I feel like I miss Molly, too.

Brett
Im sorry to hear about your Molly,
that is the hardest choice to take sometimes.

good training despite.

Very sorry to hear about your pooch, I have three myself, and other than my wife and daughter will always choose their company over anyone else.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to
someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are
meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can
run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and
sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to
health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made
whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our
dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and
content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone
very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all
run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly
stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are
intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run
from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs
carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special
friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion,
never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your
face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look
once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone
from your life but never absent from your heart
Then, you cross Rainbow Bridge together…

Cav, Kev - Thanks guys.

Matty - What are you trying to do to me man? I was just about holding it together until that.

Shoulder warm up circuit

Band Pull Aparts x 20
Band Dislocates x 20 (twice through without rest)

Flat Bench Press @ 203 lbs x 10-10

Standing DB Press @ 47 lb’ers x 10-10-10

Pushdown @ 88 lbs x 10-10-10

Face Pulls @ 55 lbs x 10-10-10

Band Ext. Rotations (each arm) x 10-10-10

Average. Lacking energy and not particularly motivated right now. Just getting in there and getting it done.

Damn Matty I hate that poem, read one line and swole up.

ANYHOW…Way to put life behind you for an hour or so and get work done. That’s the great thing about training no matter what it’s always a good way to clear your head and brings some sort of normalcy.

Not the best time to venture into your log, but you have my sympathy for Molly.

hang in there, lift when you can, it really does get easier.

I’m really sorry about Molly.

Lifting has helped me get over more bad things than whiskey has.

I wasn’t really suggesting that you lift on the roof of the van, just that you reinforce the roof enough to support your bumpers. I’d expect you to lift on the roadway of course.

Get another dog and keep lifting.

Sorry about your friend…

Sorry to hear your news there brett.

When you are feeling happier i will relate my story of a very similar situation but that had a hilariously non pc finish.

So you are off soon then on the grand tour ?

dday - Thanks. Lifting is a great way to occupy the mind, at least for an hour or so.

lil power - Visit my log and I guarantee you’ll leave more depressed or your money back.

MJ - Thanks for the sympathy. If I was a drinker I’d have hit the bottle, but I’m not so I’ve been drowning my sorrows in carbs, lovely, lovely carbs!!

Cav - If the European tour wasn’t on the horizon we’d get another dog, but we’re going to have to wait until we’re settled.

Null - Thanks

BN - Tour could start in 2 months time assuming the sale doesn’t fall through. I’m hoping that if I expect it to fall through, it won’t.

Deadlift @ 346 lbs x 8-8

Leg Curls @ 90 lbs x 10-9

GHR @ bw x 5-5-5

Pull Ups @ bw x 8-6

Seated Row @ 187 lbs x 9-8

EZ Curls @ 88 lbs x 8-8

Decided to dispense with the second week of tens and drop to the sets of 8 early as time is at a premium. The deadlifts felt easier today than last week despite being heavier which is a good sign.

The 8 reps on pull ups is a post shoulder injury PR which I’m very happy about.

Starting to feel stronger already from the reduced volume.

Not a bad session.

Sorry about Molly Brett…Congrats on the PR!! Thats the way to do it!

Great job on the PR

I’ll be watching your progress closely. And there will be progress, of that I have no doubt.

Time heals. Hang in there.

Sorry to hear about Molly. It was the right decision to make but it doesn’t make it easier .

james

OG & Bulldog - Thanks, but it was a cheap PR in as much as I’ve never ever done pull ups before!. I’ve always done chins (chin up PR is 16 I think) but the pull ups seem to bother my shoulder less these days. Hopefully should improve on 8 this week as it’s a new movement to me.

Git - Thanks, some progress would be nice. I’m due some. I don’t know quite what I’ve been doing since finishing the RSR at the beginning of the year. I think I’ve wasted the last 6 months to be honest.

James - You summed it up perfectly. It’s been a week now and I’ve come to terms with the decision and am not beating myself up about it anymore. Still miss her massively, but we did the right thing, I can see that now.

Alright FB, I’ll agree with you then. I had no idea why a guy with your fantastic base level of squatting strength (and great form) was wasting his time messing with 5 sets of 10 as the main workout -that’s for amateurs like me who are barely breaking 1.5 BW.

I’m looking forward to following your progress and effort(s) with the Coan cycle though.

I find the neutral grip pullup to be the least stressful on my joints, and that’s the one I add weight to. I do the other two grips with bodyweight only for reps.

Back Squats @ 313.5 lbs x 8-8

Leg Curls @ 90 lbs x 10-10

Push Ups @ bw x 25-25-20-20 (supersetted with) EZ Curls @ 88 lbs x 8-8-8-8

Cable Hip Abductor thingies @ 11 lbs x 10-10-10 (each leg) Trying to increase strength of my gluteus medius to help with my patello femoral syndrome.

Made hard work of the squats tonight for some reason. Because the weight didn’t sound too heavy I went at them with a lackadaisical attitude and they nearly kicked my butt! Not that into squats right now I’m actually enjoying deads more. When the squat weight gets heavier I’ll have to take them more seriously and the fear of failure will kick in and I’ll try harder. I think today I knew I’d get them regardless, so didn’t put forth the effort I should have.

Finished off with those abductor things I used to mock the plump housewives for doing set after set of, at the gym I used to work at, in the mistaken belief they could “spot reduce” their saddle bags! Do squats and deads I used to say if you’re trying to lose weight. The abductor muscles are tiny, they won’t burn you many calories.

Fast forward 20 years and here I am doing them myself, ha ha. Maybe they knew something I didn’t.

Finally learning (way too late) that the key to a healthy body is balance. Push and pull, internal rotation and external rotation, hip adduction and hip abduction etc.

It was literally to give my joints a break from the heavier weights and because I was lacking motivation at the time and it was interesting for a while to do something different.

I’m hoping the low volume of the Coan cycle will allow me to use heavier weights without feeling beat up all the time.
