I was wondering if you’d maybe purchased all of them on DVD or something.

What I’m trying to understand, Mak, is how a guy from NZ can possibly get all the American pop culture and political references that are rife in FG?
Doesn’t the show leave you with a big question mark in your mind about half the time?
Nah, a lot of American shit is on TV here. There is the occasional “WTF” moment, but for the most part, it’s all hilarity.
RE: Southpark Vs. Family Guy.
I wouldn’t say one is funnier than the other, they do have very different political overtones.

And one openly bashes the other. Which just smacks of jealousy.

Oh, I see…
No; “FG” plays in reruns on TBS 2-3 times a week. I TIVO it, and watch them sometimes 2-3 at a time. That’s how I was able to see how they sort of “experimented” with Stewie.
Mufasa
best line ever from Stewie…
Brian’s ex:“I have someone I want you to meet”
Stewie: “Judging from those toenails, I bet it’s that little Lamisil monster!!”
I also love how they occasionally make Brian act like a regular dog. The one where he’s in the car, and Lois is driving. Suddenly, he sees another dog in the car next to them and goes nuts…
“Lois! Lois look! Another dog.” “Bark bark bark” “Lois, look - another dog!!”
“Hey - other dog - FUCK YOU!!!”
Too funny…

South Park makes fun of everything
pushharder wrote:
Yeah, but you’re 21. My 19 year old son watches it with me and I feel sorry for him because I know there’s no way he is getting the historical references from the 1960s and 70s.
I’m considered pretty “retro” so I get most of the 80’s pop culture references.

They’re more vindictive to Family Guy from what I’ve seen. But I don’t watch South Park often, so I could be wrong.
Anyone here love Family Guy but think American Dad sucks? I do.
I don’t watch new Family Guy as much as I want to, but I watched the other night, and when did Stewie get that BLATANTLY gay? I mean he’s not even subtle, he just is a total homosexual now.

I don’t think it completely sucks, but it’s definitely not as funny. It’s good for a laugh here and there, but I find myself just trying to get through the episode most of the time. I’ll put it this way, if American Dad went off the air, I wouldn’t miss it at all.
I love Family Guy, as do most of my good friends, but one inside joke that all have is that we can’t stand American Dad, yet every now and then we’ll end up watching an episode by accident.
I’ll be watching FG and then just completely get suckered into watching A.D right afterwards.
I mean, what else am i gonna do on a sunday night, read a book ? screw that.
you read a book.

I assume you are referring to the South Park episode Cartoon Wars? They weren’t actually bashing Family Guy. Just ripping on them like everything else. Macfarlane jokingly referred to the show, and it looked like he got the joke.
South Park also has tried to get Seth Macfarlane. I believe they have an open invitation for him to voice there.
This episode was actually a reference to how Comedy Central was not allowing them to show Muhammad, and they used Family Guy as an allegory for themselves. (Although Muhammad did appear in their Super Best Friends episode.)
Back on topic, both of these shows have been able to make me laugh enough that I had to pause the shows to get my breath back. They both run with different political philosophies of course, and some people dislike either one because of that. Others just don’t “get it”, and that can go for either or both.
Both shows are hilarious. Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, and Futurama are all my favorite ways to spend a half hour on TV. Family Guy seems to strike a medium between Matt Groening’s subtle humor and South Park’s outright disturbing and morbid humor at times.
Futurama, though, seems to have the heart which the Simpsons used to.
Go back and watch the episode where fry finds his fossilized dog. I dare you.

I think I have something in my eye.
