Family Guy: Stewie???

EDIT: Also, Stewie didn’t start out gay. You think maybe he changed when people started uncovering where the idea came from so Mcfarlane could deny that he blatantly stole the idea?

Yes that’s exactly it! I can picture Seth McFarlane now, laughing and twirling his mustache, “Bwhahahaha! I changed his character just in time, they’ll NEVER CATCH ON to ME!!!” Then he leaps off into the night laughing maniacally and plotting what to steal next!
I wouldn’t put it past him. Apperantly ya’ll don’t know that Mcfarlane tried to sell family guy in the mid 90’s, but it was just an old man in an apt with a talking dog. Add in the baby idea he stole, an idiot son, an unattractive daughter and a sexy wife and you have the program that made it. There’s no way he could’ve taken those ideas from another show or comic strip -no matter how overwhelming the evidince- right?

Good point. After all The Simpsons invented the concept of the fat hilarious husband and the attractive wife. Oh wait that’s used by just about every comedy show ever.

Unattractive daughter? What show is that ripping off (because having an unattractive daughter on a TV show is trademarked)? Last time I checked Lisa Simpson was smart - not ugly. Hell in the future episodes she’s hot. And Bart is an asshole, whereas Chris is basically retarded.

Although I have to admit Stewie and Maggie sound and act very similar…hmmmm…and Brian acts just like Santa’s Little Helper…and Quagmire is a lot like Ned Flanders…

Too much talking, not enough clips:

The only similarities between Peter and Homer are that they’re overweight fathers with hot wives - and they’re cartoon characters. That alone is enough for people to start crying about stealing.

Because Fat idiot and hot wife has never been done before. It’s not like the Honeymooners or the Flintstones or just about every sitcom on TV does it.

You stole this from me.

hey…ohh, hey, Seth McFarlane has a mustache!

Are there any of these concepts that can claim full originality? The true originals were all created over 60 years ago (which were no doubt based on what worked in theater before that).

Either way, I don’t see any character in Family Guy that was stolen from somewhere else. Having a football headed baby who uses big words is not the same as having a British accented toddler who has actually shot his mother before and left her to drown in the ocean. What other character has burned, stabbed and shot the family dog all in a scene so graphic that Brian bled all of the way down the stairs? What was that stolen from?

Just saw Blue Harvest tonight for the first time. Freakin’ hilarious.

Then watched again with the commentary-- there are so many gags behind the scemes, like “Bender” from Futurama in the ‘bar scene’ where they meet Han Solo.

All the Stewie as Darth Vader lines are epic.
Don’t forget the alien from American Dad was in the bar scene as well.

Why do haters hate? Are you fucking kidding me? Family Guy blatantly rips off every show before it. Other writers/animators know it, people with half a brain know it, it seems the only people who don’t are the ones defending it on this thread. Pull your heads out of your asses. I shouldn’t have to explain what’s right in front of you.

I do believe the point made to you is that there isn’t one comedy made in recent times that has taken nothing from something previous. If you can think of one, please name it. South Park looks the way they do because of Charlie Brown, not because the creators are so damned original…but you don’t seem to have a problem with that at all.

How fucking strange.

Why aren’t you blasting South Park for ripping off othert shows?

'Cause South Park openly admits when they take something. They devoted a whole show to “Simpsons did it!” Also, I don’t watch South Park that often. I watch the Family Guy pretty often. I like the Family Guy. But as someone who is a Simspsons fanatic [seasons 1-9 on DVD] I can clearly see how many jokes and scenarios are lifted straight from the pages of forgotten Simpsons episodes. There’s nothing wrong with that, unless it’s presented as original and no credit is given.

Why do you think it was copied and why do you think the Simpson’s were the first people to use whatever joke you are talking about?

Just like that Whoopie Goldberg statement, most of these jokes are not new at all and they don’t belong to any one person even if they did do a routine that included it years ago.

I don’t think they were copied, I know it.It’s not a joke, it’s multiple jokes, over and over. Look man, I’ve presented my case, and it’s a damn good one. If you want to look past the facts have at it. I’m done here.

Seth Mcfarlene actually had a cartoon short with, what you could call a prototype Peter and a talking dog with Brians exact voice. It was on the premise of him going to the store to by a tv or something like that. It was funny and more on the side of slapstick. All he did was give that guy a family and make it more raunchy.

Tell me who does casual conversation better than Family guy. The speech patterns the way they stutter when saying certain words and the random flash backs are totally original. Who randomly fights a chicken to the death? Who has God in a bar trying to pick up chicks?

Family guy took a time tested formula and ran with it, thats all.

Side note:

Fuck ya’ll, if you don’t think American Dad is funny. I think it hit its stride this season. Check out the episodes on Hulu.com and tell me you don’t get a laugh out of it.

Did you ever see the episode where Brian gets fired from his job at the New Yorker and he goes out and lies on top of Snoopy’s dog house? I think that is an open admission that Brian’s look was inspired in part by Snoopy. Do you view that as a rip off of Snoopy?

Family Guy get’s inspiration from a wide range of things, same as the rest.

If it were such a good case, I would think more people would be agreeing with you.

What case? What facts?

The only people I usually see hate on Family Guy are the ones who don’t get most of the jokes. Hell Family Guy did an episode where Stewie RUNS DOWN Homer Simpson and Peter comes out and says:

“Who the hell is that guy?”. I think they are well aware of the (inevitable) parallels drawn by people who look for a reason to bitch and moan.

I love the arguement over the intellectual property of this show, and I’d love to add to it, but right now I’m considering stretching my meat to Zap’s new avatar…

Sorry for the hijack.

Have you seen the 100th episode?

Remember the part about Seth interviewing all the random people who watched Family Guy and how much they complained about it?

That should tell you how aware the creators of Family Guy are of what they are doing.

“How does this show speak to YOU, as a black man?”

“Not well.”
