Facial Care

My skin tends to be on the oily side so i’ve begun to use neutrogena’s facial cleanser and have seen improvement.

Sabrina- My skin also seems to look better since eliminating dairy and most simple carbs a week ago. One thing though, aren’t protein shakes considered dairy? You made the comment about mixing them with water instead of milk. Just curious.

If my skin clears up while cutting out dairy, I may just add back in Surge to see if my skin can handle that. Thanks to everyone.

Well, whey and cassein are derived from dairy, however, I don’t think they are technically considered to be a dairy product. I honestly don’t know enough about it to give you a concise response. I use “GROW”, and a whey blend and I haven’t noticed any adverse dairy-esque side effects.

You may want to try adding Pantothenic acid as well as cutting out dairy, it seems to work for a lot of people. I may not have been using the proper dosage, given it long enough, etc.

Sabrina- I actually already supplement Pantothenic Acid. I have been taking it for a couple of years now, it seems to help my skin be less oily. My skin is definately sensitive to proteins powders containing calcium casienate(Sp?. I hope I will at least be able to add back in whey protein and/or Surge. Not right now though, I like the improvements I am seeing in my skin.

pantothenic acid is just B5. You should already have it in your multi vit/min. Don’t know how much more you should take of it.

I actually take 3-4 grams of b5 a day. This may seem like a lot, but there is a study that was done that suggests taking 10 grams a day to clear up acne. 10g/day usually involves choking down 20 pills a day! I think that may be a little overkill. But 3-4 g seems to help me.
BTW, I switched brands of b5 and my skin has improved drastically!! My plan is to add back in Surge next week.

Well, that could explain why it didn’t work for me, I wasn’t using nearly enough. What brand are you using, by the way?

One more thing, I have used a %100 whey protein called “Pro-Rated” that is lactose free. I don’t know if all whey is lactose free anyway, and they are using it as a gimmick but it is relatively inexpensive and pretty tasty.
