I love the tabata method for conditioning, especially for martial arts conditoning, fat loss and the like
nice well laid out Tabata primer by t-nations Dan John.
I remember seeing Tabata method being mention on the BBC, i thought this is really cool some main stream exposure, but they did the whole “10 minute workout works for the japanese can it work for you?” angle, and for commentary they had Diana Moran, WAIT WHAT?
Diana Moran the same diana moran that used to prance around on TV in the mornings do exercises in a stupid green leotard. when asked if it works she said “no, 10 minutes just isnt long enough, to lose fat you need to work the aerobic pathway” what the hell! some one pull her ass out of the 1980’s and hand her some scientific journals.
“40 minutes working the aerobic pathway, is whats is needed” wait it gets better.
Reporter “so why does it work for the japanese”, “well i suppose its because they are quick people, with quick lifstyles”. “they probably eat less too”
Quick people! Quick people what the hell are you talking about, she obviously has’nt looked at how the method works, she taken it face value probably while sitting in make up, “oh a 10 minute work out, that cant possibly work”.
Well done BBC, well done you had a chance to tout a really good training method for weight loss and fitness and your choice of “expert” shoots it down in a ball of flames in 3 sentences
Like i tell my athletes Tabata method needs to balls to the wall pace, it needs to fast and furious.
Anyone come across other so called “experts” in a media situation, where you just feel like throwing your protein shake at the TV/magazine/article/person in question.
