I have been running the Westside mass program along with my cycles and damned if I didn’t grow out of my Suit Jackets and dress shirts…went from a 46 L to a 50 L and 17 1/2 to 18 1/2 on shirts. I guess I need to throttle back on the cals.
If its coming in quality muscle, that you apparently wanted or else you wouldn’t be bulking and using gear, then you need to invest in a tailor or a couple new jackets/shirts.
Isn’t this what you wanted?
I was having the same problem. I wear suits every day and had dropped 4K just 8 months ago. 1.5 cycles later I need all new suits and shirts. It is what I signed up for as well but damn that’s an expensive cycle.
i thought the idea was to buy clothes that are too big to begin with and grow into them. for the record, i finally fill out the t-shirt i got in grade 9 gym, but alas the rest of the shirts i have from between then and now are small.

I know. But he was saying he should cut back on the cals. I’m saying if he is making monster gains keep eating those calories.
I am making gains for sure, I do have to watch fat accumulation…as far as clothes go, I am working on 3 sets, 210, 240, 260. My goal is 260 and I have 8 pounds to go to get there, one more 30 day cycle should do it.
The odd thing is my shoulders are getting bigger but I don’t do specific shoulder movements other than BP.
if you are relatively balanced and execute the lifts properly, there is a surprising benefit of all upper body muscles receiving a workout from this lift and probably the back work you do. when your muscles are working in proper balance, movement patterns are more optimal, and thus, so is muscular development.

Flat bench will hit the front delts hard. And the arch PLer’s use while benching is a shitload of shoulders. I use a lot of Westside theories and shoulders get hit a couple times/week from what I’ve learned. I do the ME days and DE days. What do you mean the Westside mass program? Whats the difference than plain ol’ Westside system? I’m not bashin’ ya, I just haven’t heard of this aspect of the Westside system…
Shamus:
I ordered some stuff from Elite FTS. They sent a manual with a number of Westside Templates, I think Dave Tate wrote them. The one I am running is “I need some mass”, the only differece really is on the RE accessory movements you do 5 X 10.
ALso on DE Squat you add 10 speed deadlifts. I rotate between chains, bands and straight weight on the DE. There was a PDF floating around somewhere with all these routines.
Not a PL but I think this template is an excellent mass builder.
The clothing thing hasn’t been too bad for. I tend buy clothes a little baggy, so putting on 15 lbs just makes them look little less baggy. PLing gear is another story. A good cycle can turn a good-fitting bench shirt and squat suit into expensive hand-me-downs. I guess my lighter training partners think it’s cool though :).
Shit, if you’re dropping $4k on suits, do this:
Roundtrip ticket to Hong Kong: $800 from most American cities
Custom tailored
shirts: $20 with french cuffs and monogram
trousers: $20ish
jacket: $30
I just had a new suit tailored from an Armani pattern using the best fabric in the joint and got it silk-lined. $95 US.
That’s long flight…hopefully you were doing more than shopping…

Cool, yeah I’ve got that manual, I just haven’t looked at it in a year or so. I’ve got the seminar videos, and also all the Squat,DL,bench, and special lift vids. I agree with your belief on the template, hell I agree with all the Westside methods. I thought maybe there was something new that I had missed! I was using my stepdads bands, and he actually talked the Y into getting the chains! But I moved to finish school up, and this gym dosn’t even have a safety squat bar. Good luck with your lifting!
