Evolv's Training Log

Thanks man appreciate that!

Still training. Current routine is a 5/3/1 variant without the plus sets, followed by 5x5 on that same lift. Same usual exercises-- front squat, overhead press, and added in trap bar deadlifts instead of squatting twice a week. Feeling really awesome, happy with my physique. I feel really athletic and young. I took off on a cold sprint after my dog the other day and it felt great. My strength is way down, especially on the big lifts like squats, but that is okay. I am getting out doing other things throughout the week.

Still skydiving and working on the A license. I also got out my old trad climbing rack and have been getting out climbing once or twice a week as well. Definitely putting a lot of my miles on my truck, but fuck it, fall is coming and that is a great time to be outside.

Another update, for anyone who follows my stupid shit, is my psoriasis. For the past year I have been managing my moderate psoriasis through diet and it is really working. It is starting to significantly disappear and has improved by, I would say, 50-75%, just through diet alone. Hopefully it will continue to improve! If anyone ever develops, or knows someone, with an auto-immune disease definitely have them research and experiment with diet. It takes extreme lifestyle changes and discipline, but it has changed my life and reversed something that I thought was only going to continue to get worse without harsh drugs with side effects.

Glad to hear all is well. Being athletic is a great feeling. Something I don’t ever want to lose myself. It’s one of the main reasons I run. Don’t be a stranger brother.

What’s good man!? How’s training for you these days?

How’s the climbing and skydiving?

Yo! Great progress on your end man! Nice work!

Training for me is… well… its there… lol

My body has really changed. I had to buy some pants the other day for the winter climbing season and i bought a size 30 waist!!! I haven’t worn 30s in who knows how long. I’ve lost a lot of size, especially in my hips and thighs. Yesterday I weighed 167 :flushed:
I am still getting in there and front squatting 1 day a week and hitting my upper body a couple days a week when I can. Nothing crazy, just keeping the movements greased. My overhead pressing is still fairly strong and I am still front squatting in the low 300s I want to say.

Despite that adjustment, I have really enjoyed getting back into climbing and learning the skydiving stuff.

If I can’t climb, I train on the hang board. Forearms and fingers are getting strong again. Trying to get my lead head back on trad (for those of you who climb). Its been awhile since I have led hard trad, so I have some routes in the 5.11 and 5.12 range on want to get on soon. I have led some heady 5.9/5.10 lines that have felt pretty good. Just trying to take my time building back up to the gnarly stuff.

This has to be the lightest you’ve ever been. You must be shredded!

I wouldn’t call myself shredded, but fairly lean. This picture was from about 3 weeks ago, around 166. I am surprised I still have a chest given that i do absolutely zero direct chest work. The only thing I have done for awhile now is weighted dips. Otherwise, all of the pressing I do is strictly overhead.

Well you’re looking awesome! ! Also happy cake day

I’ve never in my life have had that V cut (like by your hips). I’d say that’s lean as fuck lol. Looking strong though man! I think dips + ohp hits enough of your chest to stimulate it some.

Have your noticed any carry over from climbing to lifting?

My hands and forearms have started to get truly strong again. I didn’t realize how weak they had gotten from just lifting.

Also, my upper back and shoulder mobility has seemed to have improved from climbing, which always helps in lifting of course.

I was showing a homie your log to explain to him he doesn’t need 20 different lifts right now.

Giant steak burritos definitely help all lifts though!!

@Evolv hows training and climbing going? Anything new?

Hey man! Training is actually going really well! I’ve been overhead pressing my body weight for reps now and still front squatting in the mid 300s. Only training 3 days per week at the moment, but it has been great for me. I look the best I have looked in probably forever. Sitting around 167 lbs right now, at 5’9", but very lean (six pack with vascularity on lower abdominals). Not too bad for 34 years old I guess!

Climbing is going really well, gotten back into leading the harder stuff, almost to my goal I had set out for myself last fall when I started back. Hopefully this summer, I will get there.

How are you man!? How is the training going???

That’s awesome! Guess consistency and hard work pays off.

Glad the climbing is going good.Your forearms and hands must be ox strong by now.

I went rock climbing for the second time just over a week ago and it’s pretty hard especially the more difficult climbs haha.

Pretty good. Due to annoying reasons i can’t lift so i started combat sports (MMA and BJJ) and i’m loving it. I’m doing volleyball and aussie rules footy at school too so conditionings really coming along.

Also i’ve become obsessed with Captain of Crush gripper training. :grinning:

Thats great! As long as you’re doing something that you enjoy, that is all that matters man.

Dude, I’ve been messing around with those for years. I’m not very good at them, but I have all of them up to a #2.5. I have never really sat down and followed a training protocol for them, but I warm-up and my hands with them before training on my hangboard (for climbing).

I can close the #2, but that is as good as I can get. I don’t have very large hands, and I find it is difficult to get the harder ones started, because I can’t get my fingers wrapped around them well.

How are you doing with them?

I’d rather be lifting but MMA and BJJ is really cool! i have plenty years to get huge and strong so i’ll come back to that in the future. Glad i found something so i atleast have something to do.

Not very good at them? Closing #2 is still 200 pounds with one arm no matter how you describe it. I think that’s awesome grip strength!

I’m piss weak so i started at the Trainer (got from 1 rep to 20) and progressed to the level 1 really fast which just recently came in the mail, recently had my first workout and got 5 reps. I really want to close the level #3 by the time i’m 17 which is almost 8 months away.

I’ve figured out a few things that work with the grippers so we’l see where it goes. If i dont get the #3 before i’m 17 i’ll at least close the #2.5.

I was thinking of starting a thread so people can follow the journey, and that way if i do close the #3, people will know what to do as well. Don’t know if it would just be boring for the folks around here though haha.

Closing that #2.5 will be a feat in itself! Good luck with that, let me know how that goes!

Thanks evolv!! Wishful thinking on the #3 maybe even the 2.5 haha but il see what i can do.
