'Kuma, are you from San Diego too?
I ran into Nasser about 2 yrs ago. Apparently, he takes his dog to a groomer that’s located by my old gym. Really cool fella but yeah, big as hell, he told me at the time that he was around 320 plus!
There are a few BB’s at my gym. Albert Beckles, Melvin Anthony, and Quincy Taylor. They are pretty cool, if you were to ask them a question, and you appear to be serious about it, they would most likely off you some advice. But if you walk up to them asking how to get hawt abz and hyuge gunz, run.

Back in '78 I attended one of George Snyder’s “Best In The World” shows. In the lobby all the guys were selling their stuff and signing autographs. Frank Zane is bigger in real life than he looks in photos. Mike Mentzer had the biggest calves I’d ever seen. Sammir Bannout was competing and won that night and was flawless. Robby Robinson guest posed and had the best V-taper and bicep peak I’d ever seen!
I got autographs from all of them(including Steve Michalik, Boyer Coe, Cave Draper, Greg DeFerro and more). When I got an autograph from Ed Corney, he asked for $2.00! I said “For an autograph? Nobody else here is charging money for autographs!” He angrily shot back, “Yeah, well I gotta make a living.” Dick.

Id read this about Ed once before, but every post in the last few years i’ve read involving Ed Corney paint him as the perfect gentleman, maybe he was displaying his dark side (with perfect transitions between good guy and bad guy no doubt!)
I find it funny how many people like to put Zane down as if if was small, gald you noted he looked like a BBer
Steve Michalik had a real ‘scary’ reputation back then too.
Cool that you met all these ‘golden age’ bbers, cool Arnold story too!

Youd mentioned him before, you get to train near the legend, he must be pushing 80 by now.
Theres a thread ‘Great Al Beckles Interview’ on t nation
Met Jay Cutler when he used to live in Aliso Viejo. He used to work out at a place in Laguna Hills and I would go there with my girlfriend so I would see him just about every week. This was in 99-00.
Thanks…that was a great story. And don’y lol your ma…that painting would probably be worth a lot.
Could you, would you, take a pic of it if possible? You really should show us your work more often.
Nards
I don’t see my mom that often (she lives a few hours away). On top of that, she’s a hoarder… and last time I asked her about the painting, she couldn’t locate it. I feared she had sold it at a yard sale, which is something she does often, ironically.
If I can get the painting back, there’s no guarantee that it would sell for any substantial amount. Autographed items often need attribution proof (like a certificate). Unless the buyer is an expert at handwriting, the signature would be suspect.
I met bob paris in sydney back in about 89 i think it was.he was wearing a pink sweat shirt with BUM emblazoned across the chest, not very subtle in hindsight haha. took abit of a "shine"to a mate i was with that was very tall and a model.this was before he was out,and my mate was alittle disturbed by the attention…
Met Lee Haney at a health exposition a couple of years ago. He was very nice, especially to my children. We were able to chat a while since most people did not know who he is. The long line was for the figure competitor in the next booth. I don’t remember who she was. I was surprised that Lee wasn’t taller, but still he was pretty impressive
I used to do graphic art for a BBing promotion company in the 80’s. Lee Haney guest posed at one of their shows and I met him there. Later, he called me when he was in the beginning stages of his TotaLee Awesome promo stuff (he discussed me designing a logo for him). His accent was so thick to me back then, I struggled to understand him! We spoke on the phone several times about the logo design, but he later ended up going with another artist… and I didn’t think that artist did a good job.

LOL @ “accent”. The guy is American. Coleman has a stronger “accent” than Haney.

Do you mean “slang”?
I think Americans have accents…many different ones.
I think I’ve heard Lee Haney in a youtube video and he has what I scientifically call a “Southern Twang”
The only people without accents are Canadians from Central Canada and perhaps North Dakotans.
If the dictionary could talk it would sound like me.

LOL.
Dude, I’m from Houston. I am sure I have an “accent” to some degree as well. We know that people have accents from different areas …like Boston is way different than backwoods Mississippi. However, it would be RARE for me to hear someone speak and not be able to understand them at all…unless they were from West Virginia and only had one tooth.
science fact: West Virginia has highest tooth loss rate in the nation.
