Hi Eric,

A couple questions about your upcoming meet.

First, What kind of time line do you intend to use for cutting weight? Since this is the Pro-Am I assume it’s a 48 hour weigh-in, do you plan on taking advantage of that and step on the platform above 165lbs?

Secondly, will your results “qualify” as raw lifts? By that I mean, does the Pro-Am have a raw division?

Thanks and good luck.

The Pro/Am has a 24 hour weigh-in rule and I will take advantage of that. I will not change my diet one bit and simply drop some water weight. Yes, when I step onto the platform I will be above 75K. I would be above 75K if it was a 2 hour weigh-in. At my body weight one can effectively cut 2-3 kg (5-7 lbs.) of water weight and have all of that put back and perhaps then some in 2 hours or less. However, I will not be bloated or anything like that. I will just drink a lot of fluid to put back what was lost and then eat normally; no big supercompensation and so forth.

No, the Pro/Am does not have a raw division that I am aware of. I will do my lifts raw and we will have good video to show that I did them raw. If Jon Hall and the folks at Powerlifting Watch decide to count them as raw then that is great. However, I know what I need to do personally to take the top spot in my weight class and that is what matters most to me.

I am doing the Pro/Am to see many of my friends that compete in multi-ply and to see and talk with my sponsors Elite Fitness Systems and have a nice little “mini-vacation”. I also know that the meet will be well run with good equipment and that is another reason I chose it as my second and final major competition of 2008.

Wow, I didn’t know 5-7lbs was possible for a 2-hour weigh-in. Thanks.

Eric,

I noticed you keep your feet elevated by putting them on plates. The only thing I can think of is your bench is higher than regulation, but if so why not just get a lower bench? Or it just a “not broke, don’t fix it” situation.

I bought that bench 4 or so years ago and you are right-it is higher than regulation. It was a lesson to me to always be careful and specific when someone is making a piece of equipment for you that may not be that into the sport that you need the piece of equipment for. Anyhow, I am sure that at some point I will replace it with a nice Elitefts bench; but for now it seems to do just fine with the addition of the plates on the floor.

I will be scaling them back a bit now because the preparatory cycle is winding down (week 5 of 6).

I will then be posting more videos for the competition cycle (skills evaluation) as well as some of the heavier 90%+ singles that come with the demanding training that lies ahead.
