Eric Talmant's Training Log

My name is Eric Talmant and I am sponsored by Elite Fitness Systems and METAL Sport & Wear. http://asp.elitefts.com/qa/training-logs.asp?tid=138&__N=Eric%20Talmant .

I am training for the Cincinnati Power Station Pro/Am where I hope to total 1400+ raw at 165 and go from #2 to #1 on the Powerlifting Watch Overall rankings. I train according to the Sheiko System. I am also the founder and meet director of the Raw Unity Meet/Raw Unity Powerlifting Championships.

I was a WPO competitor in the lightweight division and I have a ??passion for all things nutrition.?? I am a Certified Metabolic Typing instructor http://www.mt-advisors.info/EditIndex.php and live in rural Spring Hill, Florida, north of Tampa.

I have competed in the ADFPA, NASA, AAPF, APF, APA, and the WPO, and currently hold the APF Florida state men??s open squat record of 678 pounds. I am currently ranked 2rd in the 75K class among all raw lifters in the United States.

My best raw lifts to date are 480 pound squat without knee wraps, 290 pound bench press, and 635 pound deadlift.

I hope to spread the word and answer questions about how I train (Sheiko programming) as well as the Raw Unity Championships concept.

I will post links to my log at Elitefts.com and will be happy to answer any questions you may have over there.

FIRST

Eric who…? Lol.

Nice to have you here!!

Awesome – great to have you here!

Welcome to the site Eric! I’ve followed your log (on/off admittedly) for a while, great stuff!

How do you see your total adding up? Do you think you’ll hit all your current PR’s (or better) or are you noticing one really taking off?

I was also curious, what weight do you walk around at?

yay! glad to have you here!

Thank you for your kind words regarding my work over at Elite.

If I remain healthy I should PR all lifts; but powerlifing is a sport and as such is sometimes unpredictable

I don’t make public predictions beforehand, although I will say that my planned 3rd attemps add up to over 1400.

I walk around at 173/174 right now. I always increase caloric intake during a preparatory phase to compensate for the programming demands.

Nice to see you posting here.

Eric,

First off, thanks for posting here. I follow your log at elitefts and you have been very helpful with some questions I sent in over there.

There was recently a thread here where some confusion came up about the training facility in Greece you were using. Here is the thread:

http://www.T-Nation.com/tmagnum/readTopic.do?id=2221129

Could you address some questions that were brought up?

Thanks, I know you’re a busy guy.

I was just wondering if you could give us who are not too familiar with you a brief history of how you got into lifting and on to the shieko programs

There were several “topics” going on with that thread.

The videos were taken at the main sport complex in Chania on the island of Crete. Olympic weightlifters train in that facility but it is not “The Greek Olympic Training Center”. If I mistakenly typed that somewhere (although I do not believe that I did) then I am now setting the record straight. The national team trains to the north in Athens, among other places. There are some very nice, state-of-the art facilities in Athens and there are some that are very much like what you see in the video. I was in Greece when the news broke about their Olympic weightlifting team and coach getting into trouble and resigning. Wow…those discussions were interesting…

As for the comments by Power GnP I have no idea who he is and what he has done in the sport of powerlifting so I really have no comment. He is entitled to his opinions.

As for the comments by Hanley, I just recall him emailing me some time ago and my coach and I helped him for a time with his programming. He is entitled to his opinions as well.

I have officially squatted 480 lbs., benched 290, and deadlifted 635 all raw at 75K.

The absolute best place that you could go to answer your question is here:

Just scroll down until you see “Episode 03: Eric Talmant”. It is an excellent interview in which I share how I got into the sport, how I have come to my present conclusions on training/programming, what I think of the present state of the sport, and of course all things Sheiko.

The questions were submitted by readers and I did not know what I was going to be asked beforehand so the interview is entirely impromptu, non-rehearsed, and candid. This is the way that I wanted it.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the clarification, Eric. I didn’t want to misspeak on your behalf, so that’s why I asked.

I notice you’re a “level 5” in Biotest purchasing. Is this because the powers-that-be want it to appear that you do, in fact, spend a lot of money on Biotest products, or are there some that you genuinely endorse?

I only ask because I know you aren’t a proponent of artificial sugars/flavorings, and they are present in some Biotest products. I also know you use Ultra Life quite a bit.

I know, like anything, this answer would somewhat be dependent on one’s individual MT. Thanks for any clarification.

I must admit that I really have no idea what “Level 5” may mean.

I used to frequent this web site quite often between 2000-2002 so maybe that has something to do with it?

Damn, very cool to see you over here at T-Nation.

I was wondering if you have any plans on lifting in the UPA. I ask because that is the main Fed I lift in and I’ve seen several of the other guys over at elitefts.com lifting in it.

One last question (for now), what is your favorite exercise to strengthen the hips?

Thanks for your time.
