Eric Talmant's Training Log

You should make a call about that. I think I heard you are competing at Nationals, but at the USPF meets that I have done locally they seem to always use the same bar for all 3 lifts.[/quote]

Good point. I will call the meet director, Steve Denison, and make sure. I have just been told by a few guys that have done some of Steve’s meets that he uses the 7.5 foot deadlift bar for the deadlift.

Eric just wondering if you have any thoughts as to why you pull less with the deadlift bar? Most people have an easier time because the lift starts higher since you kind of pull the “slack” out of the bar to start. Do you think it is just because the mechanics are slightly different than what you are used to?

30 June 2009 (Tues A.M.)

  1. Squat: 50% x 3; 60% x 2; 70% x 1; 80% x 1; KNEE WRAPS: 85% x 1 (8)
  2. Wide Grip Bench: 50% x 3; 60% x 2; 70% x 1; 80% x 1; 85% x 1; (8)
  3. Deadlift: 50% x 3; 60% x 2; 70% x 1; 75% x 1; (7)

USPF Nationals on Friday.

I think that is part of it. In addition, I have great starting strength and the ability to break the floor in the deadlift. I actually do that with my legs and minimal back. Even Wade Hooper, in watching me deadlift, was not sure what to make of it. It is probably my mechanics. Anyhow, my strength (breaking the floor) is taken away with the deadlift bar. It takes what seems forever for me to get the weight off the floor. When I pulled 660 in my garage with a Texas power bar, it was a grinder-but I could “feel” the weight every step of the way. For me, the deadlift bar is totally different.

I guess we will see if I get better with it the more I work with it.

Good luck Eric. Hopefully there will be some videos of your lifts.

USPF Nationals: I had my suit straps taken in a total of about an inch on each side 2 days before the meet; and the result was that I bombed with 606 in the squat. It was a rookie mistake and I of course should not have done it. That is all I have to say about that.

Week #28

  2. Wide Grip Bench: 50% x 3; 60% x 2; 70% x 1; 80% x 1; 85% x 1; 90% x 1; 92% x 1; 94% x 1; 96% x 1 x 2 (13)
  3. Reverse green band deadlift: Worked Up to A Max (10)

R.A.W. United Meet August 1st.

Unfortunately, the only video would be of me crashing into the racks!

Eric,
I’ve been lurking and reading your log for a while now. Too bad about the squat suit. Nonetheless, I hope to read more about your Aug 1 meet and the training leading to it. All the best with that!

Nice work that is only 11 pounds from totaling raw elite in the 181’s. And that would be a VERY light 181.

Nice lifting Eric!

And congratulations on getting the ok from the IPF to open up the RUM to international lifters.
