If you see me posting something in my log concerning deadlifts, assume it’s sumo. Anything with snatch grip I’m pulling conventional and it’s always going to be lighter than my working sets.
Ohh that makes sense. Your deadlift might start going up now that you’re cheat deadlifting lol.
I’ve been pulling sumo for a while now though. If it goes up it’s because I’m getting stronger. I wouldn’t call it cheating because sumo or conventional are both challenging pulls to me lol

Bench
smith machine (gasp!)
135x10
185 3x5
225x1 +1 single
I do realize smith machine is considered “cheating” to some folks, and do not care.
Volume set: this was done on regular bench, no smith
155 2x10
Assist:
Lat pulldowns: 115 3x10
Underhand high rows: 55lbs 2x15
Triceps pulldowns: 60lbs AMRAP
Hanging leg raises: 3x15
30 min. Airdyne bike. Bleh.
On a side note, I’ve noticed if I’m benching completely flawlessly, my lats are completely engaged, and I can feel them get a gnarly pump after my set, specifally a 1rm or a 2-3rm. I’m not too fond of how easily distracted I am at commercial gyms, I may need some like side blinders that horses wear or something lol.
Airdyne bike felt good, hips and back are feeling very good as well, can’t complain.
To balance this good decent training session, a rather large and nimble spider decided to spin himself down onto the passenger side seat of my car, and I spent 15 mins freaking out trying to kill it before I stepped foot in the gym, and an additional 20 mins having a full blown panic attack during the entire drive home complete with ever so slight crying, because I’m pretty sure I didn’t kill it.
Spiders tend to not enjoy cold temperatures so I blasted the AC until my windows were covered in condensation, and it really didn’t help that I took pre-workout, because it intensified my anxiety 100x over. I think I may have to go see someone about this. I don’t know.
I’ve been thinking about this, and I kind of what to draw comparisons:
Box squats, tend to carry over to my low-bar back squat the most, they ever so slightly carry over to deadlift, but it’s mostly to do with my foot placement, hips, and glutes, but my back and upper body rarely respond to them in terms of carryover to my sumo deadlift.
The most response I get, or carryover comes from rack pulls, either conventional or sumo, it still carries over fairly well.
This is what makes me think my upper body and my back just need to be strengthened over a long period of time, but I noticed my legs have no problem getting the bar up, but I’ve caught myself virtually stuck once it was time to keep moving the energy up through my back and further locking out. The best way I can describe it is like a celery stalk. You’ve got the strong lower half that’s up, and fairly straight, then the wilty top that kind of hangs over. So I chalk it up to just needing to get stronger.
Deficits have some carryover, but at a particular height it’ll start to feel like I’m still pulling from the floor originally. I guess it’s that area maybe 1-5 inches above the knee that yields better carryover for myself.
You think that can be grouped with weaker lats too? I’m still struggling to completely pin point it, though.
Rows carryover to anything concerning bench, the most, but they do help me to be more conscious of my arms, and chest concerning pulling.
New puppy. My heartless brother was just going to drop her off somewhere in our neighborhood because his new girlfriend didn’t know what to do with her.
She’s very very sweet, and somewhat skiddish.
are you actually planning to, or do you already, compete in powerlifting?
Because if not, then may I suggest fuck deadlifts?

but I mean if you straight up cant do them safely/comfortably etc then yea, fk em…i guess.
I recommend Trap Deads as a replacement or substitute…but use the handles level with a normal bar not the high handles.
Yeah I do sometime next year. At first I was going to do it this year, but I couldn’t find a steady rhythm with work and school, but I don’t plan on working next year, or at least for the first half of the year, so I can make some time to peak and compete. I probably could’ve competed earlier in my lifting career, but I just felt like I wasn’t ready. Granted I’m never ready for anything lol
Although after a while I’ll most likely favor a new pulling technique and keep deadlifts on the back burner. At least heavy deadlifts.
I can, but on the days where my back flares up it’s usually hours after I’ve lifted, and when I’m lying still in bed.
Yes, sounds like weak lats and also possibly that you aren’t using them properly. Could also be general lagging in upper/middle back. Paused front squats might do the trick for that latter. They’re also pretty back friendly.
Pup looks gorgeous, like a charcoal Simba.
I’ll be sure to experiment with that some more.
Yea she’s a sweetheart. She’s extremely full of energy, and even my older dogs aren’t that old, and they already want to wind down and go to bed, but she’s still messing with everyone.
So far our oldest cat has reminded her of who is boss around the house, followed by the all black short dog I have who gives her a few nips to back off.
My spotted dog and my boy cat seem to just be okay with being pushed around. Occasionally they will get her to back off, other instances I’ve been having to intervene.
And no one messes with our extremely old Yorkie, because she’s extremely old, and also because she doesn’t hesitate to nip just enough to get the point across, although our boy cat occasionally still tests her.
She’s one of those dogs(the pit), that needs some sort of consistent, semi-stern reminders. Aside from what nature does concerning my other pets, she’s a bit testy at the moment. But other than that she’s a very good girl.
I know other people say to teach them differently(she’s mainly a pitbull, with something else I can’t quite put my finger on), but I think it does her good to be surrounded by two other cats and three other dogs. To extent I like to think that animals can teach other animals in a more speacialized way than humans ever could.

“Body seems unclear, is it a complete sentence ?”
She’s very very sweet.
And tell that thing, it IS a complete sentence. We don’t care about grammar rounds here lol.
LOG # 220
10 mile walk.
A very long one, and for good reason.
Struggling really really hard with losing weight. Not physically. Physically the weight comes off accordingly, but mentally it just gives me non-stop flashbacks of my past eating habits. And it’s not just occasionally, it’s slowly picked up frequency enough to be nearly constant throughout the day.
I’m not one to talk about it amongst the people I associate with in person, because most therapists and psychs can barely understand, let alone average people.
It’s making me really angry. Like REALLY angry.
I suppose this is part of recovery. And I don’t like it.
Head held high planet cybertron, the flashbacks and anger are shitty, but you are crushing your goals and have achieved so much. Dont let it get to you.
Thanks Duke. It’s rather difficult right now because I’ve only been recovered for about as long as I have been lifting. Roughly 2 years and a number of months.
Compared to 14 years of not being recovered I haven’t even scratched the surface on sorting the kinks out.
I’ve made an effort to be rather talkative on here, because it’s online and you guys are more supportive than most people. But in real life I’m rather quiet and a bit shut off, and this is honestly my first time going about nutrition in a healthy manner. Let alone talking to people about it.
I notice the difference in teaching as well. Simba is half pittie, half amstaff and possibly some bull arab as well. She’s very sweet natured but headstrong AF and not one to take hints. She needs very, very firm reminders to get a point across. While a tap on the nose might be a big deal for a lab or terrier and make them know they’re in trouble, for Simba that’s it’s taken as a very gentle reminder. Luckily she reads tone of voice well, which is usually enough from me to get her to comply.
So far a stern voice sort of works, but a few pops on the butt works the best, same with our other 2 dogs. She will test you about 3 good times though lol.
